Rapper Domino made one of my favorite songs of the 90s that I almost forgot about until Lady Lex suggested it. Thank you! Domino was dope. Still had a nice career where he could travel and do his thing, but what happened to his career after "Ghetto jam and Physical Funk"?

They sound nothing alike....and Nate Dogg did not come out in the late 90's bruh...he was on the Chronic and Snoops album that you were just speaking of in 92-93 (not to mention the BIGGEST hip-hop song in 94 Regulate by Warren G and NATE DOGG).......lol TF you getting your info from? lol

I came to the comments just to see if I was tripping. I'm 41 & I remember those times well! I never heard of no such comparison. Maybe somebody like Ice Cube's boy, Kay Dee or Dru Down could've been compared to Snoop. But if anything, Domino would've been compared to Nate Dogg, who was a prominent figure in the rise of Death Row & that G-funk sound that they were known for in the early 90's, prior to whatever StuntedGrowth was referring to in the late 90's.

Nelly & Ja Rule benefitted greatly from the hook driven sing a long records. Domino suffered from the same thing Das EFX & Bone Thugs did, people copying their style so much, fans grew tired of the originators of the style.
@dianevrules

Domino actually abandoned his signature style on his 2nd album. Plus Battlecat didnt produce his 2nd album or any after. Thats why Domino fell tf off. No rapper in the history of hip hop sounded like Domino. Not Bone, Nelly, Nate Dogg, or Ja Rule. They were just rapping melodically.

If you think creating music is for people who are young, you probably will never make it as an artist. There's no age limit on making music and having a career in music. It's all about your image and how you present yourself to your audience. There's still a bunch of rappers that's well in their 40s and 50s that still create music. KRS One just dropped a new track that was hot. It's all about how you present yourself and your delivery. The music industry is afraid to indoctrinate older rappers in the mainstream because it represents growth in Hip-hop. They want to keep it a young person's game. They want people to feel like by the time your 40 years old, you've missed out and have to find another profession.
@the4thtribe709
@the4thtribe709 2 года назад
If you have a fan base that was with you when you started and yeah you’ll stay relevant but let’s be real it’s mostly for younger people for example where is Madonna, Janet Jackson? KRS1 is not as popular now as in the late 80s early 90s. There are exceptions such as snoop Jay z too short to name a few but those are rare. Rap and the music bizz is a young person sport

@@JSmithRecords and it's crazy how original, stylish and charismatic they were that they never got any big features. I would have loved to hear them collab with outkast, timberland , Pharrell, etc. I can't think of one major act they made a song with and they were from newyork. Their stylemwas.pretty much the epitome of that city

"Nate Dogg, who came in the game in the LATE 90s a DECADE after Domino" Come on bro, you gotta those timelines right. Nate was featured on the Chronic in 92. Regulate came out in 94. Nate was in a group with Snoop and Warren G, 213 before any of them found fame.

I still listen to that Domino album to this very day…I’m 42 and YES I’ve heard articles and reviews bash him back then for being similar to Snoop. I’ve always argued that comparison. Their music was nothing alike. The only similarity is there Long Beach swag. Warren G’s flow was the one that sounded Snoopish. At any rate I think what stunted his growth was lack of showing diversity. A lot of his songs sounded the same. With all that said, props to you for this gem.

Warren G sounded similar to Snoop because Snoop wrote and produced Warrens first album. I mean the entire thing.

The long Beach swag Exactly 💯 and I don't know why people didn't understand that like they from the same place so of course they'll be similarities. Like in Queensbridge with Nas, Mobb deep, Tragedy and the rest. Sometimes they kinda sounded the same but that because they're from the same place

Domino was actually on the first bloods and crips tapes…Cuz from LB 20s n was originally bangin on wax before Snoop came about. I thinc that’s why he took the more “melodic” route afterwards, he gained more fame n attention as an artist.

Nate Dogg was there when the Chromic dropped and whe. Snoop Dropped singing hooks '92 '93 and the popularity of Regulator with Warren G also '93.....you can't act like Nate Dogg showed up in the late 90s as an way to bolster your argument that Domino was before his time...his style fit the early 90s perfectly....he just wasn't part of Death Row which all but drowned out everybody else in SoCal.

Honestly Slick Rick layer the foundation for Snoop and Domino, and Domino inspired Bone. Also Nate Dogg came in the game with Snoop and Warren G. He was singing on the Chronic, which was before both Domino and Snoops debut.

Snoop was in a group with one of the Twinz, one of the members of Foesum, and Domino, before 213. Nate was only on Deez Nutts on The Chronic. Actually, Kokane first album came out in 1991. 2nd II None album came out in 1991. So they were the first singy rappers. Bone Faces of Death album came out before Domino's first album. Slick Rick wasnt singing.
@kinginc2000
@kinginc2000 2 года назад
@@dianevrules Actually Domino album came out before Bones Faces Of Death, Bone on Faces of Death cd were not melodic, and were more so boom bap. Slick Rick did sing, he did all his choruses, plus (Hey Young World). Nate was also on alot of tracks for the chronic that didn't get released. He was on 2 tracks on the chronic, Little Ghetto Boy and Deez Nutz. Kokane and Nate kinda debuted the same time, Kokane debuted on ATLs Black Mafia Life, also before Domino, Kokane, Nate and Bone. You had Jungle Brothers and Digital Underground. Alot of groups in the 80s harmonized. Including Fat Boys, Kurtis Blow, Stetsasonic, Biz Markie, and countless more.
