So someone told me after getting your braces off you still cannot eat anything hard or bitting things off bone such as chicken wings or steak your teeth can move back. Is this true or are they just making things up? (Also note, they might not have wear retainer every night)
What about dealing with anxiety about getting the molds done after you get braces off? How would you handle that? I have braces for my bite & the bonus is it’s straightened my teeth. My jaw is misaligned cause of how bad my bite is, so I don’t expect to get the braces off anytime soon (which I’m okay with). But I first started out with Clear correct and when I got molds done, I puked in the last 10 seconds because I gagged so much. I think it’s given me like ptsd from it haha. And it’s made my dentist anxiety worse. So going to the dentist every 4-6 weeks, is challenging! Thankfully my dentist knows that I get anxious and my jaw aches majority of the time from being in a horrible position. She’s very patient and has been doing the process slow with me. But I have metal braces now, and I’m already stressing about having to get molds done at the end.. mainly because my gag reflex is veeeery sensitive.
How did your dr deal with that at the end of your braces journey? I'm that sensitive to the molding material, and genuinely have trauma from it as a kid, and needing to get that done after braces is one of the reasons I put off getting them for so long
@@HmmmmmLemmeThinkNo The place where I was going to ended up getting that machine, where it gets an electronic mold of your teeth. Which made it a lot easier!
@@Sim_one1 oh that's awesome! I'm p sure mine doesn't have that - there's a scanning thing, but that's only for the $900 retainers that aren't included in the braces price. The Hawley retainers are, so. x.x Glad that you didn't have to deal with the molding though!
@@HmmmmmLemmeThinkNo That sounds tough. I got my clear retainers at the end, by getting that scanning thing done that made the electronic mold. Hopefully you get to experience that too when the time comes!
After you get your braces off you’re not the customer usually because your parents made you do it and you have no legal recourse if your doctor sucks. Unless you’re independently wealthy already and then you probably weren’t worried about a shitty DDS. In this way orthodontist invite violence to their practices; What’s one supposed to do if they can’t warn the general public about what these people do after they have lawyers formulate a cease-and-desist for you trying to tell your story and giving them an accurate review how you were treated.
@@belaabam193 it doesn’t exactly hurt!! my braces were the ones that they just pop off so at most it was just a bit uncomfortable at points, and then of course they need to remove all the glue and stuff so by the end of it your mouth’s gonna be _so_ dry but altogether it’s a pretty simple process, not painful at all
@lotuseyed it’s literally such a good feeling. I remember getting a smoothie right after getting them off and it was amazing lol. The only thing I will say is that your teeth will look super big at first but you’ll get used to it :)
Oml same Ive eaten so much im not supposed to eat, and I definetly havent brushed as well as I were supposed to Im getting Them off tomorrow and Im freaking out Update: it went rly well and My teeth are looking very Good No White spots or anything (i was rly scared to get White spots)
@@jenc9956 i got mine about 4-5 months ago and it feels pretty normal other than the fact that you wear a mask to your appointment until they put them on. i have an appointment tomorrow actually to get it tightened again and tightens feel pretty normal to at my orthodontist office. Hope this helps or reassures you :)
@@jenc9956 I got mine in October 2019 and January 2020, so I wouldn't know what it's like to have them put on during a pandemic, but I do know what it's like to have monthly appointments during a pandemic. The only thing that's changed is that I have to wear a mask in the waiting room.
@@Daniela-qs2qf I just got home from my appointment and I am very happy with them! Just not looking forward to wearing my retainers all day every day for the next year 😂 but I know that it’ll be worth it
I got them off today after 1.5 years aprox. It's so crazy. My teeth feel empty. And yeah, my gums bled a bit. Shoutout to everyone who has braces and also to them who are getting them off. Good luck guys..🤙😀
Braces are off this morning and I feel like myself again. I had them for 15 months. If you're reading this, please stay diligent on your cleaning (I went to the dentist 2-3x per year) with a waterpik and brushing after every meal. I also use floss daily or every other day.
@@UnicornDollim getting mine off next month! if no one responds you’ll have to wait a month for me to answer that😂 but it stutter a lot with braces and i also have a lisp, everyone says its cute but its so annoying i feel like no one can understand me😢
Dr. Greg is my ortho- he doesn’t go in debt either at the appointment just the basic and the rest telling the assistant what he wants adjusted - then he checks it’s good and I’m out. That’s why I come on here too.
It might depend on what stage you’re in. If your in the final stage (where you have the thickest wire) the ortho bends the wire to “fine-tune” individual teeth. A tooth might need to go up a bit or shift down a little. The hygienist told me it’s the “artsy” part of the process where they get the teeth in place just right. Also, when the got the second thickest wire put on, that when my ortho told me to start chewing gum (sugar free kind). She said it helps your teeth shift sooo much faster and could speed up the process by weeks or even months for some. However, I would ask before doing so. Not all orthos think the same. Also, never be afraid to ask your ortho or the hygienist questions. Normally they are always happy to explain things.
This video inspired me to be more careful with my braces so that I could experience these things sooner eventhough I only have my braces on for just a month haha
I went to the orthodontist the other day and he said that I can probably get my braces off late January to early February! I'm so ready to get them off, I had them for almost two years
@@fauzanewshd2576 Lucky! I'll probably go with a clear one since it isn't too noticeable. The lingual ones are nice that you don't take them in or out but flossing will still be a pain
Fun fact! If you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant and have braces (like me but I'm 23 and have had then for 17 months) gingivitis is hard to avoid with braces. Your gums swell during pregnancy. I brush 3 times times day and flesh and use anti gingivitis listening and still have it.
i got my braces at a really awkward time in my life, i went through a major depressive episode and i couldn't brush my teeth for around 2 months, and i'm getting my braces off so soon and i'm never been more scared, i've always been bullied for every little thing about my teeth, my overbite, or the colour, literally everything and since i got my braces, i hadn't had anyone mention anything about my teeth welp. wish me luck 😀👍
i’m on the same boat. i’m getting my braces off this week and i’ve barely brushed my teeth in the past year. i’m absolutely terrified. best of luck to you
Me too I didn't know this was a thing I got depression didn't brush my teeth and now how gum disease my braces are off now and I have no stains and I love them best of luck to you , do things to love yourself not for others, people can be so cruise
Hello Doctor! I just had my braces off two days ago. I did everything you just said in this video: I brushed and flossed religiously, I used a water pick and I used Sensodyne throughout my braces journey, but the removal of my braces was still a bad experience. It was very painful. Now my gum is super swollen, painful and sensitive. I actually have a hard time to chew crunchy food because it hurts so much. I hope it will go away soon, so I can fully enjoy my new smile, which I love by the way.
@@NOT444U I try flossing everytime i eat but I'll do it aleast twice a day🤔. Till i get a job then i just use a water flosser. But even if u floss doesn't stop u from getting swallen gums. The only thing that was sensitive was my teeth 😬. So use the toothpaste for sensitive paste. But i guess u have to use from the beginning. I've been using it for a month and i see no difference😭😭😭
They tell you to not eat certain foods when u get braces but it’s all bs, I ate every they said not to eat and nothing happened. Except for hard a$$ candies .
I have gone through 7 years of Otho work and today I am getting my braces off, witch is my very last step so thanks so much for all the tips, super excited!
I have a question do they shave your teeth after you get your brackets off cause I’ve heard horror story’s and they really scared me but some people said it’s just cause they went to a normal dentist and not a orthodontist so I’m really scared cause I get mine off in a few months HELP!!
Update: I still have them on LOL. My ortho decided to put brackets on my teeth in the back (I thought were my wisdom teeth, apparently they're not.) But I have about 2 months left if everything goes smoothly! This video is still very helpful.
I get my braces off in less than 3 weeks and needed to know this info thank you! my hygiene was horrible during my braces journey just because its so much more difficult so hopefully everything goes well!
I'm getting my braces off very soon! I'm SO excited! I'm getting them off early. I've had them for a year and a half. I was originally supposed to have them on for 2 years.
its exacty 4pm rn and i have a dentist appointment at 5 for getting my braces off!! wish me luck!! i will update after i get them off!! *Edit* : O.M.G guys!! It went really well!! I was a bit scared for the polishing part but it was painless!!! Oh but guys pls take gud care of your teeth while in braces I have 2 cavities!!😭😭 oh and the part where they take your teeth impressions I hated it!! It was soooo uncomfortable 😩😩😩
@@tearsofawaterfall2656 I actually still had my milk teeth (canines and premolars). He took x-rays and the secondary premolars had not developed. But my adult canines were there and not coming down. Basically, he pulled them out, and it took a year for the adult canines to be pulled down after he attached a chain to them. Now another year (maybe) to straighten everything out. I should come back to this message when I do get them out!
@@sharvarideo925 actually I know that they do exert different amount of pressure , I am wearing braces and I have completed 2 years , but I am really curious about why do they use those different sizes , what's the main purpose?
I just got mine off 4 hours ago.. my gums feel really sensitive and I can feel them everytime my lips move. It’s really easy to do things with your mouth, and your teeth won’t feel like your own at first. Your teeth will also look really big to you.
My teeth began to create spaces in between certain teeth even though I wore my retainers 10+ hours a day. My ortho couldn't understand why it was happening since I had crowding beforehand. My midline is slightly off too since getting my braces off a year ago. Can you tell me why these things are happening? I am no longer happy with my results and wondering what suggestions you had for me. Should I go back into braces?
Hey Dr. A, I'm a new subscriber, I got braces on just over 2 month ago and I've been loving the videos going in depth about treatment. Part of my treatment is something similar to a mouth guard that vibrates that I'm supposed to bite down on for 5 minutes 2 times a day, they called it a V-Pro. Its supposed to be able to reduce treatment time by 30-40%, would you be able to cover the science behind something like this?
