Stephen A. Smith’s response was absolutely shameful. He didn’t refute a single thing Whitlock said. Instead he spent an entire hour attempting to assassinate Whitlock’s character, going so far as to portray him as the equivalent of a KKK member. He used language and tactics entirely unbecoming of his character in response to someone posing questions about his history as an athlete and insinuating that he obtained his stature in the media world by being a face instead of by way of being a highly credentialed sports reporter. BUT WE ALREADY KNEW THAT TO BE TRUE AND NOBODY CARED. He’s not Shams or Woj or Bobby Marks. He’s popular because he’s highly entertaining and derives much of his knowledge of sports from others admittedly better informed than himself. THAT is his brand. I don’t believe that anyone cares whether or not he was a successful athlete himself. No one ever thought he was one even if they do believe his story. The fact that that is the hill he’s willing to die on makes me believe his character is a farce, a facade, an illusion, and anyone who proclaims such things will be personally attacked in a malicious, bordering on malevolent manner. He loses all credibility in my eyes. And it’s a damn shame. Because, he is, or was, the most entertaining man in all of sports.

Like it or not Whitlock told the truth. There are a lot of inconsistencies in Stephen A Smith's story. First he said he averaged 1.5ppg in college but only played 1 game which is impossible, then he said he never played a single game because he ruined his knee.
