Thank you sir, you kept me from tearing it apart searching for problems. After draining the gas she still didn’t want to go but the starting fluid gave her the right motivation.
Thanks for the video Matt. People are sooo negative these days. Everyone seems to be a pro, watch 3 seconds of the video and pretend they know everything. I bet a lot of people found value in your vid. Cheers from AB, Canada
Thanks. I appreciate your input. I hope I didn't give the impression that I know everything. I am just a novice like all the people who watch this. I think that perspective is helpful.
Wayyyy too much starting fluid, if you must use it to see if motor fires up do one to two sprays in the carb and that’s it, more will only cause problems and not help the situation. Use premix gas to spray in a bottle or stop and try something else: in this case i would have taken the carb out and give it a good clean including the tiny little jets with a small clean wire and then carb cleaner spray or low air pressure to blow, then I would make sure idle adjustment in carb or 1 1/2 turn out from tight position (note: one 180 degree turn is a half turn, so twice of that makes a whole turn) but since your motor was sneezing sounds like it was too far turned inward, if it was smoking a lot and shaking a lot it would have been too far turned outward.
I same motor you need to get you a microphone or put your cowling on but what I can see is good the vocals sux when running the motor over all I would like to see more with out motor running
I normally do a carburetor rebuild due to old gas or if not been used in six months and the float needs to be correct or fuel won’t allow fuel when the bowl drops Yeap mechanic by trade as well as automotive and aviation
That amount of starter fluid is enough to ruin that engine. If you ever need to use it, it should only be once to check to see if the engine is getting fuel. Starter fluid is dry and destroys all engine including cars & trucks.
My 9.8 mercury has spark to both cylinders but will not crank. I have sprayed just a little starter fluid in each cylinder just to see if it would crank but it will not crank at all. Any ideas 💡 on what it could be?
I did figure it out. Sorry, I didn't include that in the video. By adjusting the low-speed idle adjustment on the carb, that fixed the sneezing problem.
I have the same motor and mine would not idle but I could rev it up and it run fine but I started it and revved it up and it cut off I tried starting it again and would not start I sprayed starting fluid in it and it still won’t start it has spark but it won’t fire at all now please give me a tip I could really use one what would you try next if starting fluid don’t work and it has spark
I wish you were there! You might want to start with a brand new spark plug. Also make sure that you have brand new gas, and that the old gas has been drained out of the carburetor.
Has anyone had the same problem from using too much oil or maybe the Rong 2 stroke oil? I used the other oil not marine 2 stroke and it doesn’t wanna start now I’ve used it before I’m wondering if I put to much or both rong oil and too much 😂
@@Scristal2007 Hmmm. I had a similar problem with a lawnmower a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had cleaned the carb pretty well. Turns out that one of the very small holes in the bolt holding on the bowl of the carb was clogged. I ran a very small wire through it and it worked like a champ. The other thing might be to make sure that the carb is roughly adjusted properly. Usually you want to screw both the idle adjustment and the air/fuel screws all the way in, then back them out 1.5 turns. I am sure there is a good video on how to do it for your motor. That would be worth investigating.
Working on an old Merc currently and I'm sort of at the same point- couldn't get it to start and when I had it running in the past it wasn't great at low idle. Starter fluid has worked but I haven't used it as much as you have here- started taking the carburetor apart and now I have some broken gaskets to replace haha. Eventually I plan to run some SeaFoam through the motor- could possibly help with your sneezing problem? (according to some other videos I have watched at least)
@@tylermoses6132 Could be a lot of things. Try a different gas tank if you can. Try adjusting the carb - generally, you turn the needles in all the way, then back them out one and a half turns. Could be the fuel pump. Could even be timing at higher RPMs. Keep checking YT. I bet you will get more help.
help, I suspected the pulse pump,,,put a new one,,,,new fuel inlet and outlet hoses, 2 seals...everything becomes hard,,,works for 3 sec....turns off...again manually I pump it up...hard...runs for 3 seconds...carburetor repaired. intake...etc...ultrasound of the bowl...if it works...I remove the supply hose to the carburetor...no fuel...no pulse...johnson 1969 ..6hp...2T...
Omg never use starter to start any engines starter has no oil in it, thus no lubrication for 2stroke engines, I also read that starter fluid cleans the natural film of oil off cylinder walls again no good, better to use gas that’s naturally mixed with oil
