Hi there i jst had to come here and thank you for the tips. You have really helped to prepare for the selection week and by the grace of God i have been selected. May this continue to help others as well. God bless you Kgaetsedi
Congratulations Prince your comment made me smile. You should be so proud of getting in and I'm sure you are doing well and getting ready for your internship. All the best
Hey, I was actually considering that, well not as far as honours but yes I can do that. I'll try have it up in the next two weeks so please be on the lookout.
You're more than welcome hope things went well for you. Being scared only shows how much this means for you, we all feel the same way when going through the process.
Interview is in about 2 hours and it’s safe to say my heart is beating out of my chest. I’ve been coming back to this video for the past week. Thank you! 🥺
Only 7 minutes in and wow this is already extremely helpful and so informative. I love how detailed you made this break down. Everything I've seen previously has been very brief and vague. So grateful for this!
Hey girl! Thanks for the video..very helpful. Do you know much about how Griffith University work? I want to study psychology next year and go on to a masters as well. Do you know what the panel there look for in students regarding the interview process? Are they more research focused, person focused....? Thank you! ❤
Hi🌻thanks for the video. I hear you say you went in with no counselling experience, what did you draw from to show experience in your 'interview'? Thanks☺️
Hi Zanani, I had experience volunteering in various organisations and worked with infants, adolescents and elderly people. I also had a lot of life experience including living and being exposed to diverse groups both locally and internationally.
Thank you so much for sharing. 3 years later and it's still a helpful tool for those on the journey to becoming a psychologist. I start my interviews tomorrow and am glad to have these insights in mind.
So I literally sat and listened to the entire video like someone who is interested in Psyc Masters! Friends like me are rare😂or maybe it’s because I enjoyed hearing your voice nje simply because I miss you and it felt like you are right here 🤷🏼♀️ Anywhooo! Great content sis, like this was so informative nje, keep up the good work😊
I’m based all the way in Australia and even found this helpful for my interviews over here! You’re a phenomenal communicator. All the very best for your own journey! Thanks so much for your insights!
@@PsychIRL thank you! Since I wrote this, I’ve had my Clinical Psychology interviews and have already been offered a place! I’m so grateful for your help during this video-thank you again! Take care! ☺️
Ntokozo, I definitely recommend you do that I did a video to provide reasons why a career in psychology is needed in SA, please check it out ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SXQFa719GfY.html
Thank you so much for this informative video. I am an Honours student looking into applying at Nelson Mandela University in PE for Masters in Clinical Psychology. Do you know how the process of selection weeks goes in that institution?
Thank you ❤. Im so glad that your video came up! informative video. I'm applying for Masters in I/O psychology. Your video is so informative. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the feedback. That might be a bit difficult because there's not really requirements but more on how they find your application and I guess what is needed is on the application form. I have a video on the application process so you might find watching that as being helpful.
Hi will this be the pattern for an online interview too? I have applied for a course of Master's in Mental Health Counselling. My interview is due tomorrow. Pls help!!!
Hi... I'm a learner in high school and I want to ask for guidance or help on the course of psychology and the process that comes with it on understanding the whole procedure.🙂
Hi Amantle, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The series was actual up a month ago but due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to put the channel on hold for a while. I will definitely be coming back soon!
Wow this video is just what I needed. Thank you for sharing with us...I am currently applying for my Masters in Clinical Psychology and I am so nervous. I wrote my biography but I'm not as confident about it because I don't have like heavy trauma to write about. Do they expect you to write about trauma or what exactly can one write about? Could you please give tips on what possible things to include in the autobiography and generally how to write it.
Glad it was helpful! I suggest including experiences that will help the panel understand what makes you a suitable candidate for the program so if you include traumas explain how they affected you, how you worked through them and how these experiences would be beneficial for you as a psychologist.
I just subscribed to your channel and I feel inspired. I love this video and I believe that it is going to help me a lot, because I am doing my honours and preparing for masters applications. I need to prepare for the interviews as early as possible. You seem to be a loving, kind and bubbly person 😊 I am your number one fan from today ❤
Hi Vinoliah, welcome to the family. I'm glad to hear that you found the video as being helpful and all the best with your application and interview process😊
Girl please help me, I'm currently busy with my Masters application in Clinical Psychology. I'm unsure of the Psychological theory or concept I should write on for my sample writing? and how do I structure it?
Hi Nelisiwe, best advice is two things look into the biopsychosocial model and the etiological theory that includes predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating and protective factors.
Hey dear.😍😍💗I need your Help here :) I have a genuine interest in studying Psychology, aspiring to become an Educational Psychologist! However I'm very much anxious in terms of how competitive it is to get into the Honours & Masters Programme, especially since funding is concerned. My question is if I take Psychology this year how Will I get funding for my Postgrad studies since Nsfas doesn't cover Postgrad. That's a really big deciding factor for me since I don't come from a working background. I have till nextweek to decide & I've been accepted for Occupational Therapy but My heart lies in Psychology. I really don't know what to do. 😷😷😭 Is Psychology too risky for me? Considering my backround?😳 I'd appreciate you can give me a little bit of guidance :)
Not sure how I missed this, so firstly, my apologies for the delayed response but I hope it helps nonetheless. Getting into honours is mostly about your academic performance and if you do well then that increases your chances of getting in. With masters it's more about experience (in the field and life experience and how that has moulded you) and character. Those are also things you can work on. I think all career paths are a risk because it can go either way so I think maybe base your decision on what you are passionate about. There are also more funding opportunities at postgrad than undergrad level. I'm not sure about OT and funding opportunities so you'd need to do more research on both, decide what you are passionate about and make an informed decision. I hope that helps.
Hi sis...fpund your chanel and its very helpful thank u so much for this enlightenment. I did my honors and passed with an average of 69 but failed 1 module...my research mark is good, 70% to be precise, do u think I stand a chance? are u on socials
Hi Moalusi, yes, I do. The link is on the page banner for my insta account. But to answer to yourquestion, you'd have to check the entry requirements for whatever university and program you want to apply for, that should give you some idea of whether or not you're likely to be accepted.
Hi. You need an honours in psychology to apply for masters. You'd have to find out from the universities you are interested in applying for whether you'd need to do a relevant undergrad or your current modules can get you the credits you need to apply for honours (e.g. social work students who do psych modules can apply for honours if they have enough psych credits without having to redo undergrad)
I feel people think of experience in the field as being limited to working in some sort of counselling setting but the reality is, psychology is about engaging with people and being able to relate with people from different backgrounds/ contexts. Any kind of experience you have working with people is worth including so for example if you were volunteering at a home or were part of a society that did volunteering work and leadership/ mentoring younger people all that is experience.
Hey, thank you for your video, it was really informative. I've been invited to Rhodes and UFS and unfortunately both interviews are on the same week. I just wanted to find out from you, based on your experience where would you go? UFS or Rhodes?
Hi Grace I'm glad you found this video useful and congrats on getting that interview invites that is and of itself a great accomplishment. It's quite hard for me to say because I didn't go for the UFS selection process and thus, I didn't do much research into their program. Try comparing the training program between the two and pick the one that aligns more with your career goals. You want to be in a well rounded program where you will learn with clinical and psychometric skills as well as be exposed to a lot of theoratical perspectives. For example Rhodes trains in both CBT and psychodynamic which means you'd get quite a well rounded training for both short term and long term therapy. Also look at the dymographics of the people they work with. At UCT we are the Child Guidance Clinic and we mostly work with children and families although we also have adult clients so I've learned more there than I would have at a program that focuses on just adults. So do your research first before making a decision and whatever decision you make base it on which program aligns with your career goals and where you would gain more well rounded competencies. Let me know if you need help with anything and best of luck for your interviews.
Please check their department page. Each masters program usually has a separate page within the department and that’s where you’ll find the information.
Thank you so much for creating this RU-vid channel. The information you've provided is extremely informative. I'm currently doing my final year in my undergrad studies (majoring with Psychology) at Unisa. Im planning to go full-time for my postgraduate studies. I'll be applying at Wits, UJ and UP. My question is, what is the selection process for honours? Especially coming from a different university. Am I required to write a motivational letter? And if so what can you advise that it entails?
Hi Khanyisile, I did honour years ago so the application process might be a lot different than it was then. You'd have to check with each institution regarding the application and selection process. The last time I checked, there isn't really a selection process, you apply and they tell you whether or not you are in based on your application. I don't remember writing any motivation until masters so again you'd have to check with each institution.
I have been doing honours with unisa and we don't have any form on interaction with our lecturers.... How would you suggest I go about seeking for referees? Thank you, your video is informative and reduces the stigma of the difficulty of applying.... 🙃
This is probably one of the greatest challenges on online learning. I'd suggest you pick a lecturer where there is a much more small number of people in the course, they might have a better sense of how you perform in that group. Also, if you have consulted with any of them then those people would be best to talk to because they have a sense of you beyond just marking your papers. If you guys have any kind of engagements that involve things like answering questions or supervised group interactions then the facilitators who have observed you would also be great as academic references. Also consider other forms of referees that aren't just academic so for example getting character referees from people you've worked with.
