I used my corn silk this year for a tincture and it worked great for my kidneys! I’m a UK herbalist and I create my own range of loose leaf herbal tea blends and they taste way better than herbal tea bags. My favourite thing at markets is to provide tasters to people and I’ve converted several to drink loose leaf instead of tea bags! 😄 Kate 🌱

I have found a tremendous difference between teas from herbs I dried myself compared to store bought eg. Chamomile. The flavor is more intense. Who knows how old those herbs are in the store. I think the medicinal effect is definitely impacted. Maybe that is a good reason why ppl don't feel herbs are effective.

Yeah the longer something sits the less potent. Imagine the nutrient levels after they spray all our food with that new Apeel stuff that makes an avocado look brand new after 30 days! Omg. So the fact they grow everything in dead soil means it's already lacking in 90% of the nutrients. A plant's gut microbiome is it's roots. The microbes make the nutrients plant available. When we use chemicals it kills the microbes. The vegetables might look good but they have the nutritional value of cardboard and I bet they genetically modify them to have darker color to fool you.

When looking for a teacher, I would say make sure your teacher works with living plants and not just dried plant material ordered from companies. There's a difference between being an herbalist who has studied botany, worked directly with living plants, knows when to harvest and what plant parts to use and in what preparations and being a pharmacologist who just uses plant dried plant material and never goes out in nature to see how the plant grows through all the seasons and creates a relationship with the plants. Learn from a person and not just books and certainly not just the internet. Very nice introduction to herbalism.

I love the sensible information that you are sharing. I have been 'studying' and 'using' herbs for over 30 years. It is so empowering to be able to use the 'weeds' that grow around me and those herbs/medicinals I grow in my own garden for my food, teas and to manage my own health. More power to people who are taking back control of their own lives through their food and what they choose to ingest. Keep up the good work! Sending aloha (love) from New Zealand 💞🌿

Thanks for always being so willing to share your knowledge. My daughter and I just started down the medicinal herbs road approximately 1 year ago. We started with making elderberry syrup and have expanded this year to drying and preserving plantain (which by the way came in handy that I knew to use it after a wasp attack this last summer 👍) and I just strained off my first batch of fire cider. We are going slow because I feel it's better to know a lot about a few plants versus a little about a lot of plants. Anyway, I just want to say hi and thank you from the Edwards Homestead in south central Indiana. 👋

Herbal medicine has a very ancient history in parts of Europe and is considered very feminine and is connected to other skills like cooking, cleaning , gathering , healing that could be the reason that certain parts of Europe like Germany and Norway used mostly females healers in the times before the rise of Christianity. Woman also has connections to other skills like sowing and weaving, making thread, cloth , to a point of its surviving in the mythologies, Norms weaving the fates of men, cleaning wounds, treating it and then sowing the wound closed. One of the old jokes is that the hearts of woman are made on a whirling wheel.

I would never again drink tea from a tea bag from the store. The little bags themselves that hold the tea, as well as the tea "leaves" itself have additives. Most of them have been sitting on a shelf for minimum many months, of not years. I have just started taking a deep dive into herbalism, homesteading and can't soak up the information fast enough. These are the things that we should be taught. God has blessed us with a garden of all that we need. And I agree with you on getting books. Too much is now available online, where it can be altered or modified. There is a reason this information is not taught to us. Many blessings to you, and thank you for this content.

You mentioned how tea bags aren't the same and it's actually very interesting because when a planet grows in the wild they have microbial and symbiotic relationships with other species such as fungus, which do not happen in a cultivated and sterile setting, thus they have other chemical properties from the presents of these other cells and the effect will be different. The benefits of many herbs may very well come from the combination of chemicals produced from these interspecies relationships and not just the isolated herb.

Mountain Maus has really good medicinal herbs also, and I like Pacific Botanicals too. I looked into becoming a registered herbalist 3-4 years ago, but there are not any Schools around my area. This is something everyone should know, especially the shape this world is now.

I love watching your Mom and you. You guys inspire me more every time. I have been practicing herbalism for a few years now. My Apothecary is a lot smaller but I have around 30 tinctures and quite a few elixirs. I forge as much as possible and also buy from Frontier, Mountain Herbs and Starwest. Have you started selling your tinctures yet and are you having any workshops planned at your Apothecary yet? God is Good.

Female herbalists used to be hung and burned at the stake under Christianity, The church wanted to reduce a woman role in medicine before this period healing was considered woman work, Stitches , herbal medicines, midwifery, minor surgery, sowing, weaving, brewing, cooking, cleaning and some of those herbs in those ancient pagan medicines are used in modern medicine. Weaving is so connected to woman that it exists in pagan mythologies, One of the more common ones is the norms. Sowing, stitching, wounds and cloth, cooking and making herbal medicines. A Mans hands are normally more suited to wielding a sword then a needle and in modern times attempts to murder and maim by doctors are overwhelmingly male. Male doctors want to wage war against their patients normally without the patient realizing the doctor wants them dead or maimed. The return of woman to medicine has some benefits to mankind.

Must be wonderful to live in an area of the country that you have so much available to forage. I live in the desert southwest.....ain't much around here but cactus! LOL I try and grow some basic herbs and have to buy those I cannot get to grow due to the heat here. They are not cheap....love your channel.

Loving the clear explanations, conversation with cool women. “We’re not afraid to get our hands dirty and learn something old” either. Thanks so much for all the shares🫶🏾

PS: I enjoy your videos. More so when you are together. You guys are so much fun. This past summer I couldn't find goldenrod, which it is so strange. But I will scatter seeds. They are abundant in SC but I have 8 acres of land and no goldenrod! Never before. I want this beautiful herb back in my land.

I love strictly medicinal. Their seeds are great. I purchased a lb of chamomile from a popular source, and of all the things I have purchased from them, this was such a disappointment. I'm used to growing my own, and I ran out. I like my homegrown chamomile. I have just a few dried herbs. I made usnia tincture, but I was so afraid to use it, I thru it away. I just wasn't sure I used the right usnia. That brought me down. So I decided it was scarry for me. I really wanted to make my own medicine, for my family. But I'm so afraid to make myself or someone in my family sick. I do teas and meals with herbs. But not everyone will eat or drink tea. Bummer.

I just found you two and you are now one of my top ten channels ♥️. Thank you for sharing book recommendations. I needed this info. I appreciate the info on credible sources for the Herbal Guild to find local classes and online seminars because I want to take classes asap. Please provide some books with recipes. I need to learn how to create the tinctures, salves, etc.
