CHEATS USED!!!!!!!!!!!!!,...so now you don't have to keep stating it!
Here it is without cheats used!: • LET'S LONGPLAY: GHOSTS...
Zeus presents Ghosts 'n Goblins (un-emulated) for the C64, a true classic from the golden era of C64 gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 1986
An absolute cracking conversion from Elite, graphic wise not as good as the arcade obviously but wow the playability and music is fantastic, it's so enjoyable to play you'll want to keep coming back for more, an absolute class version for the C64.
I actually owned the arcade pcb for my machine and as good as it was, this version for me is far more enjoyable.
I have used the invincibility poke so I could upload the entire game for your viewing pleasure.
I hope all you C64 fans enjoy this upload.

Please note: NONE of my game uploads are emulated in any way whatsoever, they are 100% original recordings by myself taken directly from the original hardware the game was intended for, that way you know you're watching the real thing.

Used to play this game a lot as a 7 year old kid. This evening, 38 years later, seemingly unrelated to any thought of ghosts'n' goblins, I was searching for melancholic music to listen to and I came across Chopin Prelude Op.28 No.20 in C Minor, which for some reason I had not heard before. And as I listened to it I couldn't help instantly think of ghost'n'goblins. And apparently the beginning is indeed really similar, if not actually the same, to the beginning of ghost and goblins, and I honestly believe the games music was build upon that beautiful piece by chopin. Then it struck me that what I loved about the ghost'n'goblins theme was probably that beautiful melancholy, so in a sense it feels like my search for melancholic music was related to my childhood love of this game after all. Tbh as a kid my love of my c64 games probably were more about the music than the actual games in many cases, playing the game was just an excuse to listen to and experience the incredible music, I just weren't conscious about that as a child.

I mostly used to play this game because the music was so great. The game is an okay port of the arcade considering the limitations of the c64 but the music really makes it a lot better.

Brings back alot of memories, i remember playing this during the mid 80's. What a time it was, the C64 was the best computer of the day, so many games...my other favourite was the Last Ninja and its sequel.

Yeah the c64 was the best it had great version of arcade games that computer really pushed it's limits and the sound was always top notch they ruined it on the 2015 remake and they added a couple things but the c64 version is tough too but when u beat it u feel like u accomplished something still have a c64 just got finished playing it also love the genesis version

Got the c64 for Christmas in 82' at 13 yrs old it was the best years of gaming for me from 82 to 88 plus had the Colecovision at the time too the NES and atari 7800 I was a big gamer then and now I'm a retro gamer meaning I play from everything from PS3 and Xbox 360 and down.

As good as modern video games are, you can't beat some of these old classics. My two nieces of 8 and 6 used to love this, they'd come over every Saturday to play this with me - they couldn't get to my place quick enough! The older one's favourite eventually became Bombjack.

Played this version a while ago and I loved it! Found it way more fun than the NES version, the music was better, and the scrolling is smoother. Plus the difficulty is hard at parts here but not nearly as bad as the NES version. Never played the arcade version

The music and graphics are poetic and haunting as others described. Those little 6:00 flying creatures I always imagined as some sort of voodoo Superman-child's, like inanimate satanic arranged tree-twigs that were brought to life and could never die even when you killed them because they returned. Funny how abstract graphics whet the mind of a child. I'm glad I grew up on this rather than say something super-literal and perfectly-detailed like today's games, but what do I know.

This was the best 8 bit port IMO. Faithful to the arcade machine and not crazy hard like the NES version, but still hard enough. And the music kicked the shit out of all comers.

@@ZEUSDAZ well done! That takes some doing and a lot of patience. Its a real coin guzzeler in the arcade. That's probably why it's ridiculously hard. I would sit there and wait while it loaded into my C64 play it for ages and I could never get past the red devil, but the music always stayed in my mind. 32 -33 years later.

6:12 you can't jump up onto that ledge like you could on the arcade version. But if you stand still and jump straight up, it budges the camera a few pixels upwards, and then you can make the jump. Anyone remember doing that back in the day? Just me?

I used to spend a huge amount of coins in the coin-op version of this great game. The C64 version for some aspects is great but still could be better, as some parts like end of level monsters were far too easy to beat and also the last part of the game (vertically played) is completely missing in this version

Me too! Got it on floppy disc for my 10th birthday. I remember it was only $10. Unfortunately, the game was so difficult, I ended up losing control, getting angry, and destroying the disc. My mother felt so bad for me, she went out and bought me another copy (which I kept for years). Finally won it and was dumbfounded it didn't have Lucifer or any additional levels as the arcade version had. But still one of the most difficult and best games around!

Have you seen the remake? They added some nice touches and I think some new levels and the map screens that play the tune when you go from area to area. I think there's new music too. Nice to see something other than useless demos.

i played the arcade version back in 86. one 8 yr old kid was GOD! on the game... 10 hrs 1 life, showed every spot where 10,000 stars etc, lvl 3 has a score timer gap, after the start of lvl 3 is similar to lvl 1, you know where the timer reset mark is. don't cross it. there is a spot, toggle the stick while firing left right left right..., shooting both ways zombies multiple spawners each side flooding with zombies... timer alarm sounds continue on

I enjoyed playing (and completing) this conversion back in the day, but I felt a little disappointed by the lack of some of the levels - I would have gladly accepted a multiload game and ALL 7 levels...anyway, the music is great and the difficulty is spot-on. I recommend that everybody try the recent remake of Ghosts n' Goblins which includes the introductory scene and all levels!

Though this versjon is shorter, which I didn't know before watching this, this is the classic versjon. Not least because this versjon has scary music in comparison with the rest of them. But I suspect that there were cheat codes involved somewhere. Several enemy attacts seemed like obvious hits, without you losing the armor...

Nice that you let the full song play at first, damn I played this on C64 when I was 12 years old in 95, also on the NES but the C64 version music was much better, had still this track in my head and just found it today. I tought it was Castlevania, then I checked Dracula, then I just did a search with the word "Zombie" and found Ghost 'N Goblins" that that name did rang abell and voila! ;-p

Did some of the music mute also originally on the C64 when sound effects played during play? I don't recall that happening, but then again it's been 38 years. Is it because of limited number of channels and it has to take one of the channels to play the sound effect (sounds for hitting enemies, picking up items etc)?

I still don't know why so many c64 ports had completely different music. It was almost always to the detriment of the game and disrespectful to the original composers who were often far better musicians

The only (minor) complaint I have with this conversion is that the programmers could have included ALL the levels that were in the arcade version. Still, a great game in it's day.

Just for some of the backstory, there was a single programmer responsible for this port, Chris Butler (who also made many other awesome arcade ports to the c64). As for the limited number of levels, I think the reasoning behind it was to make this a single-loader game that fit within 64kb of memory, so they could sell it on cassette format too (rather than it being a multi-loader disk-only release). I suppose if it was released as a C64 cartridge game, more levels could have been added into extra roms on the cart, but c64 carts weren't so common in those days due to them being more costly to produce (compared to cassette tape and disk).

Either, game glitch, or cheat, or he knows how to get around the hit boxes of each sprite? lol

I had never played Ghost n' Goblins on C64 but I did played it on NES. Good game though!

What an ending :) Still a lot better than the one in Dogs of war on the amiga though. It simply said "congratulations" in white standard font on a black background. The nerve! But..I guess it's better than "game over".

Yeah but I got used to games in the 80's with basic endings, the good point about this version is it has 4 levels unlike the Spectrum and Amstrad versions, level 3 is missing in those ones.
