Now, a 60,000 volt dual ignition coil powersource, which plays bluetooth music, is even better. I built a bluetooth linked ignition coil driver that was more capable than I planned it to be, and documented my journey. Links for circuit components below.

Imagine being an electron along on THIS ride. I've included links to most of the major components for this build, in the video description. Also - this location was RF shielded. After manual testing, when all doors were closed, no radio escaped or entered. It made using my cell phone with closed doors, nearly impossible. Do not attempt to create a spark gap radio yourself, as it can cause radio interference.

Ok this is more of a request than a response but here goes I had some ideas for a generator but found rpm’s are limited by the bearings ( like a bendini circuit with magnets and coils ) I was experimenting with neodymium magnets and thought 💭 why not eliminate the friction of bearings and use magnetic fields to levitate the ends of a shaft that had discs with magnets to fire coils . Would you consider trying it out ? I got as far as a disc at each end with magnets evenly spaced out . My first attempts were too rough of a ride because not enough matching magnets on the outer repelling magnet group causing vibration of the shaft . I did discover if I tilted the magnet on an angle it’s magnetic footprint was elliptical and ran smoother with less bumping . Now of course super conductors came to mind but I was trying it out more on principle. Thank you in advance if you choose to experiment on this idea . Kind of a “ better mousetrap “ but no need for bearings would change a lot . IRL it would extend the life of wind farm generators from catastrophic failure due to bearing failure that is all too common

@Speeder84XL
@Speeder84XL 2 года назад
Nice build! The reason you need quite high frequencies for audio modulation to work is probably not just the switching frequency in it self being audiable, but also the modulation of the arc. The switching frequency must be significantly higher than the audio frequencies, to be able to modulate it into sound (otherwise the frequencies will just interfere with each other and end up mostly as nothing or just unwanted as noise). When using 7-10 kHz switching frequency, only lower midrange and bass frequencies would be possible to play back as audio. But low audio frequencies are very hard to play back with an open arc anyway (unless the arc is really huge) - because the volume of surrounding air that get displaced (in this case by expansion and contraction of the air/plasma inside the arc) get too small compared to the wave length of the audio. The same reason a high frequency speaker can be made very small and still loud, but a subwoofer need to be quite big to even work at all. Still fun project and those ignition coils probably has a lot of other fun uses and applications, that doesn't need very high frequencies to work.
@PlasmaChannel
@PlasmaChannel 2 года назад
Thanks so much! Yeah, my favorite build hands down. Love this little circuit. You gave great input on this. Have you built plasma tweeters in the past?
@Speeder84XL
@Speeder84XL 2 года назад
@@PlasmaChannel I havn't built plasma speakers, but is experimenting right now with building a small PWM modulated (class D) amplifier (which I got working - maybe I put up a video later). I guess this works in a similar way - because you also have "sharp" pulses coming from the transformer output, which then get averaged out into smooth waves acoustically by the arc. But, if the modulated frequency is to close to the switching frequency, there is not many pulses that can get averaged out and the 2 frequencies will mostly interfere with each other instead. A good rule of thumb for class D (and probably this as well) seem to be that the switching frequency should be at least 10 times (and the more the better) the highest modulated frequency (200 kHz if you want to play audio up to 20 kHz).

Excellent video as usual! I would recommend moving your drain connection of your Fet directly to the primary instead of going through the diode, that diode is having to handle all that current which also (at higher frequencies) could cause issues. Leave the diode where it is but connect your drain directly the primary, that way your snubber is still operational. I would love to know if that helps, maybe make a short follow up video??

6:44 - 6:55 was a seriously impressive mix of musical and editing skills. You "played" the coils in key with the background music, even where you hesitated inbetween knob turns you landed on frequencies that were in the same key, and once you came to rest on the higher octave you blipped the plasma in rhythm. There's no way all of that was accidental, that was great

I would recommend looking for information on how FM transmitters encode the audio signal on the carrier frequency. If you're able to adjust your circuit to operate the arc on a frequency just outside of the human audible range, it might help with the screeching noise.

Haha, they dont sue me because my transmitted signals are extremely weak, and blocked by the RF shielding i've put up years ago around my room. I installed faraday shielding which covers all my walls, ceiling, and and windows, and my floor is several feet thick of reinforced concrete. I have virtually zero cell phone reception at my place at all times, due to this. In order to play the radio, at the end of this video, I needed to remove the shielding from my windows. Otherwise I can't receive stable radio stations through my walls. You'll notice reception was terrible on the radio, as most the room was still mostly covered.

The transmitter idea is an interesting step back in time. The first radio transmitters, circa 1900, were spark gap sets. Before electronic (vacuum tube) oscillators and amplifiers were available, high speed mechanical alternators generated AC power, which was on/off modulated (i.e. switched) to a spark gap to generate RF energy. As you can imagine, this was down in the kilocycle range. Lee de Forest's vacuum tubes allowed RF frequencies up in the (gasp!) megacycle range. That was high frequency, or HF. Now, HF is close to the lowest RF range used, which make it's name an amusing paradox.

Nice build! 👍I've watched your previous videos that play music with the arc of a Tesla coil before ,so I wonder if you using DRSSTC/SSTC's interrupter directly drive the ignition coils instead of just using a single 555 driver circuit would be way better than this?🤔
@PlasmaChannel
@PlasmaChannel 2 года назад
Hm. That would take some work to test out. Good idea though
@rondraw6460
@rondraw6460 2 года назад
@@PlasmaChannel I've tried this circuit before and it worked perfectly😀 !The SSTC‘s interrupter as a driver and it can only use square wave music input, but because of this, the music arc is almost no noise! It's really worth to test out!⚡

This is pretty cool. I love this idea! What else can you apply this to? It kinda makes me curious if you can make it transmit to an Infinite amount of speakers. Each speaker has its own independent power source and receiver. Or would the power draw from the emitter be too much. Just like you can only load a Tesla coil so much before its power level is to low. Also I loved the exaggerated nuclear bomb explosions hahaha!!! Hahaha! I loved the acrylic gods joke it was pretty funny 😄. This is a pretty nice video and build. Yes, I spark all of the time bro. Stay Classy
@PlasmaChannel

Yeah, it can be applied to any circuit that relies on PWM or pusles in general. Glad you enjoyed!

If you hate the 555, just use an Arduino (yea you gotta learn some interrupt stuff, but if you just copy and paste-modify one of their examples, it is very easy).. You could even use a driver board addon thingy (just to isolate the arudino).. Now it might be a bit more expensive by a few coffees, but at the same time you'll spend very little time fighting the waveform (cuz you could solve that issue in software vs iffy-pots|caps|resistors).. IMHO you save overall since I consider time expensive.. Ur really missing out on the microcontroller based controlling, once you have some things working, it's super easy to lego that stuff up.

@Mis73rRand0m Год назад
I think you can protect your 555 ICs by using them to trigger a fast switching mosfet or possibly even a BIP373 Ignition driver - while they are limited to 14V input... well you should check the datasheet; they're built to make arcs inside of combustion chambers so they may be perfect.

A lot of the concepts in this build are familiar to me as I've been doing Garage Science since I was a toddler... I've never really worked with acrylic like you are in this video though (I have used it before, but usually as just flat pieces to make shields or displays) so, I was curious; What exactly are doing doing with that little blue tool that you seem to be using when "gluing" the acrylic pieces together? I'm curious how you're gluing these together.

Glad to see B.E.A.M.D.I.C. was a success. Physics! Btw, I know next to nothing about high voltage circuits, but just wondering if you can increase the frequency of the background pitch to above human hearing levels to eliminate it that way, will it work?
@PlasmaChannel
@PlasmaChannel 2 года назад
Glad you enjoyed BEAMDIC lol. So that’s why I talked about flybacks. You can’t drive ignition coils up at that range. It’s not a matter of circuit. It’s a matter of transformer. Circuit can go WAY HIGHER in frequency.

How about adding a couple of LEDs blinking at an adjustable frequency around the frequency of the arcs ? That way you may get a cool strobe effect where the arcs look like they’re in slowmo !
