Given that they Germans hadn't fought the Americans until about 1943, and there was a G41, it's much more likely that it was built to emulate the Soviet SVT-40 encountered during Barbarossa, rather than the Garand.
@weasle2904
@weasle2904 5 лет назад
Yes this is true, the G43 copied the SVT-40's gas system. However Germany's ally, Japan, fought the Americans earlier, and the Japanese even tried to make a mechanical copy of the M1 Garand. EDIT: Despite what the uninformed Wehraboo below me says, German and Japanese cooperation definitely did exist. And in fact the Japanese based many of their tactics on German doctrine. Which actually ironically kind of became a mistake most of the time. For instance Japan copied Germany's paratrooper tactics, which as we all know were pretty terrible at the time before the Germans revised it.
@kurtmostat8491

Japanese and German cooperation is much less in-depth than people think they actually did
@sergeireischel1610

Yeah, "japanese", of course Some people can think literally of anyone just to give no credit to famous russian arms designers. Gew. 43 has a gas mechanism copied from SVT-40 to replace the unreliable one of the previous model - Gewehr 42

Germans started fighting the Americans in North Africa in 1942.
@laserprawn
@laserprawn 4 года назад
@@happybeingmiserable4668 Sure, in the middle of November, so sure, I'll grant you about +40 days in 1942. The first real fighting for the Americans was at Kasserine in Feb 1943. And to put it in perspective, Kasserine saw the Americans and Brits with 30,000 men losing to a German/Italian force of 22,000 men. Around the same time the Red Army was fighting the Third Battle of Kharkhov, against 70,000-130,000 German forces, with the Red Army also losing despite deploying 210,000 men. That should make you think about one thing - the crack German forces were on the Eastern Front at the time.

The rifle was issued with 3 magazines. One in the rifle and two in an Ammo pouch carried on the soldier's left side. On the soldier's right side was the standard K98K Ammo pouch carrying 30 rounds in 6 five round stripper clips. The soldier could then load a magazine into the rifle with the left hand, keeping the right hand on the stock, the release the bolt so it could go forward. Using the right hand one could load 2 five round stripper clips into the 10 round magazine using the stripper clip guides on the receiver.The rifle came with a scope rail and was also used as a sniper weapon. The STG-44 soon replaced the G-43 as a replacement to the K98K. Good rifle for sure.

Charles McCarron how can I describe? Heart of Europe, tiny state, horrible house prices. If you'd like to own a firearm, you'll need a reason. Either it's collecting (you have to say what exactly you'd like to collect), or sport (you have to join a shooting club!) or for hunting. It takes 3 month to get your first permission and one month for each new request. Oh and never use it for self defense. :-)

+Charles McCarron Freedom doesn't equal owning a gun. Maybe you shouldn't comment on countries you've never been to and know nothing about it's culture or laws. Luxembourg is pretty much the safest country in Europe, and the smallest. As for me personally, while I am intrested in fire arms and can own them, i'd not feel safer with one in the house. Nor do I entertain the illusion that i'd need one to stop my government from oppressing me which seems to be the case with a lot of people in the USA. I think freedom means more then owning a gun, the freedom to think what you want. live how you want, say what you want. I don't see the need for weapons anywhere in there unless ofcourse the democratic process has failed and citizen have no say anymore.

I have a nice matching AC-44. I don't shoot it ,but I had one in the '90's that I used to shoot .Fun.Very little or mild recoil. Yours looks like it was "Duffle Cut" ,where about 2inches was cut off of the stock to fit into the GI's duffle bag. Real nice program.

The original German ammo I once had in the 70's were powerhouses! 195 grain steel core bullets in a steel case. It would penetrate into the water jacket of an engine. The hunting loads we found back then seemed a bit watered down compared the original 1943 loads.

If every Nazi infantryman had these from the start, I often wonder if some later battles might have turned out differently. WW2 fighting was very close in man to man combat. Having to operate a bolt action in such scenarios must've cost many a life.
@keith2860
@keith2860 3 года назад
@Wayne Gale in my opinion probably not, the battle of stalingrad was won by superior tactics from the russians and the incompetence of the germans. the russians essentially flanked and cut off the city and isolated it from any german contact. once they did that they essentially just had to deal with the germans that were left in the city. although its no doubt the G43's semi auto, lightweight and shorter design would have suited the battle slightly better.

Elegant? Not really... It was a design that was outdated years before it was introduced, and was stupidly complex for a semi-auto, like most WW2-era German equipment. Regardless, it does look beautiful and is probably a joy to shoot.
@zac4434
@zac4434 6 лет назад
Bruh it's perhaps the worst weapon of WW2. The weapons are so overgassed that it'll crack the bolt. The receivers are poorly heat treated and the metal is rarely even finished. Just because it's German doesn't mean it's good.
@claudyfocan731
@claudyfocan731 5 лет назад
Zac the idea was good. They didn’t have the production capacity to finish their guns properly. Still very impressive that they produced this gun. Look at the Mg34, it’s a piece of art 👌 the ones made before WW2 were extremely well made!

@@zac4434 I'd like to have one just to have one. I might not ever shoot it but it would be a nice addition to the collection as I'd like to be able to acquire all the main infantry bolt action and semi auto rifles from WW2. Probably won't get them all but if I could get a few I'd be happy. You're right on the Gewehr 43 though. The rifle is nice but I watched a documentary once and they said some G43s were so rushed in production that the bolts would break because they were cast and not finished properly. The one Hickok 45 is a nice one, but if I were to get a G43 I'd probably hang it on the wall as a display.

Back in the early 70s I owned 3 of these jewels. The most remarkable thing I remember about mine was how far the rifle flung the spent case after firing. It must have been 30 feet or more! Every case I fired ended up bent at the mouth. I was fortunate enough to have an endless supply of WW2 German steel core ammo for it. What a power house those original cartridges were! The rifles all had a distinctive aroma to them too. Lucky you for being able to handle one now!

The gewehr 40 and 43 were direct responses to the Germans fighting the Soviets. They had captured many svt-38 and svt-40s and were impressed by how well they functioned in cold and dirty environments. The Germans hadn't had much experience to this point facing the Garand. So it would be inaccurate saying this rifle was designed due to the success of the m1 Garand.
