That is super exciting! I kept our CC hens from last year. They lay some decent eggs and are really sweet chickens. Good for free ranging. They are being bred by my Black Australarp. I am hoping to incubate some eggs to see what we get.
you inspired me to keep a few cornish x chicks separate with our layers this year , we will be raising like a regular layer , if it doesn't work we still will have dinner lol
A word of advice would be to ration their feed. If I let him eat free choice I would have no doubt he would have been dead by now. I don't know how well they lay eggs, but it isn't impossible. Check into the Slow Growing White Broiler from Welp hatchery. They lay eggs really well and are delicious. (Mama in the video). Thanks for watching!!!
@@TheAbleFarmer Would be interesting if you started a flock of these new crossed chicks. You might end up with a flock of fast-growing broilers that don't keel over and die.
I had a Rhode Island Red rooster that was mixed with something else (we think possible Cornish Game) and he topped out at 21 pounds. He was just darn big. He lived about 8 years.
This is the first video I watched on this channel so I haven't seen any updates yet but they don't reproduce them because the kids don't always carry the same traits of fast growing
My grandmother would raise a batch for slaughter and keep some good specimens usually hens as layers for her back yard flock. She never had incubators and hatched very few chicks. These fowl lived for a long time, though they were huge.
Omg I got Cornish rocks for eggs.. I didn’t know any better and the idiots at tractor supply co were no help!! I asked for a breed that were good for eggs... I have a feeling they were trying to get rid of them because he said “they’re all the same kind.” “we got 2000 of them in today.” And then I got 6. I was in a rush and didn’t want to argue even though I saw there were more I figured I would get more later. And out of 6, 2 are alive. I went back and got 6 more of different breeds (not exactly sure what they are but I got 2 of each breed) all of them survived. So now I’m stuck with 2 meat chickens!! I didn’t know they couldn’t survive.. god damn tractor supply co.
Yeah that ain't good. Most of the time the workers at those stores know nothing about chickens. I hope things work out for you. You can always eat them or give them away to somebody that will. But those chickens will likely never live to their first egg.
The Able Farmer ugh thanks for the tip.. my boyfriends dad or grandpa will definitely help him out with the slaughter lol. I ain’t eating them though they’re my babies 😂
I have a friend with 2 cornish hens that lay large white eggs. I do imagine you have to follow the special feeding schedule, especially at first, for them to thrive, though.
i have 11 hens and 1 rooster broiler and have 19 off springs growing and their doing grate, off springs growing at fast rate gaining some weight fast so far so good mine r 10 months old and they lay tons of delicious eggs.
I kept two of my hens after watching this. They are with my layers and doing great after 4 months. I had a roo that I wish we could have kept, he was the same size, about 4 months out. Processed out at just under 11 pounds. If I had another enclosure and didn't have 3 roos already I would have kept him. We called him TurChicken. Watching this video reminds me of him. Love it
Frank the Chicken is still kickin' and keeping the bloodline alive as a proud new papa and he has no idea lol Hope the plan goes well and the new chick lives on long(enough) and large.
I keep telling people to do it. My friend’s daughter has 4 Cornish cross that are just ending their third summer. If you feed them less and you let them range, the Cornish do actually live.
Hey I just happened across your video because I was search to see if anyone had ever kept a cornish cross to just see how long they wud live and see if anyone had ever cross bread a corn is cross with another bread. So now that I saw your video I to am gonna do my own experiment with a r.i.r. rooster and a Cornish cross hen. Fingers crossed. Lol
Makes no sense the poultry industry tries to hinder us to have our own cornish cross breeding... if it is a superior hybrid then it can obviously breed its own! i have 7 cornish cross the cat ate 5 , now i got male and female... i enjoyed this video.
TY so much for doing the experiment I wanted to try! Yeah the babies can be any mix of the 2. but it happened they had a chick so cool! If I had done the experiment my next cross would be w/ a different breed
I'm raising two Cornish X's with my layers. I've been giving them broccoli for their extra food intake needs and letting them exercise during the day. It seems to be working
Awesome! I tried putting him with my layers but they attacked him and i had to separate him. I definitely ration his feed. Otherwise I bet he would have died by now.
NEVER HEARD CORNISH HENS CROSSING! That is amazing. I bought 12 chicks, lost one to a coyote, butchered all the roosters except for one. Kept all the hens (five). Two of the hens died cause they got too fat (my fault). Took better care of the remaining three hens. Built them their own coop and now I await the eggs to be laid for me to incubate. I actually did see my fat rooster mate, so I'm reasonably sure any eggs they produce will be fertile. Also, since I'm new to chicken farming, I accidentally butchered a hen and found a ton of eggs inside of her. So I KNOW they have eggs, and I've seen other youtubers demonstrate they do lay eggs. My only concern is that other roosters have flown over into their area and I saw one jump on a hen. So maybe I'll get something that is not 100% meat bird. Thanks for this vid. I was just about to butcher the four birds but you convinced me to give it more time. They are about six months old.
You’re a genius!! I’m going to be trying to bread the Cornish crosses together. Even if I have to artificially inseminate. Give me a couple months I’m bout ready to fire my RU-vid channel up and I am so inspired by this video!
Was that chick concived in the back of that sweet for fusion? With all that style and luxury packed in to a mid sized sedan would get anyone in the mood.......thats a good car!!!
Had these big ones, the jumbo XRocks, guess mixed with Cornish , they got big, hens laying, hatched a few eggs as experiments also, one morning went out to begin my day and found one rooster killed over dead in front of one of the cages, I went to pick him up and what I think was a dog killed him, some one had a pit bull dog and would turn it loose at night and this is what he did was kill chickens, the killed 20 in one night from down the road, anyway he was Soo heavy when I picked him up that I wondered how much he weighed, I got the scales I stand on and looked at what I weighed got off picked him up by his big feet and got back on the scales, he was 25 lbs pounds, when he was walking around he stood about 30 inches high, from ground to top of comb, more or less, reason I know they that big was everyone was thinking they are going to fly the coop, no way they could not get off the ground, the hens were big too and had one he mounted and soured her hanging on till his weight tore one side of her pretty bad, I thought they were fighting over the food, but no cause they looked like vaccum cleaners when it hit the ground, anyway they were fun and had about 60 or more chickens at one time, some babies, others different kinds but fun, there were some polish but smaller with the V comb, the Shamo type were bad to fight, all kinds of breeds and kept them seperate, those big guys would kill anything but I could walk around them and they didn't bother me, people even brought some after they got tired of them, they crowed and didn't lay and had to go, but I had eggs and more everyday, would go out and build a fire for breakfast and throw the skillet down on the fire and have some of the best fresh home grown eggs every morning, I love the outdoor life and animals, gardens and good eating, picked the grass out the garden and threw it to the chickens. Going to try it again since I moved a neighborhood dog got all my chickens.
Wow, he is 13 pounds, it means 5.89 kg. Big guy! You know that chicken can live up to 12 years old? If Frank can survive to 8 or 9 years, I think he should be recorded in Guinness World Records! Here in Indonesia I once saw a broiler rooster about 2 years old. I don't know if you are able to keep Frank up to 5 years or most expected 8 years, I believe it is phenomenal! Extremely Amazing! I red in an article many years ago, claimed that Bantam chicken can live until 8 years old. Hope Frank can break the records live at least 5 years if 8 or 9 years is very best!
@@TheAbleFarmer many people in Java Island, Indonesia, raise chicken. Some of them is raised for flying competition, check this out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OuT4GwyXpHE.html Anyway, Frank is cute. I can't wait to see Frank get his 3 years. Salud, from Indonesia
I was inspired to try but I don't think I've been successful. I have tons of fertile eggs and one is very white but he/she has furry feet so it's probably a cross between a meat bird and a brama rooster. I'm down to one rooster and one hen and it's not feasible to keep them separate though I might try again next season. Good job!!! No, on facebook lots of chicken people are saying it's impossible then someone shared your vid.
Omg, 13 pounds. That's amazing. Frankenstein is appropriate for sure and he is a proud daddy. We subbed to you guys, pay us a visit and consider subbing to us if you don't mind. Thanks for sharing, Carl and Dawn Homestead
She was in there. At least a couple months. She spent all winter with him and didn't start laying until spring. Even then we just ate the eggs for awhile. Check out some later videos where I show his baby. There us no doubt he is his.
It did well, it grew fast and was huge. I show it in later videos. I went ahead and butchered it about a month ago. I didn't think it would survive the winter
This hen is a slow growing white broiler (who is still alive today) from Welp hatchery. She started laying at about 6 months of age. The dad is a typical Cornish cross
It also appears that he has developed more bone in his legs to support his weight which is a testimony to our favorite jurassic park line...." life finds a way". Lmbo But I've seen CC that literally can not walk three steps with out sitting down for a break.
