When I use to go for five days to the Adirondack Mts hunting I would start getting things together a month before we went . We drove in to the wilderness area 13 miles and then hiked into a lake 6 miles away. My former bride use to get all pissy because I started packing for that trip a month ahead and when we went on vacation I packed the day before. I informed her that there wasn't a Walmart a mile down the road if I forget something .
I use to bring a one pound propane tank with me to use with a torch to light a fire and for a small lantern that screwed on. I always put the used tank aside and used it at home or work for doing plumbing ect. I always brought a full one hunting. Again, no Walmart down the street
For sure my fave part of camping is making our space comfy and cozy and as relaxing as it can be. Then just enjoying the ambiance and the fire and the folk. I mean I am not one that needs a tv and all the amenities but I want to be comfortable and feel like I dont want to leave. Hope you're having a great time!
Duck Camp 2023 was another fun time with weather changes and good conversations around the fires. Stay tuned, I have about 18 to 20 hours of video to edit through. The last two days I was up at 3 AM so I decided to just spend tonight with Melissa (now that I am back home). I will start editing on that video tomorrow night. I should sleep well tonight.
In our deer camp, we used two Humphrey propane gas wall lamps with acetylene hoses. Brighter than gas or gasoline lanterns. We made a manifold at the tank so we could shut off individual appliances which also used 2 cast iron 2 burner tabletop cooking stoves. The advantage is they operate under low pressure with a regulator so they are safer than high pressure lanterns. They sometimes plug up a nozzle with grease lubricant found in propane tanks. You need to pack welders nozzle cleaners. Also, when the 20 and 30 # tanks get low and the temperature gets down to 20 below, the appliances sometimes don't get enough gas pressure. The solution is to use a 50 or 100 # tank or manifold 2 20# or 30# tanks together. It was a problem we never quite solved because we quit hunting.
My X and I used to go camping with a Coleman canvas tent and a big Buick. We would go for two weeks at a time. I was organized like you and we had everything. Only would buy fire wood and meat when we got there. Watching you pack, sure does bring back the memories. We had a blast! Have a great time and enjoy yourself and your family. God bless.
You beauty ..the one I look forward to every year ..have a great time with your old Dad mate ..hopefully we see Sarah and Zach to …from outback Western Australia 👍
Do you turn your big tank upside down to fill the small tanks? That's how I do it. It is liquid propane. Also open the small hole on the little bottles a couple times to release excess pressure so the propane can go in.
Hi brother I love your videos it's how I used to do things before my heart attack. I don't get to hunt like I use to but thank my lord I'm here to be able to get out and enjoy the beautiful woods. Please keep the videos coming I enjoy them God bless you all my friend. Dan
Have me wondering now, is the plan to use the Louisiana furniture and stuff in the big garage in the new guesthouse? Anyone else wondering why Joe doesn’t just light and power his camp with his new ECO Flow? That thing would power your stuff the entire time.
Kept thinking, I wonder how long it will take to realize that the solar panels and ECO Flow will handle so much of the light and charging needs with a lot less stuff to haul?
@@kewljewl3006Exactly. We have two Mango Power E’s we fixed to a relatively small, heavy duty landscapers wagon that give us 7kwh. Having it on the wagon makes it a breeze to move it wherever we need it and we can tuck it away fully charged when we don’t need it.
For the tanks, take a small needle nose and pull up(out) on the safety release and the tanks will fill in a few seconds. I do a soapy water check when finished on the safety valve. I also do it by weight to not over fill.
Duck camp is all about having fun and hanging out with your hunting buddies and family. When you get older you can pull your camper up there to hunt. Drink beer around a fire, tell stories and have fun. It's a bonus to shoot a few ducks.
Duck Camp is my favorite series as it is my favorite time of the year. I only wish Duck Camp was longer series. Thanks for the great entertainment Joe. Bring lots of beer and a small table so you can eat in some comfort...
Joe I like how you prepare yourself for duck camp that’s smart making sure you have everything before you leave the house I like how you talk about your family your grandfather your father your uncles your brothers your sister-in-law, your kids you’re right that’s what it’s all about being with the family talking about the old times and having fun when you’re hunting for ducks
pull out the relief valve center pintle on the 1lb when it's hooked up to the 20lb....I use like Doctor needle nose type plier that lock closed like they use for stiches.
Joe, do yourself a favour get rid of the small propane tanks and just go with 20lb tanks. You can buy the adapter hose i think Zack has one on his Buddy heater in his NEW deer blind he build you can buy them in differnt lengths to mate to your lanterns, heaters etc. Saves on the little green tank hassle and BBQ tanks last alot longer. Just an Idea, i watch all your vidoes. Good luck on the hunt.
As far as filling your 1# propane bottles go, what I found out is that the hose itself must have a check valve in it. I was having the same problem and I looked a little closer at the hose and could see a little ball check in there, so I dug it out and it still didn't work. I then swapped ends of the hose and it worked fine. I'm not even sure I had to dig out that little ball check, but whatever, it works now
When I fill my little propane canisters first thing is if the big tank is almost empty I have a hard time, also sometimes you have to bleed off the air, I use a small Philips head screwdriver and push down the plunger in the middle, I don’t us the small bleed off valve on the side. Freeze your small canisters and turn your big tank upside down. Also joe, looks like it’s time to re paint that canoe, needs a new camo job on it, lol
Ooh boy!! It's that time of year!! I enjoy watching you go through your Duck Camp supplies, it's no wonder you need a trailer, for all that bring.. It sounds like a great time.. Stay safe and have a great day.🤓👍🤓👍.Randy.
Great video, Joe. We feel about deer camp the way you feel about duck camp. Of course, we don't duck hunt, never have. It isn't about killing stuff; it is the experience of getting out and enjoying yourself while your there. Why be miserable being there, get things setup and enjoy yourself. Always look forward to these videos, heck I just love watching all the videos, either here on Joe and Zack or Northernseclusion. Thanks for taking the time to do these, Joe. Juddie - J & J TOA
Why not make camp as enjoyable as possible with all of the comforts that you can attain. It's all about having a great time! Best of luck at camp and looking forward to watching the video!
Joe, I’ve been thinking about you, my brother, who is a Massachusetts state trooper had to have a hernia operation same place where you have yours he had it done three weeks ago and he’s doing fantastic. I’ll be thinking of you and sending your prayers. When you have yours you’ll go through it with flying colors to love your videos. Tell Melissa I said hi.
Hey Joe it’s always good to be prepared and my husband and l were to go duck hunting, we would do it just like you do and as always thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
I have found that if I make a spreadsheet on my computer of all the gear that you have to pack, it makes packing easier. You can sort it by where it is stored and you can edit, I print out a few copies. You can add notes on whether items get used and what is needed to replace of buy more.
Hey Joe, is really duck camp time of year? Seems harder and harder to get to my cabin. I know you work extremely hard to be able to take the time that you do to do that. Must be a great crew you have. I totally agree, if I had to give up all hunting but one, it'd be duck hunting I'd choose to do. I lived on Pool 7, (Lake Onalaska), Dresbach dam on the Mississippi river. From getting home from school to sitting in a blind was less than 15 minutes! I was blessed to live where I did. I also agree on camping. The purests can waggle their tongues all they want while I'm sitting dry and comfy. :) Been a while since I commented. But duck season memories inspired me to write. Have a great trip and celebrate being with your Dad and family cause that's truly what duck camp is about.
Have you considered using the solar battery system for lights and power instead of the lanterns and generator ?? LED lights draw so little power the solar battery charge last a long time
JusI’m got myself some new Skechers Trail. Pretty comfy. Which ones did u get ? Sharp lookin ! Any bird hunting is just so much fun ! Partridge or Grouse is my favorite !
Teaching rhe kids to not be stupid. Too funny. Some adults need rhose lessons as well🤣🤣🤣. Its alot of preparing ro do these duck hunt videos. We all certainly appreciate every detail Joe. Can't wait for the duck hunr video to start😊. Tyfs God you
Joe one of these days you’re going have to get a cargo trailer just for duck camp so everything is in one place the down fall of this is so much easier to hand push the snowmobile trailer by hand into to bush out of the way don’t get wet this weekend looks like rain good luck as they say keep your powder dry
When my family and I went camping in the 60's we only had one Colman lantern and some flash lights. You are so well prepared, but it takes a lot of prep work and planning. I never knew you could refill those small propane tanks. I kept thinking...are you going to get the spiders out of your canoe? Have a great duck camp!
Not many ducks where we were either this year. Some years are awesome as far as getting ducks and some not so much. We had a great weekend, thats why I call it Duck Camp and not duck hunting.
Just amazes me how that canoe has not weathered away to where it's not usable anymore. I bet a modern made canoe would not of lasted as long as yours has Joe.
I don't ever comment much but I've watched you for years and when my husband was alive he watched you also my question today is do you have a new pup and if you do what's his or her name have a good duck hunt and enjoy the camp
Thank you. Melissa found it in the ditch down the road from our house two Fridays ago. We went to the missing pets place and the police dept trying to find its owner. They all figure that someone dropped her off to get rid of her. You can see those videos and watch her progress (if we keep her and right now Melissa seems to be leaning that direction) on the Northern Seclusion channel.
Your getting ready for Duck camp. I'm getting ready for early muzzleloader deer and black bear here in Pennsylvania. I use to be a big waterfowl hunter. Our early Canada goose season is the whole month of September. Now if I get back into waterfowl I'm going to get back into Snow goose hunting.
My goodness do you really need all that stuff? How many lamps 10 or more. And doesn't Zack bring stuff and Sarah. You need to have a garage/shed/farm sale.
