Good luck figuring it out! Sometimes he's treated like he's a teenager, sometimes he's in his twenties, sometimes he celebrates his 21st birthday and some issues later celebrates his 18th... his actual age is all over the place in his series.

Clearly, what DC Comics needs most as an ultimate getting-back-to-its-roots mega-story is Jimmy Olsen turning into some bizarre monster, Lois Lane marrying him, and a team-up of all the Clayfaces plus Supergirl's stalker horse to save the day. Rebirth 2.0.

all the clayfaces fuse together to become the one true clayface who his cured and create's new character that's a combination of all the other clayface's. Then he gets a redemption arc but is turned back in to clayface.

First off, someone was stretching the definition of "turtle" with that design. Secondly, the fifth famous turtle teen, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michaelangelo... Jimmy, and maybe Franklin, once he actually grows up, and him coming over to your house becomes a threat.

At 3:56 waitaminute,waitaminute! Superman finds an enlarging ray and instead of grabbing it (so he can, you know, see if it works on KANDOR) tells Jimmy to get rid of it? I guess that's part of the charm of Silver Age stories. If you think two minutes about them they fall apart. Fortunately when this was first published I was seven, the perfect age for it.

In the Death of Superman novel, Jimmy was working as a kid's show character named Turtle Boy. Lois interrupts taping to cover the fight with Doomsday.

I like how Superman's first thought is to hurl Jimmy into space. Then there's 1:51. Superman doesn't look particularly upset that Jimmy is stuck in Kandor forever. "The growth ray broke". Probably because you stepped on it Superman!

So Much Fun!!!! I especially appreciate the Blue Oyster Cult lyrics. I will always sing it that way now whenever I hear that song. Silver Age plots (at DC at least) were certainly the most contrived, but also the most fun.

IIRC the plans for Jai West becoming the next Turtle (and there have been multiple Turtles in Flash lore) also included Eobard Thawne having a daughter named Mara. Mara Thawne. Gotta love pun names.

Jimmy the Menace and Lois the Bride, Superman never has a chance to relax. Jimmy at the time was a menace even when not transforming into something. Like Lois, Superman was always having to save Jimmy.

In the first panel shown of this story, when Clark, Lois and Jimmy are on the cruise ship, I liked how Clark was laying on the deck chair with his feet up, reading the newspaper, and he's still in his default Clark-at-work suit. They couldn't even switch him out to be in casual clothes while he's on vacation on a cruise ship???

He is or was an honorary member of the LSH as Elasti-Jimmy. Lana Lang is an honorary member too. Lois never was made an honorary member. Probably a good thing since she would have had a number of eligible male Legionaires to try and marry.

You should also do a playlist of other jobs Jimmy has done besides being a cub reporter or as part of his cub reporter news efforts. He once took Robin's place. He was once or twice a rock star during the Beatles craze. I think he was a cowboy once and a gangster, taking the place of his evil duplicate. Or at least I have a memory of that. Or that could have been another red-headed teen I'm thinking of.

I'm glad you threw in the fact that the story was based off a *_Thrilling Wonder Stories_* cover. I was completely stunned when I first saw that magazine cover, with the scaly pop-eyed alien who became Jimmy, and the spaceship that became Superman.

This is from that era when they would come up with a cover 1st, and forced the writers to figure out what was going to be happening in the book, if what I've been told is true. I seem to remember DC doing a little gimmick thing where they did that again sometime in the early 2000's or late 90's, but I cannot remember anything specific, or even if I'm just making it up it up in my own brain. Anyone? This isn't one of those things that's particularly easy to Google.

I'll have you know that as a 10 year old boy, finding that Superman only fell in love with beautiful women with the initials "LL" was edifying. It made perfect sense (given that both Lois Lane and Lana Lang also fit the criteria) and the fact that she had fins was totally irrelevant to me. Granted, once girls became more than plot devices in comics and a source of cootties I realized that made no sense whatsoever, but for a while it was there ...

I love Jimmy's crazy transformations: a lot of them (including Turtle Man) showed up in Countdown (aka Countdown to Final Crisis) where Jimmy temporarily gained the power to turn into those forms. Turtle Man even fought Darkseid in hand to hand combat in the final issue.

I love how someone builds a growth ray and, instead of simply getting one gold coin and enlarging it to make themselves rich, they tack on mind control for fun and concoct the most ridiculous plan ever. Also, I love how he had to go all the way back to Metropolis to steel metal from the bridge because they were out of ships in the ocean or something. Gotta love silver age chaos.

Jimmy's transformations like the Turtle Man, was also referenced in JLA: The Nail by Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. Basically, what if the Kents never found Clark and thus no Superman. Jimmy eventually ends up becoming like a Bizarro by Lex. It's interesting.

At some point in the mid '90s, Jimmy was starring in a Galaxy Broadcasting show as the turtle man. And in Emperor Joker, Giant Turtle Jimmy Olsen appeared. He ate Superman who... *ahem*... exited the giant in the usual manner. The next issue showed him being hosed down. Yes. Jimmy pooped out Superman. It happened.

I had my brothers comics to grow up on. These were part of his collection that i distinctly remember. Loved the Elastic lad stories and of course the turtle boy. Thanks a bunch for this.

For a theme, you could look at Superman's various pals who somehow managed to become honorary Legionnaires. I can't remember which version of Jimmy got that honor, but I do recall Lana as Insect Queen and Pete Ross as . . . Pete Ross.
