Always play clean. If I have any overdrive it is just natural pushing the head room of the amp (preferably a small amp) and modest sized speaker magnets to match. Don't really want to mask the sound of a beautiful guitar with too much.

About the compensated nut, a costumer asked me what if he wants to use a capo? The entonation would be ruined, right? At first it sounded it's true unless if you have a compensated capo. So for instruments with compensated nuts, using a capo it's not a good option?

Lol ! No need for a compensated capo. But a good question. I will demonstrate and explain next video. Thanks for asking ! MMcC

I saw this question and I HAVE to open my mouth fingers. After studying Mr. McConville years ago and getting mind blowing results on my electrics thru plagiarising his every move I offered to intonate my buddy's $200 Seagull cuz I'd never done an acoustic. Not really into them. Once completed and after about 3 seconds of playing I realized that the reason I never liked them was cuz I'd never played one that was in tune, not even my friends 10 grand Taylor. Then the owner put one of those old Capos on the first fret, the kind u can't adjust for pressure. I was bewildered, every chord was exactly in tune. So I went 4th, 5th, 8th and 12th fret. All exactly in tune (maybe not to the tuner but relatively)whether I played D, G, A, E, major, minor, bar chords whatever. Now obviously this was fortunate and I haven't got the experience to say it'll happen twice but what I will say is that if u are able to achieve compensated intonation there's a pretty good chance that when u capo for the first time u will be very pleasantly surprised. Much gratitude and reverence Mr. McConville 🤘

Thank you Dale. Much appreciated. Lucas does make a good point Re; Compensated capo. Even I did actually Lol when I read his comment. I am sure that there are many others who are wondering the same thing. In my initial " compensated nuts in a nutshell " video from a few years ago .... I covered the reasons: #1 by design the nut needs to be high enough for the strings to clear the frets #2 this extra height at the nut is eliminated when using a capo #3 the typical "back pressure" from fretting the notes close to the nut is eliminated when you use a capo. #4 a lot of ( very good ) singer songwriters have intuitively used capos for this reason #5 this is why those garden variety first position chords always sound WAY more "in tune" with a capo. I hope that helps to clarify for you and Lucas and anyone else who may be wondering. Thank you for following my channel and posting these important questions + answers ! Cheers, MMcC
