I know the 3ds has native ds scaling where you can hold Start and it scales the game but makes it small. Does homebrew provide any options for making the scale better, but keeps the game size large? I have a new 3ds xl with luma installed
Yes. Look into TWPatch which is available through the Universal updater app or online. It's a set of upscale filters you can use to make DS games look better. There are a lot of options so hopefully you can find one that you like. None of them are perfect, but some of them do look better than the default one that Nintendo uses imo.
@TooManyHandhelds thank you! I looked into it a bit and it seems like the filter selection is a little limited. Is there a way to get more or is it only the options provided? It's still really cool either way
That's the only one that I'm aware of, but there may be a better one out there, and new homebrew is coming out all the time so I wouldn't be surprised if a better one comes out eventually, or even more filters for this one. Also it might be worth trying some of these filters even if the app previews don't look great because those stills aren't as representative of what a game in motion looks like and sometimes they look better than the preview on a real game ...and sometimes they look worse.
