Patterning shotguns getting cases from boss fixing old motion decoys touching up and painting decoys and blinds building new blinds checking waders scouting for birds. Season in WI started sept 28 and we hammered em!
Currently repainting about 5 - 6 dozen full-body specks in total. Did almost 3 dozen tanglefree and 14 old-school hard cores. Currently working on the Avian-X's and have a few old GHG to do also. Cleaning up mojo's from teal season, about to reload the lanyard with duck and goose calls, instead of teal calls, organizing decoys and other gear, and whatever else needs to be done before November (LOL).
I'm really having a hard time understanding why and how u don't have a million subscribers. This is by far the best channel when it comes to duck hunting. The research that u do when it comes to products is unmatched! Second to none. The professionalism second to none.I have learned so much from this channel, thank u
There aren't a million duck hunters in the us. I consider myself an amateur and he is a professional duck hunter , club owner, and salesman, so most of his information doesn't really apply to me. I only watch for information, and new gadgets but I am limited by income and the weight of things that I have to lug out to the public hunting area.
There aren't a million active duck hunters only 900,000. He did research and then recommended the products he is selling. Boss. Mueller, Winchester etc. He omitted information on a lot of other products. He is selling a service and products and probably getting them free and paid to sell them. Thus he has professional bias. Do you own your own property? How does learning about how to prepare a 1000s acres duck club help you if you hunt on public land ? Are you going to drag a pit blind out there on your 4 wheeler? In my state you will be arrested. I had the same thing happen to my triathlon coach. First a starter bike and he was helping a lot of beginners. Next he has $20,000 bike with $10,000 wheels, electronic treadmill, indoor flow pool, and $500 Nike shoes. He started recommending products , supplements, and expensive training for professional competitors. He lost nearly all his followers. They have lost their perspective !
After watching a bunch of your videos and other duck hunter's videos, i went on my first solo hunt last week and saw 20+ ducks. Managed to harvest an american black duck. I was very proud and happy!
The biggest thing to work on in Ohio is finding new hunting spots. All the marshes are taken, all the farmers are tiling every sq inch of the fields, and all the communities are putting in wetlands that you can’t hunt so that’s where the birds go. We’re not in a major flyway but there’s some pretty good hunting on Lake Erie. It’s tough in Ohio unless you’re fortunate enough to have premium spots. Thanks Joel
My favorite part is definitely building blinds and different hide systems. I take sheets of burlap and spray them both sides with flexseal, then camo stencil them, and brush them in with zip ties and Mo marsh grass. They fold up really nice and have good stiffness for easily set up improvised blinds.
I prefer to hunt the lakes here in Nebraska and SW Iowa. I had a 14ft Jon Boat, but this past winter I got rid of it and purchased a 16ft Lund. I've spent the entire off season removing paint and completely re-doing this boat. Now, the blind is on and we are finally ready to go in 2 weeks. Hope everyone on here has a great season!
Thank you for the tips, Joel! To get ready for duck season I bought a new gun ‘for my girlfriend to try duck hunting’ for the first time (realistically it’s for me, and so long as she likes duck hunting{who wouldn’t?!?} I’ll get her one better fitted for her) and we went out and practiced, as well as patterned the guns, thanks to you and your videos. Also got some new, full flocked black duck decoys (also thanks to you) a few more goose decoys. And some more land permission!
Following your suggestion and pattering both my shotguns with loads and chokes I plan on hunting with.. Bought some new decoys and been shooting both skeet and 5 stand with my duck guns.. Keep up the Awesome videos and God Bless
Just to make sure people don’t get confused about replacing the reed, the reed needs to curve up. So kinda think of it as a smiley face, not a sad face.
Joel, I think it would be really beneficial to see how you have your pickup truck set up for hunting season, Its fair to say a lot of us spend a lot of time behind the wheel chasing after ducks and it seems as if I am always forgetting something. So how does your truck set up look a couple of weeks before season starts? Thanks Joel!
Awe man Joel. No duck hunting for me this year😢. I will be breaking ground soon on my dream home. So my wife and I will be focusing all our time performing construction. Definitely upsetting for my hunting season this year. But keep the content coming. At least I’ll be able to catch your videos before hiring the hay.
From the great Northwest public duck blind. Yes Joel, this used to be a hectic time of the year trying to think you have Everything To Do it Right, and get those birds in nice and tight. But I do think we overthink it. We all know that the conditions have to come together. You can go out duck hunting and not kill a thing. Or you can go out when the conditions are right and the birds are in and you're decoys are out and for hidden out of sight those are some of the biggest factors that I see in hunting. I traffic a lot of birds. It's public land and they really like the private fields. I have a lot of tricks. But those don't work if there's not the birds you have to be on a flight line. And in our case we need the wind in rain to push these birds off the coast inland so yes I do spend a lot of time in the blind. Waiting on them right conditions, and as we all know when that happens you are hooked. As always God bless from the great Northwest I cannot wait to see more from you Joel and los bridge duck club.
Seeing how all my decoys burned up in the barn the other day this video is helpful. Had a question, when did decoy makers start putting two hens in diver sets instead of the traditional all drake diver sets???
Hey! Great advice... but don't forget to get yourself in better shape. Slogging through water can be exhausting if not in decent shape. Heart attacks are real
Hey Joel hoping for some advice, I’m a new duck hunter this is my second season, I’m a college sophomore. Your tips are super helpful, based on your ammo review and choke tube testing I’ve settled on a Muller passing choke and Boss shells for my Stoeger M3000. I mostly hunt with 1-2 buddies or alone. The difficult thing is finding other hunters to hunt with. Particularly hunters my age. Do you have any tips on finding other people passionate about duck hunting as well? Thanks for the videos they are the best on RU-vid, I’m pumped for duck season , I try to practice at the skeet range at least once a week and using clay hunt with a VR headset almost daily.
How have I prepared? I started making duck calls, now I feel like I have no time and always crazy busy. And it’s my dogs first season, and my nephews first season
@SurvivingDuckSeason Duck and Goose season opened up for me in Ontario, Canada Saturday. Got out with a buddy to a public marsh I scouted. The Teal were THICK this year and we limited out by the time the sun barely cracked the horizon. Things I did: 1. Ensure my hearing protection is charged. Best purchase I ever made was in-ear hearing protection and amplification. 2. Gun cleaned, oiled and good visual inspection. 3. Duck\Goose Calls cleaned 4. Headlamp charged and/or fresh batteries. 5. Visual inspection of waders and other equipment. 6. Weather check for what gear to be sporting for the hunt. Love the videos and have learned a ton from you. Once I have the channel up and fully running I would love to have you as a guest! Happy Hunting!
