I bought the large “PRECISON” triangle, also had a chuckle at the spelling but the triangle square itself is quality. I find myself reaching for it regularly one of the main reasons is because it’s so accurate. Like you though I agree the packaging could be better, luckily it survived the transport from China.

😂 Crack up that spelling mistake innit? On the packaging, I did consider including the advice to order something else with it, about 400mm long, so they would tape to the triangle and help keep it flat! I didn't as I thought it sounded too much like a push to buy more stuff. 🤷‍♂️ Good tool though.

Awesome review, man! Thanks!!! 😊 But yeah, you won't use them everyday, but those are the kind of tools you get happy to have them when you most need! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

😂That's good to know. Kind of undermined it being a precision tool when it was spelled wrong.👍

@@BischBaschBosch BTW, I also got Banggood's "Aluminum Alloy Marking Ruler Woodworking Scriber Square Multi-function Measuring Ruler," which is a total and complete disappointment. The markings are off my at least a mm at the far end of the ruler, which of course makes it useless, except maybe as a straight edge, but I'd have to check that out first.

I got that dial indicator off of Father Christmas. It's a good bit of kit. My table saw blade is 100% parallel to the mitre slots.

Nice one! I decided for the sake of 1/100mm or so, it wasn't worth the trouble to try get it even closer. They are great for a proper tune up though. Can't wait to use it for servicing and rebuilding my over-router👍
@smorgasbord42
@smorgasbord42 3 месяца назад
I appreciate the anonymous call-out on tablesaw alignment! I agree it's fine for you to reference off your blade, not because you have a home-built tablesaw, but because your miter slot and blade are extremely well aligned (within 0.002mm!) and blades are very flat. I still think typical miter fence adjustment against the miter bar is actually easier to perform than against the blade, but skinning cats and all. BTW, some will argue that having the rip fence just slightly further from the blade (0.005mm in your case) in the back than the front is ideal - certainly better than having the rear of the blade slightly closer. Especially since you're referencing off the miter slot, not the blade. I also agree with your statements on the pricing of most large triangles - but they do have features for setting angles other than 45 & 90. But, I'm not putting that kind of money into them for that myself. OTOH, for ensuring the squareness of a large carcass during glue-up, that triangle does seem like it'd come in handy.
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 3 месяца назад
I was right to be questioned when doing the mitre fence I think. Like I said, I sometimes forget that, as a RU-vidr, all sorts of folk watch, and so, if you're doing anything unusual, you ought to say what is the more normal practice too - aligning off of the slot in this instance. Never my intention to mislead or misinform. I think it's just, as I'm busy, most of my YT filming is done quickly, ploughing through in my own little world to get it done. I don't always make as much sense of the footage when editing as I'd like. I'm happy to be kept honest - even if I moan about it!👍

I have the triangle from Temu for $40. 1. I’m disappointed in the ledge not being perfectly straight. The fault is due to the groove being too deep. That causes the ledge to have less meat. Which makes it “wavy” and not straight. Your point-contact method of testing with the bench dogs is one scenario of use. Another test is the full-contact method where the ledge is fully in contact with the mating surface. That’s the fence-to-track scenario you had shown. Because the ledge is not fully straight, I do the Fence-to-Track calibration without the ledge. 2. Did you notice the fasteners for the Ledge are in the way of bearing it on the edge of a board? You cannot randomly use either side of the ledge because of those protruding fasteners. 3. The Ledge and the Edge of the Triangle are not flush. The Ledge stops short of the edge of the triangle. Thankfully that is the desired flaw, if there has to be a defect. I do appreciate and have high quality tools from TSO and Woodpeckers. In this case, the Triangle is just going to be used for layout, and not for measuring. I’ve found the China tools do not have accurate scales for measurements. And I do not trust China manufacturing for router bits and power tools. For my targeted usage, with the price and value points, and even with the three flaws, I decided to keep the triangle. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experiences with the China tools. Every bit helps to inform our decisions.

Thanks for sharing you experience. First thing I check is that all edges are straight with a precision straight edge. My triangle and it's stock were both straight. I know what you mean about housing in the stock being very deep. Could be of concern if you were to continually remove it, making it prone to damage but, I keep mine attached. Thankfully my screw heads don't protrude at all. They're clear of each reference edge by about half mm. Not a lot but enough. I had no intention of using this for measurement, not least because its imperial only so I didn't even concern myself with its accuracy in that regard. With regards Chinese tools and machining accuracy mire generally, like everywhere, you get the production you pay for. There are cheap, often dissappointing Chinese tools, and premium ones. Hongdui a good example of the later. Their products easily comparable to offerings from Harvey, Jessem etc. Not to mention all the premium tech sold in the West, manufactured in China. Their problem isn't manufacturing or engineering prowess. I think it's more that they don't particularly get, or "do" brands. Woodpeckers for example understand that their brand - and the (often ludicrous) premium they attach to it - lives or dies via the quality of every item they make. Outside of the domestic market, it's very hard to find companies like that in China. Veiko for example make some excellent quality, accurate tools for an excellent price. They also fill out their range with some rubbish. Hongdui seems to be a change on that front. One to watch.

Great review and honest feed back, i just dont understand how a company can justify such a large price tag when good old china can sell for such a low price
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 3 месяца назад
Thanks mate. There's a few reasons for higher prices from say UK and US. Premium manufacturers will often use premium grade material. Labour costs and other expenses for manufacturers are less in China. Premium manufacturers will also test each tool on a CMM machines and precision references before dispatching, something the budget manufacturers from China won't be doing. Stuff like that all adds up.

Just had a look at the Bench dogs square which is over three times the price but does come with some dogs and pins. It has more functions than this Chinese square so it is not the same product. If you will use the extra functions the Bench dogs square may not be expensive.

@@johnclements6614 Yeah, Peter Millard did a video on the BD triangle. It is feature packed and well thought out. The TSO has a few other features too. Personally, I just wanted one for the larger 90 degree reference edges so happy with the BG one. The flimsy box it comes in might present a risk of damage though. 🤷‍♂️

Surprised at the shipping cost of the square,as I’ve never paid that much through Banggood. I put it in my cart out of interest, and to Australia it costs $4.50 (£2.35), and free if I’d spent a few dollars more. Usually we’re the ones that pay the “tuther side at wurld tax”.😂
@BischBaschBosch
@BischBaschBosch 3 месяца назад
Caught me a bit off guard, the price of shipping to UK. I think sometimes they do s balancing act - they reduce the item price and hike the postage🤷‍♂️ Like you say though, they have a policy of "spend £40 for free shipping". I should've mentioned that. And yeah, I've noticed Aus seems to incur a bottom of the world tax...mostly 👍
