Loving those acoustic panels. Very classy. Wish I'd thought of better options like that for my studio. I went for mostly foam panels, and also built four rockwool-based bass traps for the annoying low frequency tangential modes. They work very well considering the homebrew construction.

They are very well packaged. I got some recently and was sweating like a pig by the time I got them unpacked. It's ten times more work to unpack than to hang, but that's a good thing since they aren't going to be damaged when you get them.

very nice looking etc and probably the do work well, but i dont think you can call them bass traps. What is the absorption coefficient at low frequencies? I think for a broad frequency absorption and some ''diffusion'' they must be good, but for the low frequencies you need mass, density,volume or and phase cancelation via pressure management, Helmholtz, membranes etc
@davespeakmanmusic
@davespeakmanmusic 3 года назад
Hello. GIK call them bass traps, not me! I think the information you asked for is on GIK's website... :-)
@mpasistasyalanci
@mpasistasyalanci 3 года назад
@@davespeakmanmusic i was just looking there, yeah they call them bass traps, but they also have some other types that are actual bass traps that are working from as low as 30- 40 hz and have a ''peak'' around 100. Those can tackle the problems at low frequencies, the nodes of the room etc. For those you have, they dont show any measurement below 100hz (the bass area) but they work well at the ''low mids'' so maybe by eliminating a bit the second harmonic of the lows you can feel a better low end definition. How did you experienced the change in that areas? Nice studio by the way. I will move out to a new apartment and im going to built a room there, so now i am melting my eyes in front of the pc screen to find solutions and ideas
@davespeakmanmusic

I built some corner traps, didn't cost much. The GIK stuff is really nice, but you could build them easily enough if you have the time...
@CrochetNewsNetwork
@CrochetNewsNetwork 5 месяцев назад
To get real bass trap efficiency it’s better to spend a little more an have a subwoofer in each corner. Using insulation for bass trapping would require almost 5 feet of thickmess in all corners.

@davespeakmanmusic

Not really. This is acoustic treatment. Sound proofing requires you to add mass to the wall.

They aren’t foam, they’re mineral wool in a wooden frame covered in material. The front diffuser is made of MDF...

@@davespeakmanmusic okay I was trying to build for me, so asked because building wooden frame is tiresome. 😂
@davespeakmanmusic
@davespeakmanmusic 3 года назад
I have built quite a few panels over the years. The easiest way to do it is with metal corner brackets to construct a simple frame the same size as your rock wool bale. You need a really good staple gun to cover them properly. Simple enough but the GIK ones are good value for money when you include the time in. I bought a load more for the live room too. They’re great.

@@davespeakmanmusic I checked the link you mentioned and it seems like GIK has foam based also on which they pasted diffuser mdf board onto the foam. And that's it they have data for efficacy too

@davespeakmanmusic
@davespeakmanmusic 3 года назад
If you have time, basic acoustic panels are easy enough - sure. The diffusers would be more difficult as would the panels with diffusers on the front. The GIK panels are good value for money, I can definitely earn more money in the time it would take me to build them than they cost (after subtracting materials). I have built a few panels myself but actually went on to buy more panels from GIK as I was so happy with them and didn’t have time to build them myself. The panels with diffusers on the face look amazing too.
@officialWWM
@officialWWM 3 года назад
davespeakmanmusic I'm not convinced that the diffuser panels actually do anything. They are nice patterns but they aren't mathematically designed. I can buy similar Cnc cut sheets from my hardware store for about $40 I might whack a couple on some of my panels and see if they do anything. I built 14 panels in one day and a curved panel diffuser in a day but I do have a well equipped workshop and I enjoy making things.

@@officialWWM I’d love to see, there’s no such thing as too much DIY acoustic panel videos lol. I’m always curious what material and fabrics people use and fhe build in general. Do you use stonewool/viberglass/denim or perhaps something else? And what type of fabrics do use use for the cover/ type of wood for the frames?

If you have time to build them, you can. They do look awesome tho - better than any home built ones I’ve seen. I have a mixture of ones I’ve built and GIK ones. Having the GIK ones all down one wall looks slick. If I factor in £30 per hour build time, there’s not much in it.
