When the Formula One World Championship started in 1950, cars were painted in national colours and only the manufacturers took it seriously. But then the so-called Garagistas arrived and through innovation started beating the manufacturers even with their smaller budgets.
But how did they make their money before Colin Chapman brought sponsorship to Formula One? It was all to do with starting money, where the organisers paid the teams. Pretty simple.
