Money from the government is not like money from an individual pocket. I have a property on the Nsawam road, and I am still waiting for my compensation. It is not premises if it is not built yet. It is just a lot.
The rail land has been there since Nkrumah’s time. Some people are in the habit of building close to roads, rails and even on government properties. They deserves no compensation if the land was marked for rail lines before the erection of their houses
Please reporter! You never asked the people whether the land is earmarked for the railways. Both parties, the district assembly and railway company have appear to have slept big time on the job. Compensation can cost about minimum 10% of total project cost. The problem with the project planners is that they do not normally cover fully the cost of Compensation. Donors too not interested in covering compensation, so invariably provision for such is inadequate. Meanwhile, the government who must top up also delays in compensation evaluation riddled with corruption.The real human cost of development tragic. So sad , yet has to be done for the greater good of the country.
WHY COMPENSATION TO THEM ? THE LAND BELONGED TO GRLY CORP. IS IT NOT HERE THE PREVIOYS RAIL LINE PASSED ? YOU CANNOT ENCROACH GOVERNMENT LAND AND EXPECT PAYMENT.
