I have bad hips and knees. I fell today and literally could not use knees or arms (injured in 2003) to get myself up. My son had to lift me and I'm a hefty gal. I'm trying to find advice if you literally can't get on your knees. I did finally roll over from a prone position and managed to get to my knees but my legs would not move, would not lift. A little scary.

Sometimes I have to sit on the floor to do work like today. But I pretty much get down and up the same way you do. But I would like to get up without the aid of a stable object if I can. I'm 75 and am about 50 pounds overweight. Thanks for your confirmation video. It should be a great help for those who has problems getting up off the floor. Keep up the good work.

It is of no help if the issue is your back.

I was on my back and couldn't turn to my side to to pain but I found I could bring my knees up and rock forward until I had the momentum to sit up. I'm pretty young but I have a disease that causes pain. Just figured I'd mention for anyone else who might land here under similar circumstances 😅

Yes knee problems are often ignored in these videos, especially if they are very inflexible. I see this was 2 years ago, but here are some links having to do with the Feldendrais method. The first two show techniques that are quite good and the other one (Improving ability) is a channel that has very slow methodical ways to build toward a movement, in this case demonstrated in one of the included videos. All three are based in Feldendrais method. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oOrrq4nkwEA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nT-IqnS87tY.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MwWDNCJo6-8.html

I used to fall on ice out in the parking area at work a lot. I learned to look to see what it looks like out there. Take shorter steps. Then try not to fall. I fell one time and then slid to the bottom end of the lot. Somehow I crawled back to where my truck was. I'm in my mid-sixties and every winter I worry about falling out there.

Have you tried Yaktrax or other kinds of rubber and metal shoe grips?
@rosebuddanielle967
@rosebuddanielle967 Месяц назад
Please use YakTrax on the bottom of your boots. My elderly father kept them on his boots and he could walk on a sheet ice driveway without slipping. They really do work! I use them every winter to walk safely on slick or icy ground.

Most falls by seniors are in bathrooms, toilets where the floor is wet, also when they fall in bathrooms and toilets nobody knows until it's too late. Show us how to get off a wet slippery bathroom, or shower stall.

Yes, my worst fall (I fractured my L4 vertebrae) was in the bathroom. I couldn't find a way to get up, so i ended up calling the paramedics and had them help me up and then take me to the emergency room. Two of my other bad falls were outside in my driveway. The first one, my roommate helped me up, which was a miracle because he's 70 years old and at that time i weighed nearly 285 pounds and my ankle was injured in the fall. The other driveway fall, my roommate and a neighbor got me up and then my roommate drove me to the emergency room. That was six weeks ago and i haven't been able to walk ever since.

Hi @maryannbjorgaard9553. In case this helps, the following resource includes a pictorial guide on what to do if you can't use your knees: www.healthpromotion.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Fall-at-home-poster-final-Opt-Web-April-2020.pdf However, if you or someone you know cannot raise up through too much pain, we would advise having a plan in place if you do fall, such as having a personal alarm, or an object in reach that you can use to alert a neighbour by banging the wall, for example, or a phone nearby to call for help. If you are in pain, please call an ambulance.

@@CCHealthPromotion Thanks for writing back to me. I live on a small farm and work outdoors a lot. When I have fallen outdoors I try and find something I can lean/push myself up on to help get myself up and so far its worked for me. This year I'm trying to use a walking stick and it helps. For me it seems I've lost some muscle strength in my legs and it hurts when trying to get up.
