My worry for the Defense, the last decade since 2015, which I think it's the last decent Defense OU has had. All the Defenses start off the season looking good, looking change, and then around after Texas the bottom starts falling off, sometimes the fall is slower, sometimes it's instantly but eventually the Defense fades away. Including the last 2 seasons with BV. Why will that not happen this season? Everyone keeps saying top "10 Defense ", no that's shouldn't even be in your mind. Can they not have a massive drop off at some point. That is the question? Last season they looked like a top 20 Defense, and then finshed close to 80. And,a huge reason why they fell off so much, is because they couldn't stop the pass, and a big reason why, is because they just couldn't put enough pressure on a QB. That is the key to all great Defenses. I don't care how good your DBs are, if you aren't getting enough pressure on the QB consistently, the other teams WRs will beat your DBs eventually. The rules are just to swayed in the Offenses favor. Can RMT finally become that dude? Will the light come one for PJ? Do they have any interior DL, that can be like Neville Gallimore, who caused havoc in the middle a lot. If OU has answers for those spots? They will be awesome. If not? It will be a long season.

I hate the corporate sponsorship stuff on the field. I don't care about what monetary boost it would give, find another way and keep that trash off of our field and uniforms. It's literally turning into the opening for the classic comedy "Basesketball" in which they depict all sports selling out for money and sponsorships, and the game quality deteriorating. Ironically, I saw a video yesterday of something that wasn't too dissimilar to Basesketball. It was called "Roofball", and it involves throwing a football on the roof of a house. It was the championship being broadcasted, and it's been a thing for like 2 decades. I think since around the time the movie of Basesketball was released. Real life has become parody.

From what I've heard listening to other podcasts, JJ Hester has been fighting injuries since he's been at OU. Hopefully he's all good now and can play to his full potential.

10:32 - Exactly.. I've been thinking the same about our WR room, despite everyone else always talking about how deep we are. We have a lot of bodies, but a decent amount of them are usually hurt or injured, and most are inexperienced and unproven. Sometimes it seems like they, and a few other positions, are either made of glass, or they're practicing too hard or improperly.

Regarding what BV said about Kani... While I wouldn't be shocked if Kani is our most consistent CB (okay, maybe I'd be a little...), sometimes it seems that BV likes to give a shoutout and some recognition to players that have excelled in work ethic, attitude, or perhaps made a relative jump in some way, etc, particularly during the dog days of summers. I'm not trying to suggest it isn't the right thing to do as a coach, I'm just saying I don't look too far into it. A form of coach speak, if you will. I remember when he made it sound like Gavin Freeman was the guy at wideout, and that was pretty far from the eventual reality. Boomer!

Sucks for Gibson but I know he'll come back stronger in his redshirt junior year. Foe the team: When we start conference play, I think Anderson, Anthony, Burks, Farooq and some mix of guys like Pettaway, Thompson, Carreon, Hester, and others should still give us a strong WR core. A silver lining is that with some exacted departures, he should be our top returning receiver next year.

That amount for the cowboys of course doesn’t represent the rest of Jerry jones wealth which is estimated of around $15 million with this new valuation of the cowboys. Mizzou lost their starting DE I believe as of yesterday. These injuries suck for these kids but it’s these kind of injuries that can detour a teams season. Mizzou doesn’t have the personnel that they had on the line last year so their starting DE going down can’t be good. I guess we will see a lot more WN.

OU at 16 feels about right to me. But your discussion brings up a long-time frustration for me (of polls, not your opinions). That voters would rank teams based on how they think they'll end up. This is nuts to me. As I understand it, the AP poll should reflect the best teams in order per week as they see it. OU has a hard schedule. So? They are 0-0 now. Never should a poll for pre-season or Week X make any votes based on how they THINK things will go by the end of the season. I don't get it.

12:23 - Is it just me, or was our WR blocking kinda poor last year in comparison to years prior? In years prior, it seemed like my eyes were constantly catching WR's making awesome blocks. But last year, it seemed like my eyes were usually catching WR's barely putting effort into blocks or whiffing on them. And when they would make a decent block, the RB like Majors would be indecisive about which side to make his cut, and run into the back of his blocker and get tackled, tripped up, or fall over.

With all of this cash flying around college football I assume these kids have performance incentives built into their agreements. Vegas is going to love the action.

Over a decade easily. What defense is the last defense that seemed to be on this level? 2009? I don’t see a defense that compares to this years from 2010 and beyond. If I’m wrong which defense had the kind of talent and expectations since 2010? Regarding Barnes. It’s kind of Intersting that no matter who they hear it from that has watched JB play and describe his play they just can’t buy it as if last year is what JB is. I even heard guys on a podcast talk about how he didnt look special his freshman year. What freshman RB does? How many freshman RB’s even make the 2 deep and play? It’s utterly ridiculous thinking Barnes is what he is based on last year. I know a lot of people in the recruiting world that saw Barnes as the more talented and complete back when he came in from high school with Sawchuk. I’ll trust you guys who have seen him play. I think that’s a much safer bet than these guys who have never even played football and their takes.

50:00 - I hate that. In contrast with the NFL, I cannot stand that every regular season NFL game doesn't feel that important. It doesn't start to feel that important until roughly the final quarter of the season.. That's a significant part of what makes college football feel more spectacular and special than NFL, and it's going to make college football feel watered-down if/when they turn it into being more like the NFL. But then the better quality of a football season will be forgotten about, and the younger generation of football fans will never know and just accept the new status as the norm. And the younger generation will look upon the previous generation who know, and view them as just "old-heads that complain about anything that isn't older". Not only will it make regular season games seem less important, but the rivalry games. Especially the ones earlier in the season, like Red River.. "Sure for bragging rights, we don't want to lose this game, but it's not significant to our season if we lose this one. We can afford to lose it, and maybe 1 or 2 more, and still make the 12 team (or eventually 16 team 🙄) playoff."

How did the schedule get so lopsided between the two new teams. Then it’s a lazy 2025 by just flipping them. Let’s don’t act like they didn’t know who was supposed and projected to be good.
