Thank you Matt. I run a couple times a week and do circuit training with my running club. However, I have found your calisthenic based strength training to be invaluable. I'm 58 but feel I am fitter and stronger than 20/30 years ago. I am able to work out everyday. I listen to my body and if it tells me to take a rest day, then that's what I do. Thanks for your help. Greetings from England.

Read Steve Maxwell's 'Dear over 45 trainee' article. It's all about maintenance. At 57 I'm finding that even maintenance is a struggle in some areas. It is liberating to accept your age and the limitations it can bring, we can still train and enjoy it though. Keep what we have for as long as possible.

Hit training, Mentzer heavy duty training is pretty good. Mostly one extended set per movement. Focus on perfect form and absolute failure. Squats to easy to get shitty form, maybe split squats better option. Romanian deadlifts better than conventional

Sounds like do what you want when you want making sure there's some stimulation and progression followed by recovery and adaption. Question is variety each work out a bad thing, i.e. different push/pull/squat exercise each workout ? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Matt and thanks for all you do.

changing things up is fun, just so long as you're not changing things on the fundamental level. Doing a 5x5 with dips, or DB press, or weighted push-ups are all pretty much the same thing, so you can change those things out and still stay on track. But if you do push-ups one workout, and then decide you're going on a hike, and then Yoga the third wokrout then you're changing what you're doing on a fundamental level and kind o just doing random stuff.

@@RedDeltaProject thanks Matt, no I change things within the same movement, so push ups one day, dips next and close grip push ups next then repeat the cycle. Same with pull, legs and abs. Regards Steve.
