Getting Wrecked on the High Hunt in Washington State Backcountry!
Do you like hunting, fishing and camping? SUBSCRIBE HERE: www.youtube.co...
Every year in Washington state, a select few backcountry wilderness areas open up for the high buck hunt. This year, co-worker Craig and I set out into the backcountry wilderness to tackle the Washington state high buck hunt and get absolutely wrecked. Nothing ever goes to plan during a high hunt but this was outta control! We made it out of the wilderness alive tho!

In and out that way and have done the through hike like you had in mind. Haha fishing should be way better for how hard it is to get there. If I ever see ya I’ll point ya in the right direction for secluded lakes with big fish that you could try out👊🏼

Hey at least you had fish, I didn't see any deer or bear prints, or even droppings in the Olympic Wilderness where I hunted last week. All I got was a some ripped zippers on my pack and a lesson learned never to pack waders during a high buck hunt. Haha still beats work or sitting around drinking beer watching football wishing you were hunting tho. Hopefully we get our bucks during the regular season, just needing some rain to get the wildlife moving I think. 👍
@CascadeBackcountry
@CascadeBackcountry Год назад
Dang! Not even bear poop!? I feel like I see them shits everywhere haha Out of curiosity, why did you pack waders?? Agreed... even if ya don't tag out, a hunting trip in the mountains is definitely still better than being at work!!!
@sdfree83
@sdfree83 Год назад
I do to, I wasn't specifically looking for it as I only had a deer tag, I packed the waders because I had 4 days off and the plan was to hang out and fish at the campsite. I haven't fly fished since I moved to Washington from Colorado and that was back on 2007 lol
@CascadeBackcountry

There is a high hunt in certain wilderness areas mid Sept! The general season does open October 15th this year tho. I am using a Ruger 30-06 with a cheap bipod, however, I will likely get a new, lighter rifle sooner than later. That thing is HEAVY! I also just kinda use my general backpacking stuff cuz I already own so much of it. Not optimal but also don't have to spend a ton of $$$ on new gear.. even tho I will probably haha Bring on the questions!!
@Longtrailside
@Longtrailside Год назад
@@morgankruse4666 Didn't know about the high hunts. I thought those were for draws or permits, my bad. Thanks for the knowledge tip.
@Longtrailside
@Longtrailside Год назад
@@CascadeBackcountry Ya thats a knee buster to carry. Heard Howas are tanks also. 30-06 is a freakin awsome hunting cartridge. Though the type of hunting that you are doing requires a lot lighter weight rifle like in a short action, something in the range of 7mm08, 308, 300wsm. Get it in a short thin barrel and light as you can stock. Or you could look into buying a skeletalized stock.... maybe that might be the ticket for you.Threaded barrel to eventually put a shusher can on. Though you will pay for that lightness with heavier recoil. Easy price to pay in my opinion, if you are not recoil sensitive. I would do some serious research on what to buy next that will meet your needs long term and for other hunts that you may go on. I had to get a new rifle due to my 30 year old one needed some help, so i repurposed it to be my brush gun. I looked at a number of rifles last year for my last big game rifle. The selection is friggin mind dizzying. I found Browning X bolt to have the most options for the price. Lots of people love tikka tx3 lite, upper end Savage, and Bergara Go shop around and hold the rifle see how it feels. Remember also cheap scopes are heavy and add a lot of weight, so feel the weight of your scope. If you want a one and done pack for hunting/camping and carrying camera equipment, go with mystery ranch marshall. Watch a video on it and what it can do. Feels amazing on your hips and shoulders and tons of room for all you stuff. Buy the bear spray holster and gathering pouches for the hip belt. It will become your only pack you will want to carry.

This is the Mystery Ranch Bridger 65. Can comfortably carry a heavy load. It's not specifically a hunting pack but for my purposes it works pretty good for now.. AND.. I don't have to spend $600 on a new pack... yet haha
