What a beautiful find. I can just imagine how happy the person is who passed on something that will give you joy. I am going to enjoy this series. I always marvel at your get it done attitude.
So glad you're planning to gain Mom's knowledge. My grandmother was a similar seamstress and so was my mom. I was lucky to have had them to teach me about sewing and other handcrafts. What fun!
Your cabinet is looking really great so far. I absolutely love the colour. Go very lightly with the gilding wax, my mum used to use it because she painted a whole bedroom set in black chalk paint and the added hand painted Japanese poppies flower designs onto it, then gilded it in bronze and silver in places. She found that if you go lightly, less is more effective and looks better. A furniture restorer friend told her many people go overboard and it tends to look amateurish when you do. Also, if you apply wax don’t choose high shine as it looks terrible on most things, his advice to mum was to go for soft sheen finishes over dark colours for a more professional look. Plus, remember you can always add more, but you can’t take it away as easily if you apply too much.
I do that too! Look up previous owners of things that I've found. Then, sometimes I'll google the address to see where they lived. LOL !! It is interesting. My Dad, was born in Sept. of 1909, same as Alma. He passed away at 90 years of age. He was 47 when I ws born. Love your new hutch!!
I have to admit I'm not a fan of painted furniture (..love the wood look)..however have to admit you did a triffic kob it looks 👍🏼 great! So awesome that your mom is finally coming I know you two will have loads of fun times together .enjoy her company .I missy Mom so much she's been departed from this ole earth for yrs now .I still miss her lots!Love watching your videos especially your sewing ones .are my favorite! You are truly blessed with a wonderful family .so much fun watching them grow so fast😮😮
Exciting project that I am loving. Love the blue. Can’t wait for the next video. Looking forward to “Learning to Sew with Mom”. My mom did a lot of sewing for me when I was 8 years old but then she stopped sewing and never taught me.
Cabinet is very beautiful. I love French country. That’s what I decorate with. I would be adding a little bit of gold around the top and the edges of the door, what a beautiful find the color is very beautiful as well🥰
I am so excited for you all that your mom is coming over. I don't sew but can't wait to see her work! My grandma was a seamstress as well. She made a suit for herself and my grandpa, many other clothes, and used to make my sister and I the most beautiful Barbie clothes. TYVM always for your lovely videos Sophia Hi from SC.😎🏝
@@mygreatchallengeoh I don’t think so but I am an avid Crocheter! That is my passion.😊💕🧶P.S. commented at the beginning of the video and wanted to add that the cabinet is absolutely stunning. My favorite color, anything in a blue shade. 💕😊💙
The curio piece is exceptional. I love watching you repurpose furniture. I recently converted a 10 foot closet with bifold doors into my art room’. I used an 8’ table top on two metal shelf pedestals. I can close the doors when I’m not using it and no one can see my projects.
That's a great idea. I m going to buy a 2-people computer table and put the dressers under. The goal is to have a machine on the right and one on the opposite side (left) so we would be facing each other and each have the same amount of space.
My daughter was due on the 31st of December but arrived on the 14th. Ironically, HER daughter was born on December 31st! (I have so many similar stories in my life.)
I always use clear wax first and if I want dark wax anywhere I add it after because dark wax for a first coat changes the color too much. If this were my piece I would add gold or silver or dark wax on the medallion and other details. Looks nice.
The cabinet is beautiful! I know that street finds are a very useful way to decorate, but in this case, I would have gone more for function and purchased a Billy bookcase from IKEA with glass doors so that I could see all my fabric and not have to contend with the sides of that cabinet. Of course the Billy’s are not as pretty, nor do I have your wonderful vision in decorating….. can’t wait to see more of your sewing room vision.
Billies are too tall for my basement. They do not fit, unless it is the short ones which are not enough storage. I do not need to see all my fabrics to be honest. It's not a "must" for me. But I get what you re saying, aesthetically it s cool (when super organized)
Did you or are you going to line the drawer with the same contact paper? I like the gilding idea. BTW…Alma and I share the same birthday but different years.😊 I’m excited for this series. Sounds like a lot of work, but fun!
