Through three preseason games, Bates is averaging 12.6 points per game while shooting 52% from the field and 45% from the 3-point line. Bates helped the Cavs win the NBA Summer League championship. Bates has plenty of potential as a scorer. Cavs got a big steal selecting him, may not be NBA-ready just yet but has a ton of potential. But going that far for him becoming the 2nd option for CAVS is a bit far 😂😂😂
Its mainly because of size, he is like 6"11 that weighs 175. Thats a small frame. He still young as hell. So he should start getting bigger in the next few years. Once he gain bout 30 pounds he gonna be a problem. KD 2.0 potentially.
They were on point until Gil said Bates coming up means Donovon (or whoever at the 2) is gone. Small forward is a gaping whole in that lineup and Donovon is certified
Almost every fan says this about any sport. But I truly can’t wait for the season to start it’s so many storylines to watch and a lot of teams to watch this year. Can’t wait. Stay healthy everyone and ball out.
Prime example of why just because guys hooped at the highest level does not mean their eye for talent is also there. I remember mccants said bol bol was better than Chet…
They're overeating Emoni Bates. He's just a good 3 point shooter with potential to be a deadly shooter. Plus Garland isn't a hybrid. He's a legit point guard
I agree with you on Garland he’s a true PG but Bates a walking bucket he bypassed his senior year in high school played 2 years in college if he works on his defense and get stronger he’ll be a problem to deal with
You obviously haven’t watched bates that kid is a bucket I agree garland is an actual point maybe not a true point like a cp3 or rondo but he is a legit pg
I’m a Cavs fan and I love Emoni game but he not taking DG spot at the 1 DG is a True PG with elite level playmaking you can see it on tape and in the numbers. Emoni has elite scoring potential and at best he’ll be a solid passer but not enough to run the 1. Best case scenario he can take Donovan spot if he do end up leaving or fill out and be the 3 if Donovan stays.
@@LaMar34_34 yeah everybody including Emoni himself knows he’s a wing because of his height and length. Even if he was shorter nothing about his game says PG. Gil missed on this one bad
Wouldn’t be surprised honestly, he fits with them and there time frame more anyway, Mobley is 22 (who will be the best on this team), Garland a future superstar and Bates has superstar potential as well. Who fits perfect with they skill set
Man look, I’m always rooting for guys like emoni but he is not gonna be the face of the Cavs. It’s not impossible but I see him being a MPJ kind of player. Mobley and Garland are the faces and Spida if he stays
Keeping them all becomes extremely expensive if Bates turns into what we think he can that’s like paying 3 all stars you see how hard it is to build role players and a bench paying 3 all stars especially with people being paid more than ever.
Two 6'1" guards ain't gon get it done they a defensive liability, so realistically you gotta pick one or get one to come off the bench Think Lillard and Cj tried for years. You don't need two scoring guards one gotta play some defense. Kobe and Mj 6'6" shooting guards.
Hope he does well Gil has a terrible eye for talent that actually contributes to winning so I hope him being high on Emoni doesn't jinx him. If he buys in heavily to becoming a top tier defender he can go to all star level then potential hall of fame.
Mobley is a great defender. Potential DOPY but he has to get more consistent with his jumper. But he got more than enough time to grow. But the first 5 years of nba players careers typically determines their role on the team. So we will see.
@@johnbrown4447 and he’s living close to home. Plus. Cavs have some of the best top end talent in the league with one of the best top 6 rotations around. The rumours make no sense
I dont see it, he is a pure scorer who is streaky at best when shooting from the games i have seen. If all you can do is score, you are destined to be a role player, six man. He would have to develop court vision and become an above average defender to be the star of the Cavs.
With nba spacing he has been taking & making better shots. I don’t expect him to be as streaky in the league. He definitely needs toimprove defensively to get that starting 3 spot. I don’t see him being the star, but eventually the 3rd option that they were waiting for Evan Mobley to be is in play for sure
@@jonathanbradley3633 i can see him coming off the bench like early Harden or Jordan Clarkson. Just a spark plug that can get a team out of a shooting slump or apply pressure on the second unit.
@@CutToTheMarrow yeah if he doesn’t improve defensively that will probably be his ceiling. Defense is going to be the key for him. If he becomes average to above average defender that’s exactly what they need at the 3 spot. They need floor spacing & a big wing who can defend with those 2 small guards. He doesn’t need to be an elite defender either the 2 rim protectors on the floor, just be able to hold his own against the bigger scorers Mitchell & garland can’t guard. It’s not guaranteed but he has a path to getting real minutes here on a team trying to win now & build for the future. I think he is in a great situation.
I'm a wizards fan by birth. I wish you were involved young player development. Not treating guys like your equal, but as your son. You have a natural ability of being seen as authentic. That ability is priceless
Love the Bates hype but he's not threatening DG or Spida's spot on the team. If anything, Strus and Okoro should be concerned, because he'd be slotting in at SF, and getting minutes at SG as needed. Realistically though, he won't start this year for the Cavs anyway. But if Strus isn't shooting lights out this year, I could see Bates start to steal some minutes later in the season.
I fw Emoni but ever since Chet gave him buckets when they played in high school he fell off and thought the streets was it ...go hoop makie millions bro im proud of emoni
Must have not watched Emoni when he was at Eastern Michigan. He was a poor defender, who was a volume shooter on poor efficiency. He was drafted basically on potential. Perhaps his game adapts better in the pros better than college. It's rare, but it can happen. Wish him the best though: focus on improving, getting a bit stronger, and being an integral part of Cleveland's success.
Gilbert doesn’t even watch most NBA teams andYou think he’s watching a MAC basketball game? Dude saw him knock down a few jumpers in high school and now he’s on the bandwagon.
In 4 minutes Gil went from 2nd round to second option, on a playoff team, replacing Donovan or Darius He's hilarious, if you take him seriously, it's on you🤣
😂😂 Jokic was a 2nd round pick averaged less than 10 points as a rookie. I'm sure you're in the "best player in the league" crowd. It happens. Emoni was a 17 year old freshman and an 18 year old sophomore. He reclassified. Many years to grow his game and mature.
I believe his ceiling is Brandon Ingram but he has a lot of work to develop the potential is there for sure... he can be a good role player... he is also young, he is 20 atm So he can still be a very good player if he puts the work In and has the right mentality
I have this argument almost every day and ppl still don’t see how good he was and is and how he was the 49th pick they say he deserve it he not good wtf his game speak for itself
Emoni bates' trajectory would be similar to MPJ. He has too much talent to be ignored or stashed on the bench. Not gonna get a ton of minutes his rookie and soph year but he is going to play and showcase.
3moni gonna fulfill his prophecy. Just found out he can't run for Rookie of the Year because of his contract... If Rubio stays away I'd flip that contract REAL quick to a full time. Then give Cooper or Travers a real shot at playing in the NBA and seeing if they can cut their teeth with the rest of em on the real deal. Super excited for this Cavs season!
That underdog promotion is real, I opened an account and added $400 and they matched my $400.. I thought it would probably take about a day or so, but that $800 showed up once the sign-up was done. Shouts to underdog though, I ended up getting my money back the same day. I forfeited the bonus cause certain features isn't available in certain states in the US. (Yet) And drafting players isn't my thing, maybe once they've gotten a sports book I'll try back. I still should be good for that bonus cause I didn't use it. 🤷🏿♂️😁😁✌🏿
The biggest problem isnthe college game is nothing like highschool or the Pro game. In fact, highschool is closer to Pro than college. 5 stars should go straight to G league or sit out until they are drafted.
Bates can easily play the SF position. Why get rid of Garland or Mitchell? Mitchell may leave regardless but he doesn't need to be traded in order for Bates to play..
I feel like you guys are overhyping Emoni bates. Dont get me wrong I'm a huge Cavs fan been one since 2013, but I feel Bates potential is being a quality role player and potentially becoming a starter level player, but All Star or HOF is crazy.
Saying neither one is really a PG is crazy Garland is the man a true PG and elite at it too one of the few true PG left in todays game. Mitchell can go DG was drafted and developed by us and his ceiling is higher at the one than Mitchell’s is. DG and Bates would be the better combo than Mitchell and Bates cuz Garland is a facial ying scorer who can light it up but his game is predicated off of passing first. Mitchell is a scorer so is Bates so it would be a bad combo
You was in da NBA when I was broke ........SIKE!!!! I been paid . Put the heat in his face , give em flashbacks of D.Wade.😂😂😂😂😂 . Gil y'all kill me with that SupaHotFire skit.
Take this entire take with a grain of salt…all Gilbert does is see someone score a few buckets and he thinks they’re all star bound. Prime example of why he never left the second round. More to the fckin game than scoring
He don’t need to take garland or Mitchell spot there #1 guy is Mitchell whose a proven player in the league garland is the passer/ shooter and with Allen and mobley there solid come in a be the 3rd wheel and improve your stock
It's honestly his fault. The moment he took his commitment back from the Michigan State University everything went down hill. If he had of came to Lansing he probably would have been a champion n a literally pick in the draft.
