As an engineer I wouldn't do it unless a you want to work in university or specialise in that area in industry. But industry will limit you to that area frequently.
Such a great video. Lots of good information. I am actually in the process of applying to several Ph.D programs in Computer Science, with an emphasis on Applied Computation and Mathematics. Because I actually want to do research (specifically quantum computing and its real-world applications in cryptography, finance, and computing), a Ph.D is almost a necessity. The difficult part for me is the idea of giving up a significant salary to pursue my dream and ambition. Keep up the great work.
Did you take a decision? I am also facing a similar situation, to choose between a PhD and a graduate job. I have great interest in both and confused what to do.
a PhD is almost equivalent to having a felony in my opinion. It does not matter what you study because you will alway look overqualified in the job market. For Professorships, good luck making 50k per year for many years of post doc with no guarantee. If you want to always be placed on a pedestal and have zero room for looking dumb at all, then get a PhD. lol
how to determine the long term goal? you said you will link the course below, but I don't see it in detail :-/ can you share the link of that course you just told about (at 3:22 seconds of video) ?
We no longer have that course, but there are some great books on goal setting by Brian Tracy and James Clear, check them out! Also check this out >> engineeringmanagementinstitute.org/goal-setting-think-big-be-mindful/
It would likely depend on the specific company you would want to work at. I would recommend looking at people's LinkedIn profiles within this domain and see what kind of credentials they have.
In order to get a PHD in engineering you would probably need some kind of foundational degree. The best would be to reach out to PHD programs in engineering and ask them what the pre-requisites are.
what if someone don't want to go for academia type job and he/she want to pursue a PhD degree in Engineering Management will this PhD help him in industry ?plz guide ..thanks
