You can use both, but Montgomery bill is only available if you paid the 1200. You made a good choice now youll be able to use both. Just use your Montgomery for 36months, then you can switch to 9/11 for another 12 months. You cannot use the 9/11 bill first so if you think your gonna need the extra cash or your not gonna try and go higher than four years, you can switch to the 9/11 bill right after your service.
Thank You! This video was very helpful, I leave to basic training jan.14.2019. I feel more confident to pick post 9/11 GI BILL. I'm joining the US ARMY 89B. Thanks again.
I just got off the phone with the VA Education Department and was told that you can only use one or the other not both separately. I was also told that you only get 36months of education financing for which ever one you pick. And more importantly the only difference with the two GI BILLS is that one pays you and one pay the school directly. It's not an unlimited amount for the post 9/11 it Max's a 26k
@@AndrusJones From what I understand, Once you are on your last month of post 9/11, if you haven't been sent a refund already you can just call the gi bill support number and let them know then it will be included with your last month of bah.
I was aware that if you bought into the Montgomery then you can no longer use the Post 9/11. Is that not the case? Or can I immediately use the Post when I ETS?
Bashar al-Assad you can switch over to the Post 9/11 Bill later, which is what a lot of people do in the end. The Post 9/11 bill requires you serve a certain amount of time first, 36 months as I recall. That should only really be a problem if you’re Guard though, most contracts last that long.
Another important thing. By federal law as a veteran you’re eligible for instate tuition at any public school you attend. Also the post 911 pays all tuitions at any accredited Public institution you choose to attend. It doesn’t matter if the public school charge $50000 per semester, as long as it’s an accredited program at a public institution the post 911 will pay all of it.
No Charles, I didn't get to pick. Some people get a survey asking which languages they want, but a lot of people didn't get any of the languages on their list. But I'm happy with Pashto, and Monterey is awesome. :)
You get to choose to pay into the GI Montgomery Bill at basic. But you don't qualify for it or the Post 9/11 Bill until you meet the other criteria. One of the criteria for the GI Montgomery bill though is paying the $100 per month for 12 months. The Post 9/11 doesn't require any kind of payments to qualify.
Andrus Jones Ok cool. I'm starting the entry processing, going to MEPS this Thursday. I definitely want to go to college one day and I don't want to miss signing up for the Montgomery / 9/11 bill because I missed some step somewhere. I'm just worrying too much though, as usual haha. How's Monterey so far?
Well I guess it depends on what you want. If you want to study, and don't care about passing it on, then just sign up for the GI Montgomery bill. But since I'm planning on passing it on to my kids anyway, I probably should have just not signed up for the GI Montgomery bill. I think the Post 9/11 Bill is a better deal anyway, but talk to your recruiter and see what they say. If you want to study it's probably a good idea to just buy into the Montgomery bill just in case you want to use that instead of the Post 9/11. $100 a month doesn't make too big a difference anyway. Hope that makes sense!
BAH is what you get in order to pay for your housing, so it isn’t related to the Montgomery Bill. You get BAH if you have dependents or if your unit approves it for you.
