these things are so underrated. seen a stock one smashing through the chutes in cleghorn with two wheels on the air , tip toe and all craziness but somehow able to get up, some open diff wranglers even struggled a bit.i think that the lockers really compensate on the lack of travel.
@ryanmartinage

With the rear diff lock and low range, I think the Cherokee is a great little SUV. For its fuel economy, road manners, and capability, its not a bad vehicle. Jeep is putting out good stuff lately! I love my JLU.

I picked up a 19 TH Elite a month or so ago, took it to one of our wildlife management areas over the weekend. Within a mile I'd slid into a two foot rut with the right side and was stuck. After a few minutes of thinking about how I was going to get someone to drag me out, I remember the rear locker. That gave me enough traction to slide forward, git the grip I needed and move on. I covered 25 miles of the gnarliest dirt "roads" and creek crossings I've seen outside of an ORV park. I was impressed, and a bit further than I should have been without a winch. That'll have to be an upgrade soon.
@EricLS

Rear locker is really incredible. It literally is spinning tires, going nowhere -> engage locker -> zero spin, lifting tires in the air, climbing out like its paved.

There are also several companies making really great aftermarket parts for the Cherokee KL platform. MFC Offroad has a 2" coil spacer lift. Dobinsons suspension kit gives you another 1.5" of clearance. With the pinch weld mod you can fit BFG 255/75R17 KO Mud Terrains on it.

I am really not a DIY'er when it comes to suspension mods...so I am thinking of getting the Dobinsons for my incoming TH elite....but who will do the pinch weld mods for the front wheel wells????? Help!

Besides the capabilities off-road, I'm strongly considering the V6 TH for the 4500 lb. towing capacity. @Nathan, I'd love to see a Cherokee "tow-off" with the V6 vs. the new turbo engine! Take 'em both up the Ike if you ever get the chance!

I have the 2019 KL TH with the 2.0L turbo and my wife has a 2017 KL TH with the 3.2 V6, so I know both motors. Im telling you, the 2.0 turbo is the way to go. Just as much power, more torque and I'm averaging 23 MPG compared to my wife's 19 MPG.

My buddy owns a 2018 Cherokee TH, and I am very, very impressed that I will own either the GC because it has the diesel option or this with the 3.2L V6. We took it on a offroad trail with ridiculous bumps and dips, and for a 2018, he beat the crap out of that thing like it was a 1990 Civic. In my mind, I thought we would break an axle. Everyone has a different perspective, everyone does, but I love the look of these new Cherokees, maybe not the new 2019 but definitely the model before. These things can handle anything with the right equipment, don't diss these beasts. He loves his, and the only regret he has is that he got the 4 cylinder and not the V6, other than that, he loves it! Very comfortable, great interior/exterior, simple setup for the interior, and the infotainment is just amazing! At least for my taste.

apples to apples please... I too own an XJ, and comparing this thing to a real Cherokee is simply hilarious ;) We had the chance to see 2 2018 Cherokees get torn apart (lifted and equipped) early this year, in some really nice trails down here in northern Texas. The plastic it´s made of, and the weak metal beams all over its frame are just laughable. Good for a trip to the mall, or down the highway, not for the trail, or a lasting relationship.

Got a 2017 KL Trailhawk and I like it just fine. One day I want to upgrade to a 4-door Rubicon sure, but by god these KLs are capable, tough little monsters. I have zero complaints owning a CAR that can make everything my fellows in stock and some lifted Wranglers can do lol. I just finished a trail with mud and slippery rock steps not one of them thought I could make. Took me a few more tries, but I did it. They DO need rock sliders though if you want to do some serious rock clambering or seriously tough trails. That and these little beasts are comfortable and not bad at all on gas for the V6.

We have the 2019 Trailhawk and it’s more car than we need to just drive around in. The area around us is a mountain range and if we have an earthquake or a volcano eruption we might have to leave the house to get to safety. The undercarriage is covered with metal so nobody can get underneath it and steel the catalytic converter. It’s luxuriously built to protect the passengers and the vehicle itself is really well built. ❤🎉

I 1000% agree with you on putting the 2.0 turbo in the Renegade with the rear locker. Hell even the 3.2 6cyl would be awesome. Great review guys 👍👍👍👍👍. Now seriously tell Jeep to at least add the rear locker to the Renegade.!!!! As for the Cherokee how did the 2.0 feel compared to the 3.2 6cyl? I also like the old face of the Cherokee better than the new. Ironically more CUV's are copying the old face now, like the Kona & new Blazer. What do you guys think about that?

Hello guys! This is August 2020. I'm a Subaru Outback enthusiast however the limitations of a CVT got me thinking that i'm not getting all that i'm looking for. I got interested lately in the Cherokee Trailhawk for it's seemingly much superior off road capabilities and the lower transfer case; not to mention the superior towing capacity and the confidence i feel about a true transmission, especially when it comes to towing 1500 lbs on summer weekends on the way to the cottage. My question: I'm wondering which engine would be best for me. I want torque and i appreciate durability and reliability. From what i see on youtube the V6 has less torque and therefore more sluggish than a 2Lturbo charged engine. Is the extra wear and tear on a smaller engine something to be worried about? I like keeping my vehicles 7 to 10 years. My last Subaru went for 258000 miles or 416000Kms. You get my type now. What is your comment about the Cherokee Trailhawk and the choice of engine?

I purchased a 2019 Cherokee TrailHawk on Dec 31. I live near the Canadian border and we get a lot of snow. This TrailHawk in standard auto setting really goes threw snow. If you have to climb a snow covered none plowed hill, drop it in 4low and lock the rear dif. this thing is very winter capable.

They need to make a real off road version. Give this a 2" lift, larger tires and it would be great. It also needs a diesel. I know diesel is dying but I have a Chevy Colorado diesel. It's not very fast but it gets great mpgs

I am getting a 2019 TH elite with 2.0 L turbo delivered next week (in the middle of a pandemic, no less, courtesy of Carvana (we observe the usual precautions and social distance...basically the delivery person just drops it off from a trailer and I confirm it from a distance, test drive it for 30 minutes while they wait in their cab)....anyway, I am excited. I am trading in my 2017 TH (which I love but BIG mistake...I got the 2.4 L inline 4..totally underpowered...and minimal options...no nav, no dual climate control, no power seats....which I don't care much for except for that underpowered engine), so that's gonna be a huge change with this almost loaded to the guns elite package with towing options. Anyway, I digress..I've always been a Jeep guy so here's to the Cherokee!!!

The Renegade I had as a rental for a week had 4WD and therefore the Tigershark engine. It sucked in city traffic. Living in the Denver area and needing to commute in our myriad weather conditions led me the independent suspension route. Trail capability with independent suspension is difficult to find but I believe it is the sweet spot most people living in the west are looking for. Why deal with something as poor on the road as a Wrangler when a daily driver will be off road less than 10% of the time and the need for solid axles is more for bragging rights and

We bought an Overland 2.0T a month ago. Took some searching to get it loaded. Off-road suspension (trailhawk) skid plate package and all the other options checked. The only thing it does not have is the locker. That is an available option though through special order. It does 26-27 mpg with ac on and 73 mph on the interstate. About 21-22 in town. Not bad for the first 1000 miles. Glad we ordered this engine. So much torque....

This 2.0 Turbo seems to be able to 'deliver'. I'd like to see more on this engine option. This is a good video guys.

Nathan, ATRAC is the off road traction control system, Crawl Control / Multi Terrain Select is the "off road cruise control" you're thinking of and only comes in the TRD models while ATRAC is on all 4x4 trims like my SR5 4Runner, it works great

I would get the v6 over the 4 cylinder turbo
@stevenvarner9806
@stevenvarner9806 6 лет назад
I think the only reason to do that is if you regularly tow larger loads. The 4 cylinder turbo has higher torque and better gas mileage.

If you don't even plan on working on your own car ? SURE, go right ahead. If the V6 Cherokee is anything like the V6 Escape under the hood then I pity the fools that dare buy one and then work on it.
@benpurcell72

Steven Varner the gas mileage is a tentative benefit. If you live where I do, the premium gas required for top performance and best efficiency is as much as 15-20% more than regular, but the mileage numbers aren’t 15-20% better so I’d be paying more day-to-day. However, if premium doesn’t have such a high markup near you, it could be worth it

not sure about MPG! the 3.2 will get the same or better mpg then the 4 banger in real world
@MrNismopro

I’ll take the higher torque 4 cylinder you’re only loosing 1 hp going with the 4 cylinder. Plus, add a tune, a blow off, and CAÍ and exhaust and you’ll get 40 HP. Can’t do that with the V6.

I'll give it to FCA for setting up a dope ass track but honestly I haven't seen one part of the course yet that my 05 legacy non outback on street tires couldn't have done. Bring out an outback, forester, xv crosstrek, or any Subaru couldn't handle

bahahahahaha......Here we go again with a subbie lover. Reminds me of the apple cult. Oh I used to own Subaru's from 1988-1999. Yes the course here is a joke but it's meant to get the point across and showcase the jeeps features. I could show you other video's on youtube that your Subbie would turn around and run as fast as it can.
