imagine that, people and focusing on detail instead of CG and focusing on quantity. miss those times. Nowadays they think they include alot then show the scene for 2 seconds.
While this scene plays very much into the gonzo spirit of the Ghostbusters team, it really makes no sense. With all those police officers and other law enforcement on the scene, they should have been working on evacuating the entire area not merely cordoning off the street. These men were there to hold back an ancient evil not play at a rock concert.
Always felt the same way. Loved how they showed all New Yorkers, no matter what background or religion, knew that they were in trouble and all came together to support the Ghostbusters.
@@etv29 Everyone came together..all religions...all citizens of the city gathered around, fearing the end of the world is coming. They needed The Ghostbusters more than ever..and they arrived.
The whole city at this point is on the Ghostbusters' side and actively cheers them on when the supernatural starts to invade our world. THAT is my favorite part of this whole thing! You the viewer like the Ghostbusters and so does the city!
I always wondered if it was having the city on their side that gave them the edge. Like... the faith of all those people gave them some extra metaphysical mass as it were... then again maybe I've been reading too many urban fantasy novels.
One of the most emotional and greatest scenes in movie history. With the support of the citizens of New York, the Ghostbusters prepare to go to war with the most deadly enemy they have ever faced in an effort to stop the extinction of humanity and the world.
This scene alone is better than the entire remakes. The Ghostbusters being escorted by NYPD and the US Military because no one else can stop the ghosts but them. Absolutely bad ass.
That's your problem. I suffered with the same mentality until I realized there are people out there being real Heros. For Real Saving the Day. Now go out and save your own
What I love about these characters is that they almost knew that they weren't heroes just winging it but they were the only ones with any clue about what they were facing and the stones to go in and have a go so they almost played it as a parody of heroes but walked that line so perfectly so they were not completely goofy and relatable but real and the new yorkers were just panicked and searching for heroes so they fed into that narrative
As much as I love this movie. Hell no. Not even close. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Godfathers, LOTR, Pulp Fiction, Shawshank, Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Back to the Future, A Space Odyssey, etc.. You get the point
Forrest Gump, Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, Apocalypse Now, Goodfellas, ChinaTown, Lawrence of Arabia, Jaws, The Breakfast Club, Fight Club, The Shinning, Rocky, The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park, Rush Hour. I love this movie. But best it is not in my opinion. I feel like there’s so much more
I spent this Father's day with my three year old watching Ghostbusters all day long. He's been running around the house with a flashlight Bustin ghosts. I couldn't be any more proud
This was one of my most memorable and favourite scenes from the REAL Ghosbusters film. No CGI and a practical realistic earthquake effect. This movie truly is one of the best masterpieces out there and the reboot is more pathetic than the sequel to this amazing movie.
The second one is really underated. It needs some suspension of disbelief, like how most people were convinced that ghosts are a hoax, but other than that it's pretty good.
@@bubbythebear6891 The second film was certainly memorable for having some iconic scenes like with the courtroom and the Statue of Liberty walking. Plus Harold Ramis. May he rest in peace.
@@bubbythebear6891 To be fair, even nowadays, people seem to be brushing off every supernatural event with cries of fakery. The human brain can be a very rational thing when it wants to be.
As everyone else has said hundreds of times before, this scene is one of the greatest scenes if not the greatest scene in the entire movie. The crowd cheering, the sirens and police escort, the funny line from Peter at the beginning, the epic music, it all adds up to the perfect “the heroes are here” scene. Not every hero needs special powers or a cape, sometimes all it takes is 2 serious scientists, a scientist who acts more like a game show host and a guy who wants a steady paycheck all equipped with unlicensed nuclear accelerators.
I'm not going to jump to conclusions just yet. I know nobody asked for this rehashing, and every retread has been an abject failure, and Kevin Feige is big on being a hit or miss director and the effects were a catastrophe of ass.....ya know, I think I just made every logical argument against it. I guess I will just save my money for Suicide Squad.
Gotta love ole Ecto as hes being escorted by those cops at 1:10. BRILLIANT piece of cinemaphotograhy from one of the GREATEST movies EVER. Love Venkmans acknowledgement for Ray also. "Dr. Ray Stanz, the heart of the Ghostbusters. Would ya please?" Rays all modest and kinda shy about the crowd. Great movie from probably the best decade for films.
The shows were maybe not as or as often technically sophisticated, but more were an escape for about 2 hours. They could do more silly junk like Howard the Duck and The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. The early '90s had some of that, too.
I had the film's soundtrack on tape (remember those!) and, for me, Saving the Day by Alessi was the song that made this film even more epic. The way it seamlessly blends in with this scene is pure poetry in motion.
1:20 I don't know if it was intentional but I've always fucking LOVED, ever since I was a child, how ECTO-1 screeches at the EXACT same time that the brass section plays that last note! SO COOL! Sorry but even 25 years on (from when I was a child) this scene HAS to be one of the most epic scenes in movie history!
@@matthewurban7031 that's how great movies use to be..... u got hidden gems and they weren't planned.... my favorite Ghostbusters were Ray & Winston( Im black to so u know im rocking with Winston)... Peter's one liners are legendary & Egon ( u will be missed) was always there 2 get the team back in line..... Who ya gon call?!?!?!
Making a movie work is extremely difficult because it's a collaborative process. Ghostbusters stands as one of the few where EVERYTHING worked together perfectly: the performers, writing, music score, songs, sound & visual effects, costumes, cinematography, production design, etc. There is not ONE element that doesn't work with the picture as a whole. It really speaks to the direction of Reitman. He's the one primarily responsible for making it what it is- a perfectly executed film.
I remember as a kid, when I saw the black smoke coming out of the top of the building, I asked my mum "are the Ghostbusters going to be ok". The answer ofcourse was a resounding YES.
It's an ensemble cast that isn't competing with each other for some titanically trifling little nothing the way movies are now days. It's the first buddy flick I ever saw, and to this day colors how I interact with my friends, and what I even look for IN friends.
HotaruZoku The awful "remake" was doomed from the very beginning, because their entire motivation for making the movie was for a political agenda. They took an SJW feminist agenda and then slapped on a horrible movie around it. Whereas the original movie was just about making a good, entertaining story with funny, well developed characters. Also, Ghostbusters is a legendary classic, and no one asked for a reboot and no one wanted one. It was doomed to flop. And it did, majorly...Sony-Columbia lost a ton of money on it.
wolvieguy yeah, sadly I don't think we'll ever see a decent one. The Tumblrinas permanently ruined the chance. I guess there might still be a slim chance at making one if it was the right producer and director who actually respects the original movies, but the problem is that Harrold Ramis is gone now and the other guys are getting up there. They would have to find a way to explain Egon not being around anymore. I think it could actually work well if it was about the original characters starting to train a new team, in kind of a "passing the torch" thing. That's actually what fans wanted.
I was born in the middle of the 80's ( 1985) The best Hollywood movie decade it ever was, the 80's gave ous such great movies as the terminator, Alien, back to the future, home alone, lethal weapon, ghostbusters and many many more!!! Love them all!!?
Epic scenes like this from an all around epic film is a testament to why the reboot failed. You don't remake a film and try to ride the coat tails of its predecessor, then further try and tell the fans that the characters in your remake are now the new Ghostbusters and to pretend like these guys never existed, and then insult them when your movie flops. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddemore will always be recognized by everyone as being the true Ghostbusters, that's just the way it is. And during Halloween season such as now when radio stations play the Ghostbuster's theme song and it asks "who ya gonna call?" It refers to and always will refer to these Ghostbusters.
They build the whole front of that building for when the ground swallows them. It's so good you can't tell the difference. ...Sorry I'm a huge GB nerd and I listened to the commentary on the DVD.
I always loved this scene, "Come aaaaan lets run some red lights!" *bangs the door* Engines on the convoy all start up and rev as they begin to move out, the sirens start......and above them all you CANNOT miss Ecto 1's distinctive whining ensemble above the rest! :D
i love this scene as well. you had all of new york city rooting for the ghostbusters. punks, break-dancers, priests, pastors, rabbis, clerics, cab drivers, policemen, military, firemen, anyone who loves new york city. we need that more than ever.
Man I could watch that few seconds when the chorus comes on and you can see the police cars and Ecto 1 coming down that street over and over and over again, gives me chills.
Apparently he was a make-up artist who worked on the film. I recall looking him up years ago after seeing him in this. He obviously asked if he could have a part as an extra in the movie and was going to make the most of it. You can see him milking it for all it's worth lol
Thanks for the link Tyler. The film is also notable for featuring legendary porn star; Ron Jeremy who appeared as an extra as well. He appears outside Ghostbusters HQ just after the Ecto-containment unit has been switched off and all hell breaks loose. 4.bp.blogspot.com/-jdqf4gFm-YM/T-wDbf1N8nI/AAAAAAAAAHM/164rleeRcEU/s1600/ronbusters.jpg
I like this version better than the sountrack version. The hard sounds sounded harder. It was probably my favorite GB song. You get the feeling of danger from the scene, too.
As epic as this entire scene, nothing beats the scene immediately after this - when the Ghostbusters are trudging up the stairs of the apartment building complaining and wheezing. The comedic timimg was absolutely perfect.
To me this was the best scene out the movie being lead to the battle by the army like heros and the part when you see them in the distance going to the Apartment building and you hear savin the day.So damn cool
