This may be the best gear demo I've ever seen, well..heard, and I watch them all. The Pixies especially made my day! Thank you for putting so much thought into your arrangements for songs. It is appreciated.
This pedal sounds so amazing! I love how it stays out of the way and has just the perfect level of ambiance beneath the playing. I haven't heard many reverb pedals that do that and do it well. And presets to boot! I have to get one of these. Great playing and arrangements on Strawberry Fields and the Pixies tune, btw.
Wow. I work in a music store and overheard this coming from our guitar department, I walk over to find out what awesome tunes were playing and it ends up being a tech demo? Great stuff!
Amazing pedal. Eagerly looking forward to the V3 Specular! Mr Hermans, you are the best. The tones with the running ticker descriptions...so helpful. I'm already thinking of so many options of these GFI pedals, being able to stack this or the V3 with the Specular Tempus. Or, the V2 with the V3 for uber-lush one of a kind reverbs. Wow. I've been looking at reverbs for 2+ years. You've helped me greatly, sir. After 30+ years of guitar playing, you're breathing new life into my options! Blessings!
I just listened to a fuzz demo of yours then this clean reverbed one. awesome playing and saturated in emotion/feeling. amazingly versatile/sounding pedal too
I have this pedal and absolutely love it! I wanted the big sky, was actually previewing them before I came across this. Don't get me wrong, when I have some money I will get one and test it out. But, it will have to be pretty impressive to beat my specular. The specular sounds very natural and musical. I have tried to make it sound bad by maxing out everything....still sounds good.
its nice how the shimmer effect has been improving over the last few years... the 1st one i heard was not my cup of tea. oh, great demo as always ! i have a Bigsky so unfortunately can't rationalize buying this.. the bigsky sounds sweet too.
Well, the BigSky is the Grail of verbs but it's too big and complex for many users. This Specular2 seems to have better shimmer than the Immerse and it's well priced, IMO. I'm still looking into the BlueSky... but I can't afford both.
I've been very tempted by this, but a very long distance for shipping...I wonder if they'll get a US distributor. I think the shimmer on this is one of the nicest sounding of any reverbs out there--very tasteful, not overpowering.
One of the best shimmers for sure. With level and damping, you get subtle to crazy. Set it subtle and hold the footswitch and the octaves get louder. Awesome!
Sounds like a great pedal but seems overpriced. No expression and no USB port for updates/modification. MXR300, Neunaber would be cheaper options. Flux Liquid Ambience and Strymon only a little more. Would like to hear a shootout of the Specular with all of those just listed.
I agree it seems overpriced. But then if you get any of those you have listed above, you will find out why. Sure, the Big Sky is much more versatile, but in the certain area the specular2 shines - it has no competitor..
Mark Emmerton Obviously you've never played or owned any of the pedals on your list. I own then all except for the MXR and Specular absolutely crushes them. The sound quality is unparalleled and yet organic and natural, unlike Strymon which sounds fake in comparison. The Liquid Ambience is interesting but is more or less a one-trick pony. The Specular is way more lush, has presets and many different atmospheres. The only limitation is your playing ability, not the pedal.
ElephantTusks The studio quality sound is where these seem to differ. I've sat with a Strymon and had fun but when I tried to play it with a band(and with od) the sound had to be extremely wet to feel it. I came back to listen to this after hearing the Tempus. Do you play yours with a full band? Or more for studio settings?
CorbCorbin I own two of the Tempus models in addition to the regular Specular Reverb v2. Also both Strymons, H9, Meris, Flux LA Stereo, amongst others. I have not used anything in a band context yet. The music I write is very drone/ambient inspired, hence GFI is perfect. It can do everything from subtle to completely washed out with infinite decay. It is my opinion that this is one of if not the best reverbs on the market. I collect since they all offer different features, but GFI is a mainstay. The only reason you don't see many around is based on the limited distribution. I had three of the SRv2, sold two and have one left. One friend absolutely loves it, the other apparently found it too complex and preferred the Red Panda Context and Neunaber Stereo Wet.
It is a great pedal for sure, with all the stacking options and slots. I love it. But, its best part are modulations and delays. Reverbs are not up to this, not even close. But still, you can get very ambient, just without this kind of fidelity and detail.
