The sound-reactive version of WLED lets your LEDs dance to sound by picking up frequencies from a microphone attached to an ESP32.
I had a few issues getting the firmware to work so I cover some troubleshooting tips to get you up and running if you have similar issues.

so can i replace the mic with a 3.5mm line in jack. that way i can still get reactive lights, but keep it quiet in the house when kids are sleeping?

Damn man, sad to admit this but after purchasing the recommended esp32 i have had more trouble finding a compatible micro usb data cord. Plz any help with a product link that will actually work would be most amazing! I went through at least 30+ cords that i had stashed that had been acquired throughout many years -plus a purchase of one micro usb data supported cable and a pack of usbc to mirco adaptors from amazon.

If the cable transfer data from your phone to the pc, the cable is fine, I would say. Potentially the ESP is fried.
