This time on the AutoEdits Jeep Wrangler series... I add the ARB JACK to my recovery gear and show why it's replacing the old Hi-Lift. Not only is the ARB Hydraulic high lift JACK safer and easier to use than the mechanical style jack... it also offers a unique base that enables you to use it to break the bead of a tire if you need to and I demonstrate by doing just that!
Here's some info straight from the web page...
Adding a new dimension to traditional techniques, the long-travel ARB JACK is backed by the unique power of hydraulic technology. Kicking into action when even the lightest force is applied to the handle, the hydraulics will smoothly jack the vehicle up at up to 1/2″ increments with each downward maneuver. While in action, a black rubber body bumper shields the vehicle from risk of damage during the recovery.
The easy-to-access red lowering lever ensures lowering the vehicle is achieved swiftly and safely thanks to the two-stage descent feature and safety stop. Empowering the user with dual lowering speeds, with a press of the lever, a slow or rapid descent can be achieved.
Built tough to take on the grunt of the most challenging recovery missions, alike to the heavy-duty Old Man Emu BP-51 shock absorbers, JACK’s body is made from aircraft grade 6061 T6 aluminum for maximum strength. Running up the body, 9 hooking points offer the adjustable hook a wide range of lifting heights; capable of lifting up to a total of 4,400lbs.
When under load, an internal blow-off valve provides overload protection to safeguard both JACK and most importantly, the user, from the dangerous consequence of the vehicle suddenly dropping if the working limit is exceeded.

I saw one in person this past spring at the local off road Jeep show. ARB was there showing their stuff, and it is impressive, I was ready to buy one until I asked about the price. Myself and about 2 or 3 people standing around it jumped back a few inches in shock at the nearly $1000 for the jack. So, my Hi-LIft remains bolted to the rear bumper on my TJ... I'm sure the Chinese will knock-off the ARB, and sell it for $150 by this time next year... lol

@ridermak4111
@ridermak4111 5 лет назад
The original was called a farm jack. A friend has one that was his great-grandfathers and still hasn’t developed an oil leak.😜 Much greater capacity, much lower price, a long list of accessories to do many jobs, easily rebuilt with new wear parts. Either one can put you in the hospital when used without common sense and training/education. But I gotta hand it to ARB (a great company) for the marketing gimmick factor. I’m sure they are going to make a bunch of $$$$$ from it. My wallet is too thin to replace a good tool that has proven itself for generations.

Yep I agree, The Hi-Lift has a 114 Year Proven History from peace time to field use in the current Wars, I would not buy this piece of junk if they were 10c each, 800 bucks I think someone has more money than sense, I can buy at leased 6 Hi-lift extreme Jacks for that kind on money,

Great video. I purchased an ARB jack a couple of months ago and love it. I'm looking for a different way to store it and was hoping they'd had a bracket where it can be stored against the rollbar somehow. Maybe in the future there will be something available. The only negative for me (so far) is lowering the jack back to storage position - takes quite a bit of effort. But I'll take that any day over the Hi-Lift jack.

The bead breaking is a head scratcher here... You can break a bead with a farm jack, that's nothing new. I watched that done on a field repair about 30 years ago wheeling with my dad and his buddies. Getting what you pay for and getting screwed for what you pay are two different things(curious if their R&D took the brunt of this cost need or if they had to pay for the patent/design). Disclaimer, I'm an ARB supporter and product owner, have their single air compressor, their OME suspension on my Tacoma, and several other products and I don't think I'd pay for this if it were half that price. Unfortunate, cool product, doesn't warrant the cost, still a cool video and I'll always be a supporter.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 4 года назад
This is the kind of comment I totally respect! I get that the product doesn’t make sense to you at the price but going off the deep end like many others is flat out crazy to me. This is just a dumb old you tube channel with a dumb old dude with questionable taste in some products... take some and leave some... but being productive in the criticisms helps everyone! Thanks!

True on both points.
@mandingo9471
@mandingo9471 Год назад
A hi lift jack will kill ya if used improperly. Even the most seasoned users don’t fully trust em. Whenever you have to pull out a hi lift more than likely the situation is dire which usually means high stress. High stress means folks can’t think as clearly which means more room for mistakes. An arb jack is cheaper than a trip to the hospital and/or cheaper than your family paying for funeral costs.

@@AutoEdits the only concern with the arb is if an airline or the airbag blows then your vehicle falls. With the hilift atleast it’s mechanical and won’t fall. A tip with the hilift is to push down from the end so your head isn’t in the path of the swing arm.

I've read and heard this jack has to be stored vertically. I'm guessing that is due to the hydraulic fluid that it uses. Have you had any issues with it leaking when storing it horizontally?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 2 года назад
I have heard that as well... I store mine standing up in the shed when not in use but have laid it down in the back of the Jeep for long trips with no problems. My buddy was told that when his jack leaked it was a faulty seal and they replaced the jack under warrantee... no leaks since on the new jack.

Question: The provided instructions say not to store the ARB Jack on its side or it will leak. Yet they are all shipped on their side. They also are stored on their side at the distribution warehouse and in delivery trucks. Mine arrived covered in oil because of these reasons. Further, how are we to store the Jack outside the vehicle if it comes in a storage bag that is without mounting hardware and which causes one to assume that the Jack is to be stored IN the vehicle, where it almost always can only be stored on its side, because of its height? Why isnt there mounting hardware specific to the Jack, designed/sold by ARB that is 1) meant to be mounted on exterior and that, 2) incorporates theft resistant features (e.g. lockable hardware)? I'm in the states. These are very popular here but that is changing quickly. I just returned from the Overland Expo and my question above, includes the 2 most heard complaints about this product and are the reasons why so many are now turning to other products. The number 1 complaint however: storing this on its side should not allow oil to leak/this is a very poor design feature! I love ARB but this is money I'm now seeing that was poorly spent, due to an incomplete design and a lack of mounting options, which ARB should've addressed prior to releasing this product. ARB, please address these 3 things, or I fear ARB will see this products interest lose steam. ARB is a solid company but the mark was missed on this one big time.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 2 года назад
I think that was an early production problem and has been solved with the Jacks. Good to use and store however needed. I did ask about an exterior mounting option and they thought since the Jacks are so expensive... no one would want to mount them on the exterior of their vehicles.
@JesusWSalazar
@JesusWSalazar 2 года назад
@@AutoEdits Appreciate the response. However, mine is a recent production, manufactured within last year and still arrived covered in oil. I'm not so sure the leak issue is resolved. But let's hope. As for outside storage: at overland expo people kept inquiring about a mount at the ARB booth. Even the ARB rep at the event couldn't understand why there wasn't a mount. But again, let's hope.
