I've played the original when it came out in 2009, and I've been playing this remaster for about an hour now. And I have to say, I absolutely love it. 30 bucks isn't a bad price, game takes around 8 hours to beat. Depending on your difficulty. The remaster looks fantastic, especially on the Ghostbusters faces. I strongly disagree with the 6 rating. If you've never played or have played Ghostbusters The Video Game. Get this game for a new experience or to replay Ghostbusters 3. :) this is the 3rd movie, just in video game form and the last time we'll ever get the original Ghostbusters all together. RIP Harold Ramis, very nice what they did in the beginning of the game to remember him.
Thanks for the comment I've been really looking forward to this game and the review almost turned me off. I remember back in 2009 this game had incredible graphics...
@Gezzs Yes you absolutely should buy it! It's Ghostbusters 3, just in video game form :) I'm sure you'll love it. It's super fun, and always adds something new in each level!
A new Ghostbusters game with an open city where you receive calls and go to do the missions you choose driving Ecto-1 to get paid would like a dream come true. A mix between this version and the 8-bit game.
Well, it’s 2021, and it’s still on steam. I’m definitely gonna grab it, especially because of what has become of Ghostbusters games. Sucks that this game never got a real sequel, I really wanted it to.
Sorry but I completely disagree with the difficulty assessment, I played it on the hardest setting and while it was certainly challenging I never felt it overwhelmed me. The games combat is pretty easy, also super satisfying. My favorite parts were when there were multiple ghosts so idk why the reviewer wanted it to always be 1v4. Partner A.I. is garbage totally agree with that though.
I wish someone would make a follow up to this, I always thought using The Real Ghostbusters cartoon as a base for a spiritual successor would be a way to work around the loss of Raimis and Bill Murray's lack of interest. Plus Lewis and Janine became Busters in the cartoon, so the possibility of having a squad of six is there.
This is the only real Ghostbusters 3. It really won't be topped.. and now that the actors are dying and getting super old.. its too late for a movie. This really is the best we will get, and omg, its a damn fine game!
@@Erlaxis Great point. When i played back when it came out i thought it was a 3 bears happy medium. Not too easy that you get bored fast but not so hard that your frustrated like its nintendo.
I beat this game back In 2009 when i was 13, if the game is too hard, just play it on easy. Simple, give a 10 year old game a 6 score, yet its the best Ghostbusters game ever, and one of the best video games based on a movie. This feels like you're an actual Ghostbuster, tagging along with the original crew. This is Ghostbusters 3
@@Assassin199410 Sounds like you're just a fanboy of ghostbusters. He clearly states in the review that it's still a problem on the easier difficulties. I played it back in the day and it was a swimming in 7's kind of game to me.
@@GFSCN69 Games that have older mechanics, shouldn't be a negative, it's a remaster, not a remake, it's to upscale the games resolution for newer consoles. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game, if people were expecting changes to the gameplay, combat, AI, you'd be mistaken. Because that's what a remake does, like with Spyro Trilogy, Remasters just upscale the resolution and frame rates.
I really enjoyed the game when it first came out. I genuinely enjoyed everything about it. I can't help but wonder what the other Allies think of the game. Damiani seems like an odd choice to review this game in particular.
I’m not going to lie here. I absolutely love your guys’ reviews. I typically follow your words on if I should pick up a game. I have followed you guys since gametrailers. But I have to say. I am disappointed in this review. Yeah. It came out 10 years ago. I loved it then so much. That I still play it on my Xbox one x. But I have to get it I think for the switch. Just gotta wait on a review of that one. But come on guys. You were a little harsh on this one. Especially since it is only a remaster. If it was a remake. Sure. I could get behind it. But I am still glad they are releasing it again. Especially for the fans of the franchise. Thanks for your review and please never stop. You guys are awesome.
Uncharted 1-3 remaster fixed things like the clunky combat in Uncharted 1. Remasters don't have to be just a typical upgrade of the graphics and frame rate, better remasters have been released on the past and will do so in the future.
I think this review is more based on the quality of the remaster than of the actual game tbh. And this is probably a poor remaster that's why it has a 6. Not that big of a deal tbh.
Kind of a weird choice to have Damiani of all people review this since he doesn't like shooters and seems to mainly only care about Nintendo or FFXIV. Something tells me it would've at least been a cool 7/7.5 if Huber or Jones had reviewed it since it seems a few of his criticisms were more personal problems of his since as people in the comments are saying that they aren't having any of his problems when playing the game.
This is not worth more than a 6.5, although i don't agree with some of the content of the review. The game does contain poor level design and game design in general but it also has better mechanics than what the review makes you believe. At 30 bucks it's an absolute fraud, though. Yakuza Kiwami is a full remake, a much much better game and has new content and that was priced at 35 bucks. The Spyro Trilogy same thing, THREE full remakes with no new content priced at 35 bucks.
This is my favourite video game of all time, it was my first video game ever, played it numerous times, i was I think, 6 or 7 when I got it and played it for a whole year
I agree with most of the comments here, either this remaster borked some element of the AI or you just had a particularly bad playthrough of this game. It doesn't seem like a representative review (at least of the original) at all.
Seeing as it's Damiani reviewing it I'm gonna go with it was more something on his end than the game itself. But since it's Damiani he will never admit when it's his own fault and call anyone who brings attention to it idiots.
Gotta disagree. While it’s not perfect it does have good qualities and is basically the same game. The stuttering is a problem but the rest is still amazing. I don’t feel like this review covered all the bases
Remastered is not alway the same take gta s.a remastered no one can beat because it buggy like alot but everyone can beat the old one and they took away co-op for some reason
I remember buying the Ghostbusters HQ in Playstation HOME... Me and my friends had a blast in there for like 15 minutes... Worst 20 bucks I ever spent.
I played the original last year (I think) and I didn't have that many issues with the AI, but I can see where you coming from. There were some frustrating moments when no one revived me or me running around pulling the others up. My biggest problem was the final boss. Dropped FPS to a single-digit couple of times during the fight. I played it on PC and when running you steer the character with the A and D instead. of the mouse, which was weird. Despite the score, I think it still worth playing.
I know the game isn't perfect, especially after starting to replay it, but I still think it's a solid game, and a must for any Ghostbusters fan of course.
I've never thought I'd see someone praise the 2016 Ghostbusterettes and bash the 2009 Ghostbusters game. In the same sentence. That was stunning. And brave.
Actually, looking forward to playing this with my 5yo nephew who is currently OBSESSED with Ghostbusters. I didn't even know it was being remastered--until I saw this review!
If your nephew likes Ghostbusters & you're looking for a game to play together, keep an eye on a Steam game called Midnight Ghost Hunt. Still in alpha, but it's got a familiar premise.
Dude, as a fan this is one of THE BEST, faithful games EVER. Sure, generically speaking it's certainly not a great game, but it's so damn faithful that it COMPLETELY makes up for that if you even only care a SINGLE bit for the Ghostbusters franchise!
Aged like milk and the remaster is bad? The game was decent back when i played on Ps3 but i don't see how it could've got better with time, plus another money grab remaster with barely any effort as always.
If you play it through your own tv, you'll see the difference. The game looks much more sharp. And I believe they're redoing the multiplayer as a free DLC in the future. Plus, only xbox one had backwards compatible, not PS4 or Switch. This is a fantastic game and is Ghostbusters 3. Nobody should miss out on this. Plus, rebuying it isn't a bad thing. Just like how they do with movies. They resell them all the time in different packaging. You'd be surprised on how many people buy the same movie over again, if the picture is better. It's also a way to support this game more and the Ghostbusters. This is the 10th anniversary of the game to.
"Thankfully the series has been revived with new and upcoming films" sounds like a positive endorsement of Ghostbusters 2016, which is enough for me to ignore this review altogether.
Oh good god, still getting upset over a forgettable movie 3 years after the fact, get over it. Besides it's probably in reference to the next Ghostbusters movie in development which is a legit sequel and not tied to the 2016 movie at all.
I haven't played the remaster but the original. I don't agree with the criticism regarding gameplay and difficulty at all. Unless they screwed up the remaster this still remains one of the best games based on movies.
Did you play the original version? Clearly not. Did you think they were going to completely redo the cutscenes? It’s a remaster, not a remake. And yeah, the AI isn’t great, so put the difficulty down. Your review is exactly why people shouldn’t take reviews seriously. All you did was complain. And you complained about stupid things.
Honestly i agree, your review was pretty bias in my opinion, i been playing this game since it came out to now, the game is an 8 at most, still have some flaws but its great on it own
You obviously played the original and are obviously biased. Perhaps the game just doesn't live up when played without nostalgia 10 years later? It's alright to like a game despite it's faults and it's okay to even be nostalgic about games you enjoyed. And also, reviews are opinion pieces in the end, so what you find to be complaining about something meaningless could be very meaningful to someone else. Also, you seem to really take reviews seriously if you're letting this review get you so bent out of shape. Just find reviewers and sites that seem to align with the kind of games you enjoy and parts of games that you prioritize over others.
Damiani, I think you are a great reviewer and have done so many great reviews in the past but I don't particularly think you should have reviewed this game. This game is more of a shooter and as you have echoed in the past, that genre is not really your forte or of your interest. This game does get really intense especially in the graveyard fight you show multiple times throughout the review but I don't think the game is too hard and I completed it on hard. The combat and amount of upgrades and gadgets you get are really fun and well-thought out. I think this is one review that you put the rating too low and I'm someone who fully agreed with 7.8 back in the day. Love you man and the rest of the EZA!
Games shouldn't be reviewed only by people who like the genre/series/brand. 7.8 back in the day is an average meaning that Damiani today rated it like some people rated it back in the day.
@@Ayoul I'm not saying they should, Damiani wears his taste in games on his sleeve which is a good thing. Even taking that in to account, I don't think he's a great reviewer.
@@IHeart16Bit FYI, I wasn't replying to you. I also lean more on the side that he writes reviews well, but doesn't have the best critical thinking when reviewing games if that makes sense. I do agree with this one here though.
My remaster won’t play.. the cut scenes at the very beginning start and stop .. the disc isn’t scratched .. deleted and re uploaded.. I don’t know why there is an issue with the game on my Pro.. am I the only one ? Update.. the game plays great.. looks good.. but that intro still starts and stops .. with my pro sounding like it’s internally trying to explode from reading the disc during the intro
Game works perfect now .. must have been still trying to download while trying to play it right away.. haven’t had an issue since the very start of it with the cut scenes.. on the site I saw everyone had the same issue as well during the same part
@@umphreak9999 Yeah, be chill dude. I think Damiani would rather the EZA community be all about love and respect rather than everyone agreeing with him 100% of the time. Yes men are no fun, disagreeing is kinda the basis of Hall of Greats. - L & R!
I have to say I found this review insulting to those who enjoy this. Yes I know this is a remastered of a old game and yes I know that a lot has change in ten years as far as gaming is concern. But from the way you talk about this game, even though you gave it a 6, sounds more like you were going to give it a 2 or 3. As long as the game is fun shouldn't that matter. Yes i admit it has some frustations parts but honestly it doesn't break the game for me at all. I am going to get the PS4 verison tomorrow and the Switch version on Halloween along with Luigi's Manion 3. You have your opinion and that is fine but I feel this remastered should have at least gotten a 7 or 7.5 at most.
I am just giving a honest opinion which I am allow to do. Also I never said I had a problem, insulted yes but not having a problem and while I didn't like it I said they have a opinion and that is fine. Next time try reading the whole thing not just the top part.
It's a valid way to make a remaster review, I think. But I do think that the whole story about this game includes the people willing to play (and pay) again to experience it once more. There's a completely different view on that front that was completely missing from this review, and that's fine, of course. Reviews are very personal perspectives.
This game got so many great scores 10 years ago, now that gaming has changed. They gotta Lower the score, isn't that stupid? That's like lowering the score for the original movie because the effects aren't that great like today. A remaster is just to upscale the game, not to remake things or change stuff. It's a higher resolution to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the game and because this game is fantastic. It's also a unique game aswell. But uniqueness is not good to alot of gamers, just like how Death Stranding is getting alot of casual gamers complaining. Sad
@@SaturnTubes Funny how you disagree, because this game is a classic and keeping it the same, is a good thing. Especially for people who never played before, gamers today are crazy with what games they want, yeah the game is 10 years old but it plays great and it's super fun. There's nothing to change. Remasters are only to Upscale the resolution and frame rate. Remakes are to completely built thr game from the ground up like Spyro Trilogy or Crash Bandicoot. Anyways, there's nothing wrong with both remasters or remakes. But i see alot of gamers getting mad over remasters when they shouldn't be. Think of it as Blu Ray upscale, thsts literally what it is. What do blu Ray's change from the dvds? Audio and Visuals. Remasters do the exact same thing. Mostly visuals and frame rate though.
Yeah, 10 years ago. Games have changed and evolved over that time, they shouldn't have to adjust their standards back 10 years to judge a game that comes out in 2019.
@@umphreak9999 So by that logic, I guess Mario 64 should get lower scores today right? What about GTA San Andreas? Or Red Dead 1? Just because gaming has evolved doesn't mean the older games are bad, Ghostbusters Video Game was made in 2009, things were different back then. I guess you wouldn't wanna play Pac Man because the gameplay is super 1980s. Right?
@@Assassin199410 That's clearly not what they mean. Not all old games have dated gameplay. Otherwise all remasters would get low scores on here. But some feel more dated than others and if you want to know how the game holds up in 2019, here's the review for that. If you just wanted to know how it held up in 2009, go back and read those reviews.
This was awesome back then, this is awesome today. The closest thing to Ghostbusters 3 we ever get (even if they make another movie, this will always be the real GB 3) The dialogue, comedy and soundtrack are spot on, the voice acting is fantastic for a video game. I have played this on every platform multiple times. If you aren't a Ghostbusters fan this is an OK and fun game, if you ARE a Ghostbusters fan this game is a treasure, a must have and it will not disappoint you!
Don't get me wrong, I know it's presumptuous wanting to dictate them what to review and what not - but this, yet neither Code Vein nor AI: The Somnium Files? I mean, those games definitely are the bigger commitment and I know the review-schedule for the allies is probably packed. Still feels bad since those games would deserve the attention alot more imo.
They did - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_uYIwnYsE0Y.html It's just that not all of GT content was saved on the official channel. Especially some of the older pre-Viacom era videos from before 2010.
NON-remastered version looks incredible still, especially if you can increase the resolution. I have a GTX1080 and maxed out the settings at 5120x2880 and got a solid 60FPS (so far). I watched a high-res Remastered version review and I can't really tell the difference. I'm sure there is, but I can't justify paying more money despite liking the game.
Literally nothing except the Epic Store exclusivity to make more money and to prevent the costumers to receive any discount for owning the original on Steam like it happens with every other remaster.
I own this game for six systems, I've never had any of the issues that you've talked about. Either your console you played this on is full of dirt and dust and is giving you terrible frame rates, you need to play this again on a console that isn't suck so much. I had no issues capturing ghost even when there were more than two types on the screen.
There is something surreal about how this game was meant to be the closest we could get for a movie.... And now Afterlife is a real thing, and even gives this game some nods
Absolutely loved this game back in the day. Rarely play though a game more than once but I'll make an exception here. My only complaint is Murray's kind of phoned-in performance. Oh and some rather odd difficulty spikes.
This game is fun as heck! Is it dated? Yes, it is. But I loved every moment of it. I felt like I was transported back in time when I played it. I bought this game 2 times. The first time was when it first released 12 years ago, and then again for my Nintendo Switch. It’s such a great game to play while on a long flight.
Sorry EZA, totally disagree. I have it on Xbox one x and it’s great. Movie crossovers are usually rubbish but this game is better than actual ghostbusters 3 movie (2016). Not that that would be difficult. It’s a worthy sequel to the original 2 movies and that’s the key. They did a great job with all the important details included with care. Yeah it could use a gameplay upgrade but getting these licenses (bill Murray hello?) probably means they had to say it was just a republish in HD to get it signed off.
From the tone of the review I was expecting a 4.5 max. However I am one of those people that think 5.0 / 50% is an average game and then you subtract or add marks from there to get a final score. This distinctly sounds like a below average game from the EZA perspective.
Where is the Code Vein review? It came out like last Friday. But I can still wait because I'm not a fan of Gamespot's way of how they reviewed the game and gave it a very negative score... 🤔
I feel I'm still going grind through this solely out of fondness of the series, just as I did with Godzilla PS4. Looked authentic as hell and was a perfect homage to the series, but it was horrible as a "game" by being closer to a Godzilla movie simulator.
well the AI in the original was pretty braindead too, I was hoping to find out how does it fare against the original, specially on pc, I guess I'll have to wait for comparisons
I don't know if there was a patch or something, but I played it on Switch and had almost zero problems getting through it in a day. (Those kamikaze angels can kiss my ass though) I loved it, though, so a 6 feels...really weird.
I watched my 10 year old son spank this game on ps3 2 years ago on hard. He didn’t have a hard time and it looks like I see the same issues in this as the other versions. just take times to figure it out. Probably hard to do that rushing out a review
I never played the original but I must say this. As fun as the game can be it is incredibly frustrating a lot of the time as the AI is completely inept. Like I never played a game where I felt like I literally had to babysit my AI teammates. Like they simply can not stay alive and I end up having to revive them way too often. I realize this is a 10 year old AI but still theres no reason for it to be so incapable of handling itself.
Snowcone Guy Of course not. But heard that there were levels and thus dialogue not used in the original release that was not finished. That is what I was referring to.
I love GB. I have the PS3 one. But This ""remaster"" lack of the DLC and Multiplayer. It feels like playing the same PS3 GB game on a 4K TV. I will wait for the new GB movie. Maybe they will add a DLC. And then Only then the game will be worthy buying.
That's the trouble with critique; once a reviewer decides if they enjoyed the subject or not then the whole conversation is inevitably steered in that direction. Such a binary choice should not decide how the review is formed on the page; rather, find a more balanced approach.
I hate reviews like this wow talk about inconsistent its like 2 differnt people gave the review one who understands what the game was suppose to be about and the other who expected some AAA action from a game remastered from 120 years ago.
I don't know if it's fanboyism or nostalgia, but it really seems like people in the comments remember this game as being much better than it actually was. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it or that there isn't some good aspects, but it's not like Damiani is being particularly harsh here. This is a flawed remaster of a less than excellent game. The original game received 6's even back in the day.
@Chris Cantrell Depends what you play, but I mean, to me it's apparent just in video form how dated this game is even for a remaster. Companion AI have greatly improved since 2009. 3rd person shooters control much better now than they did back then.
