The great Italian dramatic soprano Giannina Arangi Lombardi (1891-1951) began her career as a mezzo-soprano in 1920, but after three years made a second debut as a dramatic soprano, to great acclaim. She sang almost exclusively in the Italian repertoire, largely it Italy, although she was also very popular in South America. She taught, post career, and numbered, among her students, the great Leyla Gencer.
