I did the same demo in a store for hours and ultimately went with the Tribute. The tribute is cheaper but wasn’t really a consideration as I was demoing a modern Classic weight relieved body also. All of them sound beautiful but the tribute had a bit brighter and rounder sound that I was looking for. I love telecasters but for this application I didn’t want something quite so bright and for me the Tribute was perfect. I can’t put it down :)
Both guitars had a warm bottom end but the Tribute had more sparkle and clarity on top. I own a Traditional and Tribute Les Pauls and I'm now selling the traditional, the traditional has a tad more tone but the Tribute it's so PLAYABLE. The satin finish is gorgeous
I bought the 2020 tribute and couldn’t be happier. I think I watched this before I bought it lol. It’s brighter than the studio but not quite as warm, and I actually LIKE that for my style and what I play. It’s a fantastic guitar, worth the price and very close to the studio for like 3-400 bucks less. It’s basically just slightly different pickups with no binding or polished finish. Not much different imo. It’s a preference thing but if you were on the edge about if the tribute is worth it, it is!
For everything except the heavy Rock the tribute sounds very similar to a solid body les Paul. Some people say the solid body Les Paul with no weight relief sounds darker, but that is the sound of a real Les Paul and for the heavy Rock I think it sounds better. That being said I owned a norlin era Les Paul Custom for many years and it was extremely heavy (11lbs +)and no fun to have that on your neck/back all night, it sounded phenomenal though. I sold that guitar a few years ago and I'm seriously thinking about getting a Les Paul tribute. The Price is Right the weight is right the pickups are great and it sounds great, just not exactly the same as a solid body non chambered Les Paul (which is the sound of a real Les Paul in my opinion).
Just traded my LP Tribute for a Studio and if I am being honest the Tribute sounded way better. The cleans were more warm and full sounding. Just not loving the 498 pickup compared to the 490. Great video!
Was originally considering a Fender Ultra Stratocaster, now I think I’m sold on the Les Paul Tribute. It’s cheaper, plus has that great Gibson Les Paul sound and feel
It is funny because I was on a similar situation, I own a Player series strat and I was thinking about buying an Elite one, but now I think a Les Paul Tribute is a better choice for the price and in my country at least, it is 500 USD cheaper
I own a Tribute T and an American Professional Stratocaster. All differences aside, the Fender is simply a put better instrument. Much more solid, useable and workable electronics. My Tribute T has a couple trapezoids poking out of the fretboard and the pots became faulty quick. Granted, the Strat is abour 400$ more.
I bought an Iced Tea Tribute a couple weeks ago and I'm impressed. Its a great guitar. No, it doesn't weigh 10 or 11 pounds and I like that. Maybe the maple neck and weight relief help give it it's tone, IDK, but I like it. Mine is 7ib 13oz and very comfortable. The neck is a little thicker but I got used to it very quickly. Fit and finish are flawless and you could set the action so low it's ridiculous. And it stays in tune. Inflation is ridiculous and I sincerely believe it should come with a hard case but I'm happy with it.
In my opinion the Studio is a better guitar. Identical to the Standard without the expensive trim. You can always alter the tone with the guitar and amp controls if you like it brighter etc. However, it is more expensive than the Tribute and that's always an important consideration
That's cool if you prefer the Studio, but it is more like the tribute (weight relieved, nashville bridge, 498T v 490 T and both have 490R pickups). The standard has none of that.
I own a Gibson Les Paul tribute studio 2018 the sound is amazing that studio sounds good too they both sound good either way both guitars will be the best instruments you'll ever own
Waiting on my new Tribute to get here … giddy!! Have been an acoustic player most of my life, but I grew up at the foot of Dickey Betts and his incredible gold tops. Blue Sky … In Memory of Elizabeth Reed … ahhhhh. I’ve always wanted a Dickey Betts guitar but chose the Tribute in natural Satin finish … figuring it had the look. At this stage of my life, I think me and a T can be happy together, no matter what the requirements. Where are you honey???
Nice playing. I have the studio smokehouse burst. I will say that the studio sounds kind of muted and flat in your video compared to the tribute... but playing mine live it is plenty bright and clear. I definitely wouldn't want it to be any brighter. I pay my good friends Gibson Les Paul custom shop 59 and 60 guitars all the time and they are even less bright than my studio... the custom shops are warmer and fuller sounding compared to both the tribute and the studio. You can adjust some of the brightness and bass using EQ...
Not sure on the rough feel of the tribute, but I'm highly intrigued. Just purhcased the epiphone 59 (shows up tomorrow) and will promptly A/B it with the tribute from the store. I will keep whichever one I prefer. I admit I'm loving the tones from the tribute.
I recently chose between epiphone 1959 and tribute, but I am very entangled. I don't know which one I should buy,Do you have any suggestions, because their prices are not much different
@@uraniadike8367 I got the Gibson Les Paul tribute Cherry burst because it's better than the Epiphone 59 and I only paid $675 but even at twice the price i would still get the Gibson. I did however get the Epiphone Les Paul special TV single cut over the Gibson because in the testing the Epiphone Les Paul special TV single cut 2 of the p90's it's just easy better than Gibson which I didn't want to happen because I wanted the Gibson but the Epiphone I got was just way better wood and better p90's than the Gibson p90's but I did get the 2019 Gibson Les Paul special double cut cherry finish and that guitar was a keeper and better compared to the Gibson single cut so go figure !?🤷🏻♀️
Wood is the same the studio has the weight relief body and a 498t in the bridge rather than the 490t that comes in the tribute.490 Is alnico 2 and the 498 is alnico 5.
Pros and Cons of each: Tribute Pros: *Maple Neck is stronger and more resistant to the infamous headstock snapping issue. (personal pro) *Has a vintage look *Has a Rounded Neck *More affordable Tribute Cons: *No coil split *Doesn't have slim taper neck Studio Pros: *Has a coil split *Has a slim taper neck *Has more modern/cooler finishes Studio Cons: *Has a Mahogany neck (personal con) *Priced $400 more
Yo siempre he querido una Studio y mcuha gente las confunde con ma misma serie.... Yo digo que casi $400US de dif., suena magnifico la TRIBUTE y me encanta su sonido.
the tribute has maple neck, the studio mahogany neck... that is why the tribute sound more brightrer. is this brighter sound the real sound of a les paul or not? that is the question
The finish is different and the tuners are different. Also the Studio has a hotter pickup in the bridge. Otherwise pretty close to the same guitar. I bet if you put Burstbuckers in either of these they’ll sound almost identical to a Standard
I had a studio with bb pros and it sounded sterile and lifeless. They were better than my epi guitars but not nearly as good as my three PRS guitars. I sold it this year. I have played several tributes and they sounded better than more expensive gibsons to me... not sure if it's the pickups or the maple neck that makes the tributes sound better? I just ordered a studio with 490/490t pickups... I'll see if sounds any better than my guitar that had bb pros...if not sending back...
@@thadlogan51 I think it’s the thinner finish makes them sound live. I have a 50’s studio tribute from 2013 and it sounds really good but I’m fixing to swap the pups for 59 tributes. The 490 pickups in the new tributes are A2 magnets with even windings so you’re probably going to like them. The BBpros are A5 magnets with the screw coil wound hotter. A5 magnets have an even frequency response so that may be why they sound sterile to you.
@@therollband1290 the studio I had was the studio T... so had satin finish too. I'm not sure what it was but it didn't sound very good. I had it three years and then gave up on it. Again it sounded better than most guitars but side by side against my PRS core 24, ce 24, and PRS Chris Robertson it just sounded dead fish... plus went out of tune very easily. But I just ordered a new one smokehouse burst with the 490/498t combo... so hopefully better luck with the new pickups. FYI lots of custom shop gibson's have 490s in them... and standards have had them in the past too from my understanding. BB pros are nothing special...at least I don't care for them... though they can sound different in different guitars...
Also I really only bought another Gibson because I think prices of Gibson's are going to go up significantly over the next couple of years because of lack of supply of guitars due to covid. They fly off the shelves at guitar stores now and wood prices have skyrocketed. So I'll keep it for awhile then sell it. I paid $850 used in mint condition... so planning to make money off of it...sells for $1,500 new currently. So buy them cheap while you can!!!
I like the tribute has more teeth / edge, the studio has a round PRS sound. Does anyone know what pickups are in these exact two models. Because I thought the these worn brown studios are supposed to have burstbuckers which are brighter. And the 490 in tribute supposed to be darker. But in the video the studio sounds darker. Anyone ?
The Tribute has an modern weight relief body type with a little less wood material due to the cutted champers inside the guitar. The Studio has a whole, full body like the Les Paul Standart and Traditional. You can hear that in these sound comparision, some people always mentioned that a normal Les Paul acts in some parts too fat, too dark. The Studio with its lighter body doesn't have this behaviour.
