I have the 40 on the gfx as well. iq is definitely behind the native glass, but it's a really nice small option for an additional focal length in my bag.

All my other lenses are massive. With the EF 40 on my 100S and the L-bracket removed, it's as close to stealthy as the camera can be. It's perfect if I'm meeting up with people and don't want the spectacle of a large 'professional' looking camera. It makes the GFX almost discreet. And the IQ is there.

If I put this lens on my 6D the whole thing can fit in my cargo pocket.

I have this lens for my R8. Doesn't get much use, but its size makes it great for a backup. It did a great job when I was at the Robot Restaurant in Tokyo.

Great review of a lens that punches way above its weight, literally. I also had the EF 40mm and used it with my 50s and 100s and it worked very well. It is slow focusing, as you mentioned, but given the cost and its size, it was really a good lens and image quality was surprisingly good. You can tell that, by using the past tense, I no longer have the lens because I also have the GF 45mm native lens and I simply like it more and don’t mind the extra size. If I didn’t have the 45mm, I definitely would have kept the EF 40mm.

Is the EF 40mm much slower than the native GF 45? What makes me consider buying the EF 40 is the min. focus distance which apparently is only around 25cm if I remember correctly?
@jonathanbush1936
@jonathanbush1936 7 месяцев назад
I’m not sure about the mfd, but, to me, the focus speed difference between the EF 40mm and GF 45mm was noticeable, although not dramatic. I remember the 40 being a little “talkative” as it made more noise while acquiring focus. And to add another data point, I used a Techart EF -> GFX adapter on the 40mm lens.

@@jonathanbush1936 Yeah I remember having this lens on my 5D mark III and it made these adjustment noises. Although they say the STM motor should be perfect for filming, I can't see how :D

Love this lens! Another pro of the Canon 40mm is its very short minimum focus distance compared to the Fuji 45mm.

Love the content, hopefully you can keep it coming. I personally love the Sigma 135; I actually bought it twice when I moved from Nikon to Canon.

It’s a nice lens I love using it on my gfx 100 and 100ii . Perfect for instagram reels and for my paid job adult videos with good lighting is very nice lens. Although I much prefer 32-64mm for sharpness. But hey 40mm pancake is such a small setup.

Just out of curiosity...Why 1/160 ss? With the IBIS being so amazing on the GFX, why not shoot at slower ss to keep the ISO down?

Thanks for this video, Ely. It was really helpful. I’ve used the 40/2.8 on my 50Sii and was quite impressed. I’m sure it also makes the whole GFX100 II package easier to carry around for the day. Any chance you can do a video on the EF 135/2?

There should be one sample image in there with the 135mm. I'll be keeping my eye out for a good used copy.

Nice video! Just recently bought the fringer adapter. How did the autofocus perform compared to the native 45mm ?
@ThePhotographerGuy
@ThePhotographerGuy 7 месяцев назад
The 40mm itself is slower to focus. Most EF lenses are faster to focus than GF though.
@bryangoldbergphotography
@bryangoldbergphotography 7 месяцев назад
@@ThePhotographerGuy The EF 35mm f/1.4 (with the Fringer adapter) is incredibly quick on the 100ii. One would think it's a native lens.

@@ThePhotographerGuy I am quite impressed by the AF on the new GFX 100 II. Obviously not as fast as 'fullframe', but its pretty good. And if you are saying the canon is quicker than GF, that would be epic

Congrats on getting a good take for the video, haha. The lens looks like an interesting option. Do you ever shoot with auto ISO? It's something I've recently started dabbing with and it definitely helps avoid those high ISO/high shutter speed shots.
