Adjust the hydraulic dumps to drop slightly faster than the speed the car raises. When lifting the car, ONLY TAP the switch. Never hold it down when going up. You can hold it down when dumping only.
Regarding these gentlemen's expressed interest in hopping this vehicle, this is solid advice. I would not discourage experimentation, although with experience, you will inevitability reach the same conclusion.
Dogshitsniffer! No you can hold the switch down. The solenoids are made for 12v but can handle more momentarily thus the reason momentary switches are used in hydraulic systems. Keep holding and you will learn the hard way what “Runaway pump” means. While your trying to put out motors that have now caught fire.
Broo DONT HOLD THE SWITCHES!!! Tap them when going up!!! And u need a quick disconnect on the batteries Incase the pump gets stuck so it don’t blow and catch fire if the switch sticks!!!!! Please listen!!
What an interesting revival of a classic build, I was too young to drive during the heyday of the lowriding days but this project has me feeling the need to build something with hydros to experience a different car culture I missed out on. Keep the content coming!
Having switches is fun, but it gets costly when having to do suspension repairs very frequent, go to long and other things like brake parts start to wear out faster. Buddy told me, you only live once, the following day, I took my pickup to the hydraulic shop.
You two need to have your own TV show.. Great chemistry Great knowledge base from both of you... MotorTrend Channel needs to sign you two up.. Great show.. I will always watch the projects.. Thanks
Thank you for saving such an iconic car from my childhood. I forgot about this car up until I came across it’s partner. There’s a green Honda in Spokane Washington that’s rotting away and use to have a picture side by side with this car both sat real good when dumped
This is great I grew up around cars like this I say just clean it get every speck of dirt off it and re-clear the paint and bang like a time capsule I want this car bad !!! I have a candy orange1995 suburban 2003 front end bar gold grill and gold and Crome 22” deep knockoffs keep up the real projects that real people can do !!!!
This is such a fun car. Glad the L44 fired up once the wiring problems got sorted. It seems very healthy (despite not running on all cylinders due to the plugged injectors).
Ronald Finger is completing an almost total restoration of his farm found fiero. He's an engineer and the project he has been ongoing for a few years. I'll bet he has a lot of insight with the workings of the car.
I say add another pump if you want to get off the ground a bit, or more solenoids. also don’t hold the switch, solenoids could possibly get stuck and catch fire, quick disconnect will work for you guys !
It’s my first time seeing your videos,Love what you doing resurrecting this old Lowrider. back then they were limited on what they were able to do with hydraulics for that type vehicle. There’s some good advice that I seen on this thread about making your car go hop and all of it is great advice. I would also put a new hydraulic pump piston pump in there. And if you put taller cylinders in the back you would be able to do a rear three wheel.I look forward to seeing some more of your builds
I don't know why. But, when you were showing the front while doing the hydraulics. All I could think about is Lighting McQueen tilting to the left and yelling " KECHOW"!!!
I had 2 fiero's, a 88GT fastback and an 86 GT just like this one. Minus switches and system and goddy paint... They was super fun to drive and with the rear engine they jumped perfectly flat landing equally on all 4 almost every time...
@@houseofno Sue me I had my years mixed up! I was in high school and got my first one is my first car it 94 which pit promptly overheated and died! The Fastback I got next in late 95 and it actually lasted through my senior year. But you're right I'm making it up cuz they are over so Out Of Reach for most people and such a manly car to claim, especially when you are 6ft 2in 240 lb and hardly fit into the sumbitch anyway. And believe it or not my sister also had one. If I was going to try to BS about something it damn sure wouldn't be a Pontiac Fiero goofy bastard
All I got to say is you guys are trying to hop the car but the hydraulic system is not set up to hop set up to move you would have to change the pump setup 2A double pump set up and you have to hold the switch is down so it's open the valve down and tap the switch up but always hold the valve down and you get a bounce type motion
I remember buying the issue this fiero appeared in. It was a pretty insane car for the times. We used to work on my friends fiero gt which came with a v6. The thing had massive problems kicking the ass end out whenever you tried to accelerate hard because they were so light in weight. Lol
If you can find an old obd1 connector you can wire those two jumpers in the whip. I made one years ago. Haven’t used in a decade, but it’s in my box in case
It probably has a #5 pump head. To get it to snatch the tires off the ground when you hit the switch to lift the car it would need a #6 or #8 pump head this will supply more fluid faster, and 48 volts should be adequate. I would have the disconnect for the ground very easily accessible just in case a solenoid sticks and the pump keeps running. This brings back great memories and I remember when it was in lowrider magazine and at the lowrider super show.
You're going to have to turn the dumps wide open in order to get it to Hop if it will at all... Hoppers have at least one pump for the front and one pump for the back. If you really want to get it going to take for pumps 1 per corner
That is a cool car man that was in Lowrider magazine I’m a fan of low rider magazine I would go to car shows when I was a little boy and me and my family lived in Los Angeles and they would do car shows on the strip of the street is really cool I remember they would jump cars and stuff my dad had me on his shoulders when I was a kid big fan of this low rider man doing an awesome job please do more built like this
YESS...SHE'S ALIVE!!!! Me n my son were as happy as you guys where when it turned over. Ever decide to let go of the license plate n frame..Get at me Please...Great Episode
I have a majestic amp powering a pioneer sub in my work truck. The combo has been with me since highschool (roughly 2000). Still works but yeah makes weird noises when at low volume and the engine is at idle or off. I never notice is going down the road. Amazing it still works. Mileage wise I've put over 290K.
It's a bit slow but it takes me back. You need marine batteries. I ran 8 marine with a welding quick disconnect. I remember when it caught on fire in Seattle, so crazy. Wait tell you blow every seal. Also for bouncing you need specific springs. Please be careful driving and hitting switches, you will end up in oncoming traffic QUICK.
I would get some airbrushing done that makes it look like the metal has torn away to reveal something like fantasy mechanics underneath it. Use these sections to fix the peeling paint areas. Thus keeping as much as the original paint as possible.
In order for the hydraulic pump to not get hot or avoid the smoking you need 1000cca battery’s not regular car battery’s you need semi truck battery’s or golf cart battery’s it will ultimately stop you from burning out the motor or your solenoids and or stripping the gears 👍
Hopefully there will be more opportunities for collaboration with JR in the future, this is a weird car but I always enjoy watching collabs with some of my favorite RU-vidrs :)
I think to read the codes, you have to get the 1...2 flash three times. then it will do any trouble codes 3 time each and then end with the 1...2 flash 3 time again. Although there are probably no stored codes since the ECU did not have power, you could read any newly created codes after it runs.
I have a older scan tool that has both obd2 and 1 with all of the adapters for the early American cars. I used it years ago to check mom's 93 Tuarus and it worked and had some special Ford only test modes. My Autel Maxicheck pro can do obd1 as well but they don't include the adapter plugs you need to run it. I think the ones for the other tool will work but haven't been brave enough to try it so I don't accidentally kill it if it wired differently. If it's kicking back the distributer or plug wires might be way off. Most old Mopars have a slot so it's either on or 180 out.
Awesome guys 😊 I already watch both your channels and love what you get up to. So great that you both got it all working. A fun little project for sure 👍
Have you thought about doing some math and figuring out a self resetting breaker in place of the fusible link? Or you could put in a maxi-fuse. The way they used to do it was a section of wire one gage smaller. Interested to see what you go with. Best of luck, will be watching
