What truly shocks me is that he had reached 30 without people realizing his sexual preferences. I'm just glad he didn't marry and ruin a woman's life. I hope he now has found peace
Wow! So many parallels to my story. - I left my home state 5 years ago and moved to NY like Jonathan. God told me that I was going to be healed. And he confirmed it through a scripture Mark 8:22-26. At the time, I thought it was a physical healing but (like God) it was bigger than what I was thinking at the time. It was physical, emotional and mental. I started the journey of finding me! I met a friend who helped me start to think and deconstruct my faith. I thought he was a heretic and that he was a lost soul. But boy was I humbled. I was more the one lost in religion. That chance meeting was then beginning of me beginning to embrace all of me. Including the “gay” me. Ultimately I came out to myself last year and finally stopped running and accepted who I authentically am. This guest along with pretty much everyone you guys had on here have touched and confirmed that I am on the right path - my path! Bravo to another great interview
The whole "when did you know you were gay?" question is one I've always found to be an interesting one, mostly because you never hear people wondering when straight people knew they were straight. Almost like people consider straight to be the default, so if you're gay, something must've happened like a switch in the brain that made someone realize "Oh, I'm gay." That wasn't my experience at all. I can remember being flirtatious with boys going back to elementary school. There was a time in elementary school when I blew a boy a kiss, kind of like how some boys will play with girls' hair. Fast forward to middle school when I found myself being distracted by certain boys in class. Then to high school where it was a full-on attraction that comes with all the biological things that go with that (that might not be RU-vid-friendly to mention lol). For me, being attracted to boys came just as naturally as being attracted to girls comes for straight guys. No one ever told me to try and be attracted to boys. I just was. The whole "being gay is a choice" argument is so moronic, and I'm so tired of hearing it.
I'm a retired school teacher and one of my former students who is lesbian shared a conversation with her father. He asked her, "When did you know you were gay?" She responded with, "When did you know you were straight?" He said at that moment it hit him and he understood.
@@tekmantoo It's funny, because most kids start to form attractions to other people before they're even aware of the concepts of straight and gay. To me, asking someone when they knew they were gay is as weird of a question as asking someone when they knew their eyes were blue. Like, these aren't things that we have to learn about ourselves in order for it to be the case. They just are what they are.
There's a version of this argument were western society is creating gay people with gay propaganda I can't stand this shit, furthermore it's impossible to reason with these people.

I identified with Jonathan’s comment about managing distance within the family unit. I’ve had to do that in my life and it has grieved me so much. Thank you for your encouragement that there is another way other than that self defense mechanism!
I was an evangelical associate pastor when I realized I was gay...I was married...the church turned dark and hateful when I came out, but what we both did to my wife ripped out her heart.
I have really enjoyed this guest. I don’t know if you have ever heard of Randy Roberts Potts. He is the grandson of Oral Roberts. He has an amazing testimony. I hope you can get him on your podcast sometime. You will be amazed all the Lord has brought him through. More importantly your audience needs to hear everything he has faced and made it and triumphed.
Laughing from the intro, “I tried to be straight broadcast.” Years for me, guess its healthier now to laugh, rather than cry at all the wasted life I allowed. It hurts to have existed without living but hope less are doing that nowadays.
It’s so interesting.. I’m 62, and I remember the word Queer was absolutely not accepted and was considered the worst! Now it’s common and appropriate to use… go figure!
