True talk. What they do at the hairdressers, they loc the hair tight, add oil/cream, pin the locks down with metal pins then put you under the dryer until the hair dries. This is like cooking the hair and scalp. I took the smart way out and started doing my own hair and letting it dry naturally, becos my hair is not stew

I wished the stylist would be held accountable for scamming and hurting her. Stylists like her old stylist are going on with hurting & scamming people without facing any consequences - that's frustrating and infuriating at the same time. I hope her hair will come back.

I was shocked that that person had been scamming this poor woman for 20 years, all the money she must have been stolen. So I totally agree and no one has either right to be nasty towards this poor lady, she was clearly scammed and got wrong information about the care of locks.

Ok I’m 15 year old and I have a high top fade with dread locks usually ppl in my generation like to get retwist every week or so I try too tell them to relax cause your hair will end up like this I think ppl nowadays like the fresh looking dreads but the whole point of dreads is for the natural look so for ppl in my generation calm down !!

Yannie I think she may have scarring alopecia, CCCA. The symptoms are that characteristic central balding at the crown with burning and itching. I was diagnosed 2 years ago but with early diagnosis and treatment was able to save my hair. My crown at one time looked exactly like hers. She still may be able to get some hair growth in that area. The good thing is that she can put her hair up and cover the area. The supplements you mentioned I also use. No heat whatsoever on my hair. Low manipulation and I wash maybe every 3-4 weeks. I was like your client washing every week but had to stop because my scalp was so irritated and burning. I’m not loc’ed but loose natural.

This hit me extremely deep, the fact that someone from any cultural background can say "your hair is dirty, your hair is nappy, your hair has to have a certain look, etc..." OUR HAIR DEFINES US. Our hair is culture, our hair is being black, our hair is beauty! no matter how long or short, no matter how thin or thick, no matter how complete or incomplete. We shouldn't let anyone define us, I love my MY hair and love YOURS.

The way the client described the start of her hair loss, it appears to be androgenetic alopecia. The progression of this condition tends to be very slow, spanning several years to decades. It can be caused by a variety of factors tied to the actions of hormones, including some ovarian cysts, taking high androgen index birth control pills, pregnancy, and menopause. The follicle itself shrivels up and is incapable of regrowing hair. Unfortunately there is no cure for it but to treat it early when you first notice the thinning in order to stop the hair loss and to keep the hair that you have. Regular use of minoxidil or finasteride (or a combination of the two) can mitigate the effects of baldness and stop hair loss.

My girlfriend's hairline has been reseding for over 10 years. She had to wear fake bangs. She now has hair growing. She has been using the rice water everyday for over 3 months it looks amazing. My hairline had also started thinking so I got the recipe and used it everyday and after a month I had enough new growth to wear my hair up in a bun without bangs. I would encourage you to try it on this client it can't hurt its worth the risk. It's all natural protein.

This is very unfortunate for this poor lady; i hope there is something that can reverse the damage. One of the main purposes of haviing locs is to not manipulate your hair so much. Leave it alone and let it do what it do. I was retwisting every 4 months but after seeing this video, I'm considering every 6 months.
@miarok3
@miarok3 4 года назад
I have above average hair growth. 12 to 18 inches a year. Even with that I still don't touch my hair like that. With natural hair I realized the less I manipulated it and less heat and product I used, the healthier it became. I am 3 months into my loc journey and the shrinkage is REAL. even in the shower it is only 3 inches past my shoulders and when I started I cut my hair to my shoulders. But even still, I don't touch it a lot. I oil it, put a bonnet on, and wash it and retwist on special occasions. I am amazed that the stylist let her hair get that far gone. Treat ur clients hair like you'd treat your own. With care and attention.

When I had braids I never did my hair that often. Weekly is crazy! Now that I have locs, I definitely don't do it often. Who gets locs to do your hair more often than you would when you have braids? I'm so glad you addressed the dryer too though. So many people shade me for not using a dryer on my locs but I don't put heat in my hair ever. I don't see how putting heat in my hair will help at all nope. People say if you don't use a dryer your hair will rot because of bacteria but I don't use a dryer ever ever and my hair is long and thick and happy. Lol

It’s been past 3 months and I still don’t feel like I need a retwist. I have a lot of lose hair and 4 inches of regrowth. But! I love my hair in my natural state (slightly wavy) and it looks good in my opinion. I’m sorry this has happened to her. There is a difference between a hair stylist and a hair care provider. I was fortunate enough to find a hair care provider here in Brooklyn. I do my hair usually every 3-4 months sometimes more if i had nothing to do, and she only twists with natural oils or butter. No gels, no waxes. It's sad these stylists don't care about the actual health of your hair it's all about the money. And Yes Yannie, you right in Trinidad we didnt know anything about neat or "fashion" locs.

This is cicatricial alopecia. Sitting under a dryer and a steamer too much makes it worse! The stylist should’ve nipped it in the bud once she saw the balding starting to happen. A lot of people don’t even know they are balding until someone tells them. I had a client that she had a small bald spot and I told her, she had no idea and I made sure she used oil to massage the area to stop it then. Ayurveda treatments would help in the early stages of balding.

Thank you for this upload. I am 15 weeks into my loc journey and have decided to not retwist it at least every 4 months. I just wanna let my hair be free and enjoy the journey!!Thank you for this educative video. Lots of love and light from the UK. X
