😊31:00 I am pretty sure you didn’t notice it, while Peter was irritating Kamal, the flame in the background kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger, which means he knows they’re connected somehow. (Now I understand why)☺️
You think Phoebe becoming a ghost was a stupid idea for her to have, but hey, in the first movie it's said Egon tried to drill a hole into his own head. Seems a Spengler type of thing to be 'stupid' with science.
High intelligence, low wisdom sorta move. Combine it with the feeling that her entire world is crumbling around her, the feeling of being betrayed by her family, being barred from what is her passion, her already poor social skills, plus the trials and tribulations of being a teenager and it's believable for this very intelligent character to do something really stupid.
I❤ The Original Movies, These Last Ones !I even kind like the one Melissa McCarthy And Chris Hemsworth As A Weird Goofball Was One Of My Favorite parts! 😱🤣🥰👻🎶💃🎛🖥
9:35 Cannibal Girls was Ivan Reitman’s third movie he directed. 27:58 Trevor trying to catch Slimer was an abandoned subplot from the second movie where Louis was trying to catch Slimer in the firehouse. Slimer is part puppet in this movie. Kevin Mangold was Slimer’s puppeteer.
When I saw this at the movies, I realized that their were a lot of cross-references to the animated series and to the toys, like the Possessor animating things (the Pizza, etc)
I saw this one at the cinema and really enjoyed it. Loved the RGB feels with the prominence of the firehouse and janine in uniform and such. And loved the performances from the old and modern casts. :) It might be my second fave movie in the franchise just above Afterlife. :)
Sometimes Greg, a movie is a just a movie. I know sometimes having 1m subscribers, you wanna reach for more, but this is just a good ole fashioned movie...
I enjoyed the movie despite its flaws. For the next installment, I believe it needs stronger writers and directors who can better balance originality and nostalgia, as well as a good mix of horror, action, and comedy. The movie would benefit from a more stronger villain who isn't just a one-off but has multiple battles with the Ghostbusters. Additionally, the new team needs stronger character development, and the original Ghostbusters should have a stronger send-off. It could also incorporate material and characters from "Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed." Finally, it would be great to see how the Ghostbusters have grown as an organization since "Frozen Empire" and how they handle paranormal activities both within and outside the United States with the success of defeating the Death Chill.
That’s what I loved about Afterlife, they had strong, character driven story. Here it felt written by a program, we need to do this thing, then this thing, then this thing, etc
I think this movie would have benefit from the cast losing. Instead of rushing the ending have them lose, all the ghosts get released and then the follow up movie is a huge ghost battle in NY and you get time to flesh out the side plots a lot more.
Agreed, they have amazing characters played by amazing actors, plus these newer ones, especially James Acaster, really came across well in this universe. As much as I love the originals, its time to pass the torch which this movie set up perfectly. Keep Slimer around, have Winston in a scene or two because he's the funder, maybe make a call to Ray but keep it small callbacks.
@@blissfullycat02 Slimer needs to be a member of the group like he was in Real Ghostbusters despite his impulses to eat. New equipment and weapons that can finally help the Ghostbusters defeat physical supernatural being. Different monsters and entities, myth and legends for them to deal with.
Check out the comic book run, that takes place between Afterlife, & this movie. Ghostbusters Back In Town. Artwork is a little 'cartoony' for me, but has still been a great addition to the ongoing story...🤓
Honestly shocked this one got the lukewarm reaction it did. It’s the piece of Ghostbusters media I’ve enjoyed most since the original film, and the ONLY film where I’ve actively wanted more after it finished.
Yes that WAS a real Ghostbusters cereal commercial!!Almost every popular ip had a breakfast cereal deal (ThreepiO's,Mr.T,Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles (Flintstones),Smurfberry Crunch..)Good times!🤣
The reason they need to protect Containment unit is that when dickless blew the unit in GB1 it punched a whole between dimensions and the only way to keep it closed was to keep unit active
Cluttered. That's the word that comes to mind. A lot of it works on its own but taking multiple scenes that feel like pausing the narrative to deliver exposition (Patton Oswalt's whole scene) don't provide any glue (like how Sigourney Weaver plays off of Bill Murray's weird misogyny so well in the first one). But it is great to see 'Ghostbusters, Inc' working under Winston and back in NYC (the 2nd film is unabashedly a fun 'NYC film').
The reason it feels so disconnected is that the people hearing the exposition do not deliver this information to the people finding all the relics in Naveem's apartment. We are told about the horns because it was in the trailer that BBEG would put them on his head. Instead, it should have created tension, e.g. in that the protagonists try but fail to keep the horns from him.
"how could there be so many non believers" -- greg, this is america, half the country doesnt believe a pandemic happen. you expect everyone to believe in ghosts? even caught on camera??
GB4 aka "Frozen Empire" filmed in less than 2 months (impressive). It was meant for Christmas 2023, but was pushed back. In following the events of GB3 aka Afterlife was so much fun. Taking it all the way back to NYC where the legacy started. The cast of veteran and newer characters together, the storytelling, the sequences, the effects are pretty good. This is a legacy sequel to the fullest with the 40th anniversary is around the corner and so many more homages and nods to the franchise. Especially the first 2 films, The Real Ghostbusters animated series and the 2009 video game. I missed the showings in special formats and would've been fun to see it in either way. Can't say too much about the future of the franchise as the official convention for GB has announced a lot more on the way. But i will say that bringing it back to glory and still showing love for it has been something.
😊 I’m not sure if anybody can help me with this, but I’m trying to remember if they had said that Ghostbusters frozen Empire was actually supposed to be longer and they chopped it down because the studio wanted a shorter movie
These two taking guesses if slimer was in the candy pile and me who watched the trailer knowing what was coming from the first drop of slime out of the ceiling lol
A lot of these guys criticisms are things that were clearly and plainly explained in the film but they just weren't paying attention or it went over their head.
They literally say the explosion Peck caused in the OG film that blew a huge hole in the building is what caused the firehouse to be the location of the rift. It wasn't plot coincidence. They literally explain it plainly and show the newspaper article about it in the scene Andrew. Maybe if you paid more attention instead of looking for references. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you critique something.
Honestly lol always so focused on spotting a reference that they miss entire plot points - like how he was just so hyper focused on Bill Murray and the damn hat they used in the first movie they missed the fire being connected to the anger of the guy, same with the hotdog carts flame going crazy when he left Rays office Also while I’m ranting these guys need to cool it with being hypercritical of everything. Its a ghostbusters movie not The Godfather take a chill pill and just enjoy it.
Jason and Gil rewlly wanted this to feel like the real ghostbusters cartoon. They used as many practical effects as thry could for this. Trying to keep links to the originals. Slimer was a physical puppet prop.
Much like Afterlife, this movie was made for people who spend the whole time looking for call-backs and references. In other words, it's perfect for Andrew.
This movie was pretty good. But I think they could've tightened it up a little bit. There were a LOT of unnecessary callbacks. And the whole deal with Peck and the police shutting them down, probably could've just scrapped all that. There was enough going on, they didn't need to drag out the main plotline.
the scene at the beginning with the people melting to pieces, Adam Savage showed the process behind it, with the guy who built it: they stacked a lot of small parts meant to break away, with a harness of wires running inside. pulling the cable, the mid points of the sculpture break, and it crumbles. basically the same thing done in demolition, but for a sculpture.
In the 80s, part of our "future" was told to us to not exist. We were oppressed slightly (it was old hat to us by then) by the threat of nuclear war. We were told it was inevitable that the world would be destroyed in our lifetime.
Great reaction Greg and Andrew! 😊 I saw this movie once while it was in the theater. And I enjoyed it. Loved some of the call backs to the original first movie. The highlights being seeing Slimer and the return of William Atherton as Walter Peck. And of course seeing Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Annie Potts back alongside the Afterlife cast. And I liked the addition of Kumail Ali Nanjiani. As much as I enjoyed this movie, I enjoyed "Ghostbusters Afterlife" a bit more. And of course, I love the original first two movies. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
It's incredible how divided the reactions I've seen been. Critics and reactors have been so mixed to negative about it, with some (ie. Double Toasted) just outright being like, "Fans, you're being fed bullshit, and for whatever reason, you guys are falling for it." But then I talk to friends and colleagues who have all seen it, and they're all ecstatic about it, saying "It truly is for the Ghostbusters fans." Maybe that says it all?
The best idea I could see now for this franchise going forward is to do a TV series now. Maybe a 8-12 episode season that could lead too a 3rd movie. Then we could get them hunting down some ghosts that escaped while hinting at some big bad evil that also got released or something for the movie. Or some big bad that is taking notice of the modern day ghost busters.
My main real complaint with Frozen Empire is that... really, if Phoebe hadn't done anything, everything would be fine. Granted, tall, dark, and horny was orchestrating things to happen, but it still ends up being a lot of things lining up just right, 'conveniently'. Otherwise, I rate it as good relative to Afterlife as GB2 was to GB1.
I found this channel when needing something to have on the background while working... Safe to say I have procrastinated so hard in the past week with this channel alone. I'm here to stay. Subscribed. HARD.
"He was only around for 15 minutes!" And Gozer was around for like what, 1-3 minutes in the first movie? Like the first movie, even though the villain wasn't in for very long, he still had a commanding presence and was a high threat.
I'm sure another person stated this (not 100% because I don't want to read 200+ comments): All the commercials for Ghostbusters merch and novelty foods are 100% real (I even remember enjoying the Ecto juice cooler from Hi-C.)
If you are comparing this to the original, then you are doing it wrong. They literally stated this was a throwback to the animated series, and it accomplished that. I loved it.
What's funny is that Cannibal Girls was on the marquis in both GB2 and Afterlife. It was also directed by Ivan Reitman and starred Eugene Levy, who had a cut cameo in GB2 as Louis Tully's cousin Sherman. How did I NOT catch the 'Harold' bit could have been a reference to Harold Ramis?
It's a movie about ghost its not to be taken seriously plot holes don't matter nothing has to make sense that's the enjoyment of watching Ghostbusters movies
A bit late but: They aren't saying the firehouse is a natural gateway and the Ghostbusters just happened to pick it as their HQ. They're saying that its a manmade gateway by them, accidentally. In Ghostbusters 2, they accidentally blew a hole between the other world and this one they're basically guards at the gate now.
We’re only a couple of movies away from slimer being a friend. So the kid in me has to say yes. Let Trevor feed him and have him watch tv in the next one, and then the one after that he can talk and be friendly with the team.
Not every character needs an arc in a movie. Afterlife, in the title, is the story of Egon repairing his relationship with his family in the afterlife using Phoebe as a vessel for his story by having her connect to him and finish his mission. Now Phoebe is getting her story - she was good at the Ghostbusting from pretty early on in Afterlife, so it makes sense that movie 2 would bring her down when it was no longer just a small town that'll look past her causing damages. She got cocky and caught up and melted her wings. (Plus Afterlife was directed by Jason Reitman, and Jason wrote for both of these. The fact that Ghostbusters has become a series for a father and son to explore makes me excited and I'm hoping Jason takes the director's seat back for the next one.)
I do not think that Gregg tried to give it a chance since he made up his mind pretty early. Talking about Phoning (like the comment about Bill Murrey ;) in a performance. You guys should try NOT to think about, you having to rate it afterwards, since you start being critical too soon and stop enjoying. I unterstand the Teen moves, Teen are pretty hormone driven. It is not a deep movie, it is a Comedy/Horror/Thriller. I really enjoyed it, and it did have a lot of call back which I allso enjoyed immensly. Thanks for watching it with us.
I think Afterlife was wonderful. I loved every second of it and couldn't wait for the sequel. This movie is "fine" enjoyable and effortless but not on the level of the first or afterlife. I'm still here for a new one though.
I think most of us would be extremely content to get a Louis Tully ghost in Central Park.. Just as long as Louis Tully was in the film in even the SLIGHTEST capacity.. That has been the only thing these last two movies HAVEN'T given us.. They've given us today's updated technology for ghost busting & capturing & new Ecto vehicles (like Ray's Ecto-C bike). They gave us closure with Egon's spirit & his family & the OG GBs last movie to deal with Harold's death.. They've had numerous call backs to the other films & animated series as far as ghosts go, from the Terror Dogs, Gozer, Stay Puft, the Library Ghost & now Slimer becoming friendly with them & living at the station like he does in the cartoon & with cameos from people like Walter Peck, Janine (even in UNIFORM like the cartoons, mind you!) & the NY library manager.. Even Dana Barrett came back & got back with Peter! Literally the ONLY thing they HAVEN'T given us is Louis Tully in some form.. Which has really bummed out the true GB fans.. So I would be happy with him as a ghost.. Although it would be hard for Louis to get locked out like he always inevitably does if he were in ghost form..😉🤣🤣
The ghost fire from the ghost match being the key was a fantastic way to tie things up. This film did get a number of things right. But it was still kind of all over the place instead of picking a direction and staying with it
@@bloodredrobot2613 i don’t believe anyone ever said that was the plan. in fact Phoebe’s actress McKenna said people can interpret how they want and she sees where people are coming from but that she personally believes they’re just friends. this is just me picking up on what i (and apparently a lot of others according to letterboxd lmfao) interpreted the subtext of their relationship to be. i’m speculating of course, and it’s not like it needed to be a major plot point or anything but i genuinely believe it would’ve aided the story if they had said it was a crush that made her act so rashly. certainly doesn’t have to turn into some grand discovery of her sexuality or something lol but i would’ve liked if it was just depicted as casually as they showed Trevor’s crush on Lucky last film.
@@bloodredrobot2613 oh for sure 😅 but just saying, i think literally killing yourself and a turning into a ghost for the sake of…being nearer to? better understanding? potentially being able to hug? a girl you just met and are kind of infatuated with without any sort of game plan just because she asked you nicely, is the most tragic baby gay shit i’ve ever heard so i don’t think a crush is super far fetched lol maybe a close second
Patton Oswald's wife was my crush back in the day in DREAM A LITTLE DREAM VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED & LAKE PLACID. He's a great actor in KING OF QUEENS & JUSTIFIED
It absolutely got too much flack. I definitely understand that there were a few too many references to the OG's and many people said they wanted to continue with the new cast rather than hitch onto nostalgia but they are planning to do another one and the 2021 version was to introduce the Egon's, Lucky and Podcast, this was to introduce some more and send off the OGs. I think it was perfect in that sense. I think they plan to go forward with mostly the newer ones with a scene or two of Winston (since he's the boss) and maybe Ray so I can see it being good because the backing storyline was so good and original.
😊1:15:40. Hey guys, so the quote was not that they were there at 90% of the movie that they were there 90% of the shoot. So although it may not look like they were there most of the movie I’m sure onset they were shooting everything with them all at the same time and then once that’s all done they were gone and then to be honest from the look of the film the scenes that they were not With the original crew were very short and didn’t look like it took up a lot of time.
Trevor isn’t wasted lol. Not every character needs to have deep development. Character actors have been doing secondary and bit parts that are crazy memorable or useful with minimal focus. Hyper criticality is so exhausting.
i havent seen this one yet and your reaction is my first time seeing any of it. it does feeel like they tried to cram a bit too much in but im actually still looking forward to it.
I loved the first two! The new one in 2016 was hella meh to me, but the afterlife wasn’t that bad, & I am going to check this one out after I do the reaction by yous🎉
I thought it was alright. Definitely thought the last one was better. It was definitely another nostalgia kick. I did not think that Podcast or Lucky were gonna be in this since the movie is in NY and Lucky's dad basically hates the crew. I DID enjoy how many people they were able to bring back and all the references. I gotta agree that it felt like it didn't know what it wanted to focus on. I enjoyed it but it is definitely a once every couple years movie. Should they make another one? I don't think so. They ended it in such a way that there is a ton of ghost busting to do but there doesn't feel like any stakes exist. They defeated 2 gods and an Evil Warlord. Where do we go from here?
I agree, I like the film, more than most it would seem, but I think there is too many charters. I think Fin and Lucky should of been dropped, and the space created for maybe a bit more of Podcast and the girl ghost story.
I absolutely love Ghostbusters and I did love this movie...the bad thing is, they cut out so much stuff. If you watch the trailer more than half of it wasn't even in the movie. Could have been a amazing movie but so much was cut out
guys as kengan fans we need to make more tiktoks or shorts about kengan fans learning and getting good at martial arts and imitating kengan characters to match against baki fans working out to getting buff. My fellow Kengan fans, today we rise against those who belittle us, who claim we are mere spectators, watching fights without ever stepping into the gym, waiting passively for a new season of Baki. To them, I say, no more! We shall not tolerate these insults any longer.
The trailer was misleading and the ending was anticlimactic but overall it was a fun time Afterlife is definitely a better movie but this was a bit more fun.
You guys should react to the other Ghostbusters movies. 22:24 Everyone was excited about the son of the original director coming in. I wonder why they got a new director for this movie. This movie was entertaining and started strong but it had a lot. 1:13:48
The reason they changed directors was his dad had just passed away and it’s was all too much and too heavy for him to drop back in. The last time he directed was with his dad. The person who directed this one was a writing partner for both of the new films so he wasn’t brand new coming in.
