Our Europe Travel 2022 starts off with a bang in our Giethoorn Netherlands vlog. This Netherlands travel video will take you to this charming little village that is about two hours from Amsterdam, known as the Venice of the Netherlands. From our thatched roof and very quaint Airbnb, to bicycle rides through the countryside, a canal side lunch spot and then an adventurous boat ride through some treacherous weather, we show you some fun things in the Giethoorn area. A canal cruise is the best way to get to know the Netherlands. We hope you enjoy the start of our 9-month European adventure and also go back and check out our adventures in Central America and seeing all 50 states during our Airstream journey across America.

ABOUT US:
As the retirement travelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become travel vloggers and start a RU-vid channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.
In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

Thank you for yet another great video John and Bev!!! I watched it during my lunchbreak at work and I couldn't stop smiling! Too many points that I loved, but I'll list a few: 1. John playing classical piano! Wow! 2. Bev looking at the camera saying "it's not your fault honey" LOL! 3. John: "The snow is tickling my eyeballs!" LOL! 4. And the panic that set in me when your boat died! Thank you, thank you thank you for all the joy you bring and those infectious smiles of yours!

Despite some tough weather conditions, we had a wonderful experience in Giethoorn, Netherlands riding a whisper boat through the canals of this charming village. This is the start of a 9-month and 22 country adventure across Europe. Hope you can follow along! John and Bev

Thanks guys. The concern was real 😳. The battery power was going out and we were moving at a snails pace through terrible weather thinking we would get stuck on the lake!! Amazingly, the weather cleared, the swan landed in front of us and we inched our way back. Yes, fun story to tell. Hope all is well down under. ❤️ John and Bev

A bit of a change from your warm tropical weather! Man, I want to swim with some pigs! Wow, so many people rowing there. I would have thought those channels to be too narrow for so many people to want to paddle there - especially those racing kayaks. Doesn't seem like those boats have very much umph behind them, lol. Looks like that swan was sent to help guide you back home! What an amazing (and cold) adventure! You're right, a story telling moment indeed.

A big weather change for sure!! Netherlands is an interesting place. The rowers we’re doing some sort of competition and had to cut through the narrow sections to connect to bigger lake areas. Thanks as always for watching. John and Bev

You out did yourselves on this video. Loved the piano playing and other music. What a fun itinerary. What is your routine for settling in, getting groceries, etc.? How did you decide on this location rather than the more popular locations? It’s the mistakes that help make experiences rememberable.

Thanks for following along and the kind words of encouragement. We typically do some exploring near our Airbnb and make a grocery store trip for morning snacks. We usually eat just one meal out a day in the afternoon. We chose Giethoorn for a few reasons. We were flying into Amsterdam and have been there a few times. Giethoorn was only a couple hours away and looked so charming. Also, a few days in the Netherlands allowed us to adjust to the time change before we started our island hopping adventure in Greece. Hope you will enjoy our European adventure this year. John and Bev

We've had some similar weather of late so I could feel that April cold and snow -- brrr! We've found that the stories in our travels that go like this are the ones that continue to stand out. A sense of accomplishment after adversity! You made it back following a swan! How cool is that!! Looking forward to seeing more adventures.

Hi Guys, we were there in May, 2018. It is by far one of the most unique and memorable places we have traveled to. We trespassed on a bridge to take a photo and the owner of the house invited us in for a visit and a boat ride. He said he loves 'bold Americans.' I love your positive attitude, especially when things are not going so well. Can't wait to see where you are headed next.

I am with you on the pronunciation challenge 😉… I lived in Geleen Netherlands. It is three hours south of where you are, in the southernmost part of the Netherlands. And equally difficult to pronounce 🤣
