Thank you for these tutorials. I have always been saying ,there is a market for "reggae" mixing and mastering tutorials. Very very few people cover this genre .
Curtis Charles you're welcome Curtis. Definitely right about not a lot of good reggae resources out there! I'll try my best to keep the content coming. Cheers 🍻
@@DMKahn you are 100% correct. A lot of persons trying to provide content doesn't understand the fundamentals and you are one of the very few that provide the real deal. continue to provide material from mixing, right down to mastering if you do mastering . once again thanks for your time and effort
Tu as trop raison, pour moi ce sont de musique qui devrait être donne aux enfants,le cannabis en moins bien sûr,car si tu sais jouer du reagge tu peux jouer ce que tu veux,
Gotta tell ya, I’m Jamaican by birth- now living in Canada- and as a singer/songwriter, never figured out how to get these great authentic piano sounds; but props to you! Now that I record from my little home studio, I needed this. This is a top-notch tutorial,
Heavy riddum with heavy spliffing that's the reggae way, that's where those nuances come through, with a little help from "blue dream", just messin, but it does help but not necessary for today's poppy reggae sound.
NAIYAH YELREB blessings. The way I get such tight drum sounds is because I recorded, cut, and processed my very own drum samples. Hit me up with an email to thekahn@gmail.com if you're interested in listening to the samples.. they are available for purchase via PayPal. Cheers, Kahn
Apart from the fact that you have a damn good Marcus Miller signature bass, what’s your signal chain? That bass is mild and creamy. Are you using flat wounds?
I AGREE WITH YOU I WATCH A LOT RU-vid.........................i need to start making some beat am a percussion guy......am learning ezdrummer 3 ..with the reggae extension vst ... i like it it sound nice
why not use inversions on the chords? when i learned they talked about voice leadinings and how the d chord allready has an a at the fifth so you should keep that the same and only move the fingers on d and f to c and e to change to an a chord. is this not reggae style? should i move the whole hand (and whole chord shape)
Ed Keenan I'm really glad someone picked up on that! I was actually considering playing that way when I was considering what to shoot this video on. I went with the easy way as shown (easier to see for the watcher, actually harder because you have to move your arms more lol). But to answer your question, yes of course you can use the inversions!!
@@DMKahn thanks man i was wondering because i always try to voice lead the piano chords and i thought sience you werent doing that, maybe thats why my record dosent sound as 'reggae' as id like it too. its on my channel if you want to critique it. we could make a dope video of you looking at my multitracks and pointing at like one of the guitars or keys or something and being like 'this is where it ceases to be reggae'
It also depends on the genre of reggae you want. Playing any inversion other than the root positing would give you a much more wide and colorful sounding piano. This is however not always the goal. Sometimes even one hand chords work better whether it be root position or inversions.
BTW a C3 Hammond has the same guts as a B3 Hammond. The "C" for Church added wood to shield the player's legs whilst playing. Otherwise they are the same. You could say C for conservative as well.
Hey bro, its Devin. cant comment on fb im banned for 1 month. but anyways, should do one on eq for keys, etc... I know you kinda did it in your older vids but maybe more in depth Big up boss!
Thank you for your reply. As I only have a PC running windows, Logic X will not run on my system. I have Bandlab Assistant installed, however, not nearly as versatile. That said, I am enjoying learning to play Reggae from your videos.
Max - Audio & Video thanks Max! It’s my own drum kit samples that I’ve specifically made for that raw reggae tone. Hit me up I’ve got the samples for sale. Thekahn@gmail.com or DM Kahn on Facebook. cheers!
I have the impression that the sheet music does not correspond to your playing? According to the sheet music notes at timestamp 4:35 In the sixth bar the first pianochord is on the 2. However in bar five the first pianochord is shown on the two-and. Bar 5 is not played like that.... Are the notes wrong?
I have no idea if the sheet music is right or wrong. I don’t read music, self taught here. I have a feeling Logic is incorrect, or my playing is not “classical” enough for Logic to pick up what I’m doing, or I’m slightly off time, etc.
