I just watched this video for the first time and really appreciate someone taking the time to go through it all, bit by bit. It's really inspired me to get involved after years of umming and ahhhing. ☺️
Total War Warhammer 2 convinced me to stark AoS. I am gonna go with Skaven, love Ikit Claw in Mortal Empires, I guess its not gonna be cheap. Atleast I got brushes and stuff already since i play 40k for over 15 years.
Definitely a good guide to starting AoS, if anybody asks me for advice on getting started, I'll be sure to send them here! There is one thing I'd add though: AoS Skirmish is a great way to start playing for even cheaper. The Skirmish book is only £6 and the warband boxes you can buy are only £40 makes it an even better way to start playing, and with fewer models.
I just found your channel. This is a great overview for new players. You might cover this in your other videos, but for beginners to the hobby, it is good to remind everyone that it is a hobby and not simply a game. Reading novels, building, collecting, playing with miniatures and creating war-game terrain are all part of the hobby. For a beginner, it is good to dabble a bit with different aspects of the hobby. Play a few games only a few models. Keep up the great video content.
I think the price difference between the starter set and the separate boxes really speaks volumes on how ridiculously overpriced the units are on their own. If they sold those boxes at 50% off, they would still make a profit and people would much rather get a box every now and then. At full price the only things I'll buy are sets with a massive discount like start collecting and skirmish.
As much as I don't like the radical (and imo unnecessary) and kind of poorly written changes to the lore, Age of Sigmar has definitely brought me back to the hobby. The problem i have now is finding time to paint the models but something I LOVE is the fact that now the game scales very well. A problem i had as a kid is doing small scale battles on Warhammer Fantasy. Age of Sigmar on the other hand is perfect just playing with a lord and a small warband of troops, maybe a couple units or just 1, or a full huge army with monsters and a dozen or more units. And the Start Collecting and battleforce bundles are amazing pricewise. The new ones of mixed alliances are neat too for those wanting some mixing and I'm looking forward for what they might offer in the future.
Many thanks for directing me towards this, yet again one of your excellent videos and the first Warhammer book that I read was Blackstone Fortress following my purchase of this fantastic game of which I now have the brilliant Ambull expansion as well, which is awaiting in line for my N&A paint brushes. I’m now Reading the Soul Wars book and like your other excellent videos, reading the books just gives you so much insight, that playing Blackstone Fortress, I forget that I’m in my conservatory and my mind sees past my plastic models and into the AOS universe so much more easily. Regarding push fit, I have glued all my models snipping a millimetre off the locating pins to give the glue space, and also gluing some of the internal joining surface, as I found that the shoulder joins left slight gaps when sometimes coming adrift after fitting, and saving the additional liquid green stuff time and money, I found it easier and more reassuring to glue. Many thanks once again for your info, extremely priceless
As a new player I just wish they would stop shoving Stormcast down my throat. I got into it with my heart set on dispossed and traditional dwarves. Then was left heart broken when I learnes they where left in the back of the hobby.
in 40k, its space marines everywhere. I get theyre popular and make GW their money but I wish all those other factions, specifically xenos and chaos, got a bit more attention.
Great video fella! The hobby does seem expensive before you consider you can buy an army for less than a console, less than a bike, less than golf clubs, less than a mobile phone etc etc. 😂
The AOS app is kept current by GW i remember, when i first got the app for free, that seraphon units could be summoned on every single model, the day GH 2018 was released that all dissapeared because they changed the rules.
just whent to town today and found out about age of sigmar and looked at the models i thought it was 40k so now after 13 years looking into this new game
Cool 😃 I had a long period away from the hobby too. I’d recommend watching a bit of my lore series too so you get an idea what the storyline is all about too 😃
The answer if it is too expensive is actually easy to answer. It is! Concodering the production cost, the miniatures are overpriced, there is no doubt about that. Good video :D
Sigh...why am I doing this to myself...lol. Great video dude. I really don't need a new expense in my life right now but this stuff looks really dope. Im looking for a cheap way in to see if its really worth devoting time and money too. I am a gamer already who buys way too many games so ughh but some of these battle reports on RU-vid look so dope! I am trying it for the first time this weekend!
Recently came back to the hobby thanks to your lore videos. Unfortunately, there's not too much content focused on Warhammer AOS on RU-vid. Keep up the good work ;)
Get into Kings of war , the game is much better and the armies are half the price ( plus there are plenty of players , tournaments , videos , etc etc ) It's Much better then Age of sigmar
Something I'd point out that I found off from your recommendations, is probably the general's handbook purchase. I'd only recommend buying that if you are going to play the game rather soon. And I say this because I personally found myself buying it ahead of having my miniatures painted and ready to play with my friends, and a couple months went by painting minis and all, and the 2017 new book hit the stores haha. So that was quite the throwaway of money. Just saying since who knows if they will do yearly updates of it, but just to be safe I'd recommend buying it when you are about to start playing it, not really in advance.
Really great video I just got into the game super recently after attending a table top expo where they had a wargamming section. I really want to play using the nighthaunt faction.
Another great video Kitetsu! Never before has Warhammer, especially AoS, been so accessible. Free rules. Amazing boxed set deals. This hobby is only as expensive as you want it to be. There are a ton of far more expensive hobbies. MTG is a very easy comparison to make. Sure at face value Warhammer seem far more expensive. Until you consider that your deck that you've so much time and care into creating, is going to rotate out of format every 3-6 months. The upfront cost of Warhammer can be a big hit to the wallet (there are a ton of ways to cut costs in every aspect of the hobby. You just need to look for them. Second hand models, trades, selling bits you don't need, paint sets from other ranges, etc. etc.) but the models that I buy can be used for as long as I want. I've been playing with some of my stuff for over 15 years! Anyways, I think this series is going to be very helpful for interested new players. It's also very helpful for the vets to point newbies to this video series, then we can answer any additional questions they may have.
Thanks froggins :) great to see you still watching my content and I'm glad a seasoned veteran of the hobby like yourself can find some uses for videos like this too. As for costs, those are great points (and stuff I want to cover in my future video). I'm totally in your camp here: the hobby is very accessible and the main barrier is indeed just the upfront costs. Once you have your army, you have it (unless you are me and you want to collect all of the armies XD).
Lol that is our curse. We constantly want to keep buying everything! It helps to have a wife to slap your hand every time you reach for something you don't really need. Looking forward to the next in the series!
0:23 legit EXACTLY what i thought. I used to collect dark elves and i thought i was just too stupid to find those anymore. I thought i could just take my old (10 y/o) models and continue my army... sadly i can't (really)
Search hard for local hobby shops that carry warhammer stuff. There is one close to me that sells all the warhammer stuff 25% off. I live in metro Detroit area of Michigan. If anyone is around there I can tell you some places.
+PigmypuffArmy if you click on my page and watch my sylaneth analysis video I show you my 1000 point army list :) you couldn't go wrong with a box of kurnoth hunters though. Depends how big you want your army but I also love drycha 😆
maybe consider adding kurnoth hunters and/or drycha hamadreth to round out your forces with some heavy hitters? or even another start collecting! box is never a wrong choice in my opinion
Hi, I am playing Warhammer now for a half year and i played Slaanesh deamons in 40k. I also wanted to try AoS once, because I can play them in AoS too and i would like to know if you think a Slaanesh Battletome will come with new Models? Excuse my Bad Englisch I am German
You could always play at 500/750pt games right? I know there's no true warband mode out yet, but do you NEED much more than the start collecting box to play on a table?
Really interested in getting into Age of Sigmar, but I'm very intimidated by it. The upfront cost aside, I still won't know how to play after getting my army, and I'd still be slow and probably need help at least at first learning how the play the game in actuality, and I don't want to ruin someone's game by being a complete beginner. Do GW shops generally do a thing to show beginners the ropes? Or is it just a "you're gonna suck at first, but you'll get there by doing random games" thing? Also, how do you find games, are there generally game nights at the shops, is there an app or a scheduled event?
Do what i did..i bought ironjawz orruks..simple..smash everything..and they have some funny rules. I originally bought into 7th edition 40k and that was too obtuse for me. Cheers mate
aren't only the models the ported over from whfb 8th edition furnished with free rules? The the battletomes with updated rules for the unit, faction rules, and new units are not free. it seems to me if you actually want to play the game, you WILL be spending money on the rules. Not to mention the "General's Handbook" which patches AOS into being an actual game, is not available for free.
i am coming from someone who plays 40k and a friend and me want to start seperate armies. i want to play allaince of death, and want to use maligants, are they any good
Know this video is old, but hoping for a response. I am looking to get into sigmar since my local group is going to. I have a king of brettonnia from my childhood, and he is 400 pts. So cool, start of an army. Problem is, I cannot find any new models to buy. Where do I get them aside from ebay? Also On the battle sheet/warscrolls it does not detail their saves/movement for most models. Is there a universal movement or something? I am very confused with how this is handled. I do 40k and it has a much lower barrier of entry.
Is it a king of bretonnia on hippogryph? The movement is on the damage table. As the king takes more damage he moves less distance. At full health he moves 14”. After taking 3 or 4 wounds, he only moves 12”. This same mechanic is in 40K too. As for new figures in that range, brettonia were discontinued unfortunately. So you are looking at a range that is no longer for sale.
It is a king on a Hippogryph. The movement chart for him was not an issue. I play 40k so the degrading was easy to find, it was the movement/saves for others. Just recently found out that they are on a weird wheel next to the name. As for Bretonnia being discontinued, that really sucks. My club is going to do a sigmar bit in may and if I cannot use models that were used in the past I might not play. I found out that they have rules in a compendium, but that does suck. I just don't know why that happened, and hope it does not happen to 40k. As for sigmar, I might be out now due to that odd business decision. I thought models would always be relevant, but with that not being the case I am just not sure about anything in sigmar to be honest.
+Julian Farnum eBay can be a really great place to buy stuff! You have to be careful though because lots of people buy starter sets and sell the stuff separately. They sell it at an amazing price but often if you tally it all up it costs more than buying the starter set. So it depends if you want everything from the box or not. If you wanted just half the box or a few units from it , then eBay can be your best friend 😆
Kitetsu I got my hands on 1 Prince on Dragon, belakor, give guard, 30 dwarfs, elves, chaos maruders, and a while heap of 40k stuff and scenery for £45. But I agree on splitting the box idea.
Meh.. I just tell new people interested in mini-war-gaming play "Malifaux" or "Bushido" (rules are on the card). (or "40k HoR: Kill Team" if you can decipher and keep up with some of games workshop annoying ass books that get released annually).
No matter who or what is said about this new war hammer, it just down right horrible. the story line is so vague and scattered, old story line was so in depth and direction. also the models look like crap should just play 40k cause anything with armor looks like a space marine. GW has killed the game.
People who buy this shit are like people who buy £2000 handbags, there is simply no respect for money these days. Unbelievable that people will support this and make the positive types of comments like you make here! No idea!
