Few little details I caught. Some of the escaping ghosts during the third act were modeled after the toys and designs from "The Real Ghostbusters", Ivo Shandor was the big bad in the video game, written by Dan and Harold as a sorta sequel to the first two movies, the zombie in the diner was sculpted to look like the taxi driver in the montage of the first movie, the mini staypuffed man that melted on the barbeque gave a thumbs up like the T800 in T2 and the three marshmallow men burning in Ecto-1 at the end of the movie were made to look like the original when his face got melted

I saw Ghostbusters Afterlife today and it is SO GOOD! It’s such an amazing tribute to Harold Ramis and his character Egon Spengler. The ending was so touching it made me cry. There are so many callbacks to the original movie, and I love how the soundtrack is almost identical to the original movies score. AND THE ORIGINAL GHOSTBUSTER ACTORS COME BACK FOR THE MOVIE!! They all played their characters so well, I was overjoyed to see them play those roles again. And Phoebe acts just like Egon Spengler, and Podcast is kinda like Ray and the whole movie is just AMAZING!!!! I am definitely going to see again as soon as possible. If you stayed for the credits, there is a song with words "ghost never leave a haunted house." It was co-written and performed by McKenna Grace, aka Phoebe Spengler. Didn't sound like her and sounded like a much older person, but that just shows how talented she really is. She plays 12 in the movie, and is now 15. She was awesome in the movie Gifted and she was great on Young Sheldon where she played a girl who was smarter than Sheldon. She's been in a LOT of things already, and always does a great job. I loved how she made Phoebe remind us of Egon without being a caricature. Carried the role and much of the movie. Kudos!

Still trying to figure out whether or not you like this movie. I noticed a whole lot of shade being thrown at it. I haven't seen it yet. Spoilers don't bother me. I'm sure I'll enjoy it regardless because I like the cast. I think it'll be fun to see the kids discovering all of this stuff for the first time. What I will say is that some of the things that you refer to as callbacks I think are actually organic and necessary because it takes place in the same world, the same timeline and we are in the House of one of the original characters. So I think it's only natural that when he moved out the country he brought these items with him, including the proton packs, the suits, and the car. All of these things that we are referring to as callbacks you could say for any sequel. Because they are sequels and take place in the same world and our continuations of the same story. So naturally some of these same elements will be there. As far as the similar plot point, I can be on board with those and I can see why you might have an issue if all they did was recycle the story from the first movie. There is a difference between recycling a story and continuing a story. I will be curious to see if they get rid of Gozer once and for all, that's including the story from the first one.
@misterdarwin
@misterdarwin 2 года назад
(SPOILER) I think it fair to say the characters and tone are perfect, but they play it too safe by lifting the Gozer plot from the original. I liked it a good deal, but would have loved it more had they cooked up something new besides the kids.

The Easter egg everyone keeps overlooking is the first scene in which we see Egon, mostly in silhouette. The actual sound design of the cyclotron in Phoebe’s repaired pack also has a slight unstable “flutter” to it, on the first test with Podcast, which is appropriate as it was a 30 year old pack and it’s possible some of the parts that were replaced may not be in perfect shape (or Phoebe put them in wrong or not fully seated, but still, not bad for a first time fix on a piece of hardware she never worked on before) The flutter appears to be gone in the next scenes, indicating that she probably tweaked it a bit or found good repair parts.

Wait...with Ray's post credit scene, did they intentionally break the movie so the next generation can rebuild it? They got the tools. They got the talent
@dannytom8525
@dannytom8525 2 года назад
Is that the original firehouse in the post-credit sene, though? The blinking light of the containment unit does seem to suggest so, but it was also said by Ray when talking on the phone to Phoebe that it was bought and turned into a Starbucks. Also, does anyone else find it strange that Callie's mother is never mentioned? Kinda felt like maybe Janine could be her mother? Hence the mid-credit scene of Egon and Janine having a moment.
@MephProduction
@MephProduction 2 года назад
Egon had a lot of photos of his daughter to someone much have passed them on to him, so if Janine was her mother i'm pretty sure Callie would have known lol It was funny that everyone in the move was shocked to here Egon has a family because that's how fans/audience reacted. But the first i film was a big vague on details too.

It just starts in my country today. Love it. Great call backs. However, may I corrected you a bit? We knew the mom was Egon's daughter because they said she inherited it from her late father, (assuming we knew it was Egon in the opening). The only thing that didn't make sense was that Egon didn't get trap with all the other ghosts.

Nostalgia is an effective and valuable tool. It can and should be used to supplement a story if there’s a good opportunity. I think of it as being similar to using music to accentuate and heighten emotions. A swell of music during an emotional climax in storytelling can turn a scene iconic. A well-written story would be good without music, but the addition of music can lift it to perfection. Music can be misused or overused, though. If a scene isn’t strong enough, adding in emotional music can just feel cheap. You see it for what it is: a distraction to cover up shortcomings in storytelling. Compare the first Suicide Squad movie to the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Nostalgia is similar. Of course they should have proton packs and ghost traps. Those are an essential part of Ghostbusters. They need to be part of the story. You also have the benefit of established emotional connections to these things, so that works in the story’s favor. But the story should be what’s most important. Nostalgia should serve the story. It becomes cheap when the story is just there to serve the nostalgia. There were many points where I felt that Ghostbusters: Afterlife came up short on quality storytelling. Instead of creating new moments _to_ remember, it gave us things _that_ we remember. If none of the other Ghostbusters movies existed, and this was a brand new stand-alone movie, would anyone really care? With the exception of Phoebe, the characters and their character development just weren’t that great. Stranger Things used a ton of nostalgia, but it also had some amazingly great characters that people fell in love with. That’s what made the show so good (Season 1 at least), and that’s at the core of why it became so popular. Ready Player One also utilized a ton of nostalgia, but isn’t revered because everything else about it sucked. Take away all of the callbacks in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and you won’t be left with much. Because there really were so many of them, the movie would have maybe a 30 minute runtime - and that 30 minutes would be mostly underwhelming. I do love the Ghostbusters series, and I am a sucker for nostalgia, so I thought Afterlife was fine, but I was really hoping for more than just a Greatest Hits album.

Cujo DID have supernatural elements, IF you read the book. They were omitted in the film. His only non supernatural story, that i know of, was Colorado Kid. It did lead to a supernatural themed tv series called Haven, but i dont believe it's available on VHS... which was the point of that scene. The school is still stuck in the 80s... the movies are probably from the teacher's personal collection or POSSIBLY from the local library, which is one of the few places to find them (outside of thrift stores, but he's a state paid teacher and probably not going to waste his money on entertaining kids for the summer.)
