The first time I went natural 17 years ago I braided the front of my Afro and wore the back out , it was beautiful)and I walked in front of my grandmother and she told me that we have come far ,worked too hard and fought too long for you to walk around looking like that. I told her this is what jah gave me. She wouldn’t talk to me for awhile. I stayed natural. And just put MicroLoc in on quarantine 2020. So I am ready for the rejection again. bahahahahahaaa!!! Girl yes! This is my second set of locs so I know exactly what you mean when you say people become hair gurus when you start your locs. Now 4 years later, everyone tells me they wish they'd installed their locs when I did.

This video was really helpful. I"m 3 months in and the first month I really hated my hair I thought I made a huge mistake I was ready to cut them off or comb them out but after a couple of washes, I started to feel better. I still struggle with them from time to time but I'm willing to see it through and trust the process.
Mine were interlocked to start, so idk if that's why I feel this way but I never felt like they looked ugly. Then again I also had hair just below shoulder length (ear length interlocked) and my hair is super thick ( didn't have skinny thin locs at the start, they started thick and just got thicker). I had friends of all races tell me they looked cute and suited me. However I was the type of natural that kept my hair in two french braids 24/7 ends tucked in 😂 so the newly found versatility was a major upgrade. People say ugly stage but I usually never find it ugly. Growth is beautiful.
I really appreciate this video. I’m just 1 day in to my diy microlocs. And right now I’m just happy that I finished them . It took me one whole week and a day. I started mines during this pandemic, because I knew I wasn’t going to have to go into work for a while so I believe that helped me make the decision to start them now because I don’t have to too much worry about what people were going to say. Not liked I cared anyway. But I knew this is a new journey for me and I’m never was big on styling try hair. So this time at home was going to help me get comfortable with the stage of what I do next. I did know I was going to invest in a lot of headbands. So thank you again!
Thanks for this video. I've been locked a week and I have short hair. I knew about this stage and was nervous about it, but figured "forget it", this is my journey and I'm the one who has to accept this stage and find ways to rock it. Once my install was finished and I posted on my social media, it was go time to rock it. What I found was that a lot of my family and friends that are locked, welcomed me to the community and have shown great support and encouragement.
My mom said the same to me when I went natural...I was like what do you mean it's not for everyone , it's the hair that grows out of my head. I thought I was so cute with my baby locs, now I look back at old pictures and cringe.

I have recently started my micro locs from only 3” of hair and it’s also red cause I want my hair to grow out with the ends red and the rest my natural color!! My daughter has the tradition large pencil size locs that she is absolutely in love with!! She’s about 6 months into hers while I started mine 2 weeks ago and I interlock both our heads!! But I can’t wait until mine mature although I don’t want my locs no longer than 12-15 inches long cuz I like the short look over the long look that many ppl desire!! RoseDAnnor I am hoping so. I thought my color would’ve lasted a little longer. I think when I get to a point that I can color it I will feel a bit better about them as it will add some variety to my look.

I'm 2 years in and I'm still kinda in that stage (the back half of my hair is fully loc'd and the front half isn't) so there are days when I love my hair and days when I wish it was already mature. Lol when I first got it done I was wondering what I did to my head 😂🤦🏾♀️ so glad I'm past that. Thanks for the video cause it's shown me how far I've come 💜

And I didn't want to spend the $$$ again, just in case, lol. So I installed Microlocs 2 months ago. I have (maybe) 222! Can't wait to see how they mature. I have fine, low density hair on a small head! 😁
I wanna do locs I’m just soooo nervous. In my mind though I want to do locs cause while I love my hair I feel like locs would help me be more content and less concerned/anxious about the next damn hairstyle. I just want some peace
African Aunties will embarrass you with their comments!!! I went through the same thing when I went natural so that’s why I’m not even sweating the comments I will get when I finally loc my hair!! Can you imagine one auntie told me like a year into me going natural that “now that you’re married you can do something about your hair”.......now they don’t say nothing or give me complements when I wear my natural hair out now 10 years later!!!

I am currently in the beginning stage of my locs. 2 months in as of today actually! (Literally just realized it) lol. But my hair length is pretty decent. I'm really enjoying this stage. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Super entertaining and informative 👏
I am 14 months loc’d I am in that ugly stage sometimes I get tried watching slow growth so I put yarn braids over mines 2 weeks ago plan to leave them in 4 more weeks give my locs a rest for maybe 3 months then put the yarn braids back in this process will keep me from cutting off my locs
It can be trying and frustrating and loooooong! But don't give up, around the 2 year mark is when my locs really began to mature and settle. Before that they go through so many changes. 💓
Them same heifers...!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. It is so true! My sisterlocks are 4 months old so far and I have relaxed ends that are about the same length as my natural hair. When i first got them established a lady at work thought it was her business to announce to the whole room just how bad she thought my hair looked! Smh. Well I started getting positive comments quickly as I washed it and it thickened. She hasn't said anything since then but guess what?... she cut her long relaxed hair in a similar shape to my short sisterlocks! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

This may seem like a silly question but is there anyway to remain in the fluffy Volumous stage as long as possible? I’m not that big of a fan of the long flowing look. I’m really into the locs that look almost like loose hair 😬.

Sisterlocks are trademarked and are owned by a specific company. Only those who's locs were started and maintained their locs by a certified sisterlocks consultant can refer to them as such ❤️
thikathanasnicka if you know how to braid just start yours off as braids like I just did and leave them alone and let them go through their stages....hope this helps 🙃
You could start with two strand twists, braids or interlocking from day one as I did. Watch loads of videos here on RU-vid (I have one talking you through how I stated and maintain them) and when you're ready take your time. There's no rush (that's what headwraps and wigs are for!) I took 2 full weeks to install my own 💓💓
