Gibson Les Paul Goldtop 1956 Vintage Guitar repair in my Luthier Workshop.
The owner of this iconic Goldtop asked me to take care of his amazing Instrument.
I have to admit that I am a great Goldtop fan. I used to play myself a 1972 Deluxe Goldtop
with a p-90 in the neck and a Humbucker in the bridge position.
This P-90 equipped beauty was modified back in the 60´s. The pre owner installed a third P-90 and a
second toggle switch wich was placed between the pots. After years the holes were professionally closed and the top was refinished. This Guitar feels amazing especially the neck shape is incredible.
In this Video you can follow the process how I maintain this beautiful Instrument.
I will also share a couple of Luthier hacks that can be very useful for you.
You can follow the full process in this Video.
Some people asked about the Background Music:
This is composed and recorded by myself with
my Handmade Instruments.

It makes me happy when I see old goldtops that haven't been messed with. Far too many have been used for conversions and/or routed out for humbuckers. I know that back in the day...they were just viewed as used guitars....but sadly, people are still messing with them. These things should be preserved and respected for what they are....pieces of history.

Nice work on a beautiful guitar! You've got your math wrong, it does not become 10" radius (rounder). It will go flatter so upwards in inches. Besides, it's easier to show with a straight ruler. The bridge should be flat and touching the ruler, and when it is bowed there is a gap. The saddles are what makes the radius.

If your customer expects to keep playing his 56, sooner or later he's going to have to come to terms with a refret. Those guitars came out of the factory with extremely low frets to begin with; it was never going to be possible to dress the frets because there was never much material above the fretboard in the first place.

Don’t you mean the radius would get flatter say like 14 or so with the sag in bridge not steeper like 10 you said? Not sure how anyone plays a guitar like that with frets in that condition! They are horrible and completely flat and worn. You are not detracting any value from it, if anything you’re making it a much more playable guitar. Nice video

For the life of me, I don’t understand the current tuner in snot green? It’s nothing like a vintage tuner looks. It’s amber, not snot green, took me years to find a set that looked correct, and also has one line , one ring, as it should be. One line on tuner case, one ring on the button. Gibson has a real knack to get historical things wrong consistently.

Uhmm...when the bridge colapses from 12", it gets BIGGER, not smaller. You say 10", but it should be 16" or even 20". It gets flatter, circle gets bigger. Try measuring it with your gauge. 😊

Something is fishy about this guitar. Standards do not have a first fret inlay. The Gibson logo sits somehow low, to close to the Les Paul decal. Hmm..

@@petrekguitarsCan you comment on the finish, too? Is this a refin? The wear on the back doesn’t quite tie in to what’s on the top
@petrekguitars
@petrekguitars 17 дней назад
@@user-nx3ub1eh3l Thanks for your question. That’s correct and what I have mentioned at the end of the Video . This guitar was modified from the first owner back in the 50-60s. He added a third P-90 Pickup between the other ones and a additional switch between the pots. There are also pictures existing… and then a Finnisch Luthier removed all the mods fill up the cavity and refinished only the top in his original color. Best Regards Nik

Wie sehr ändert das den Wert der Gitarre? Wenn Du Teile der Gitarre änderst. Dies ist zwar nötig; aber wird es dann noch als „original“ bezeichnet? Liebe Deine Videos! Man lernt immer dazu…

Interessant!
