In this video, we look at what NBA analysts like Fran Fraschilla, Bill Simmons, Jalen Rose, and more thought of Giannis Antetokounmpo in the 2013 NBA Draft. They all agree he has unlimated potential and that he could be a future star.
@@jojo539 Maybe I should have made my point better. Potential is easy to see in a prospect its just potential. It still has to be realised. Bennett had plenty (maybe not #1 pick potential but its the type of person they become and situation that makes it hard).
xDynasys Facts. Plus I don’t see him adapted well to the nba he is too skinny and I don’t see the Alpha mentality on him. Any chance he will be better than AB (Anthony Bennett).
Giannis probably could've gone either way tbh. Either sacrifice weight for shooting and agility, or bulk up for power and strength like he did. Personally I'm glad we got the latter.
@@joshuahendricks7201 if he chose to be a shooter, he’d probably be like Jayson Tatum tbh. Him choosing athleticism over skill was a choice anyone would’ve made, would you rather be prime shaq with ball handling and perimeter D and a decent jumper or would you rather be jayson tatum? I think we know the answer
Jalen Rose: "normally they dont attract free agents and they dont normally overpay to get free agents" Bill Simmons: "like Indiana!" Jalen was not amused lol
Not really, at the time this draft took place, Paul George was developing into a future superstar, and was believed that he would be LeBron James successor. George's Pacers gave a shit ton of trouble to the big three Miami Heat and MVP LeBron. Sadly, injuries changed his game and the course of his career to a consistent All Star.
@@averageborincano9691 the comment is suggesting that it would be an insult to compare them NOW so I don’t see what your point is.. they even said Bucks fans would be ecstatic to hear the comparison when it was made for the reasons you highlighted
Definitely. They should probably trade him to that lousy Golden State Warriors team or whatever. Who knows, maybe they can get that Draymond Brown kid in exchange. They both seem like future bust material.
It was their development plan more than anything else as other teams were also ready to draft Giannis. Having said that I wonder how things would’ve turned out if Jabari Parker didn’t get injured, would the Bucks have focused their attention on him and groomed him as their main man instead of Giannis if he was healthy?
That's no coincidence the dude worked his ass to differentiate the NBA and not make it a direct competitor to the NFL he knew the domestic market is forever about the NFL but the NBA could grow internationally
I’m a lifelong bucks fan and was at work on break listening to the local coverage of the draft. The local guys couldn’t say his name and I remember thinking “well they picked 15th no harm in grabbing a developmental euro player” knowing absolutely nothing about him. Fast forward to 2022 and he’s a multiple MVP and NBA champion, one of the greatest players to ever play the game. It would be fitting that they hand craft a marble statue of the man in front of the fiserv forum, because he’s going to go down as the greatest MKE Buck in history.
I watched this draft knowing 0 about him when picked so went online and started to watch video and read draft reports I could find. After 2 hours I liked what I saw, knew we had no chance to get a star in FA so had to draft one and for years was saying taking the highest potential regardless of bust risk and this kid seemed like that. Way excided expectations.
Giannis is the embodiment of what coaching and superior work ethic can do in sports. He’s transformed his body with work and has been coachable. That combination took a nice sized lump of coal and turned it in to the Hope Diamond. An offseason for the ages when you consider they got Middleton via trade as well.
Imagine if jabari turned into what he was supposed to be while Giannis stayed on the same trajectory. Then khris was picked up that same summer and he turned out the same. 🤣🤣🤣 would be the tallest trio of all star forwards ever
Exactly, there’s another great clip from this draft where they announce that Denver traded the gobert pick (#27) for the 46th pick and cash and he just goes “what?! That’s terrible!” Lol
Yea man. I just rewatched the 2013 draft after Giannis won the chip and noticed Bill Simmons is a phenomenal analyst. A lot of his takes, comparisons, or predictions have proven to be so true now in 2021. We need a guy like that talking sports, not some Stephen A Smith or Jalen Rose!
I remember seeing him saying he's a little underweight but got all the talent and potential to be the star look now he's put on muscle got his game right and now he's the MVP
I'm here after Giannis Antetokounmpo won his first NBA Championship. All I'm going to say is Fran Fraschilla knows what he's talking about and deserves more TV time during NBA Draft coverage.
Fraschilla is the only guy on ESPN and probably in the whole US media that follows european/FIBA basketball up close and personal. And he knows his stuff, could easily lead a team of scouters and train them on european basketball.
Honestly great analysis. An all ceiling player that requires a proper strength program, and proper development. If you do that, well...he turns into who he is now.
I remember seeing this live and just thinking, "a unique name, unique skill set, I hope he takes off". I watched as his rookie season and sophomore season played out, I was in awe at how quick he was developing. I remember getting my Giannis black bucks shirt and wearing it all the time. I had a gut feeling about this kid and I'm glad to see that kid from greece take the basketball world by storm. Here's hoping he joins my hometown Heat!
Everyone has potential. Some players have higher potential compared to others but the thing that seperates the potential is how they work with their game and some luck into it. Like how wiggins is like now. Entering 2014 draft, everyone saw his high potential and people were calling him the next kobe but his work ethic isnt great. And then there is giannis. A nobody in the 2013 draft but has the work ethic to improve.
Well said, Wiggins since he left the wolves and joined Golden state has unlocked ALOT of his potential, hes become more efficient, better shooter, defence has also increased, hes contributing to WINNING basketball something he never did with the wolves.
What kind of pick is this? This is an awful pick. This guy simply does not have enough basketball experience to be picked at 15! Especially when guys like Tony Snell and Lucas Nogueira are still available to pick. No surprise that the Bucks have had no recent success! That’s what happens when you pick guys like this! Can’t wait to see this guy be back playing overseas in Greece in a few years while never staring in an NBA game.
This is basically the same cookie cutter template they use to describe ALL first rounders - huge potential, can handle the ball well, needs some seasoning in order to shine his brightest.
