I knew Gilda. She was genuine and a true lady in every sense of the word. She and Gene were made for each other. Two beautiful people, inside and out. Lord, I miss them. Until we meet again, enjoy home!
She still is my favorite from ‘Saturday Night Live’ past and present shows!! Several years ago, I bought several gift cards that had her voice doing her ‘Roseanne Roseannadanna’ character. I kept one for myself, just to listen to her doing her famous routine (I listened so often, that it stopped working). Yes, if they had made a Roseanne Roseannadanna talking doll..... I would have bought one.
I was a teenager when she was on Saturday Night Live. No matter what we were doing on Saturday night, it stopped and we had to watch Saturday Night Live. Gilda had many characters, but Roseanne Roseannadanna was everyone's favorite. RIP, Gilda.
@@gracieg7601 Yes, she managed to find the humor in life even while dying of ovarian cancer and knowing her time with her true love Gene Wilder was limited and full of restrictions.
When Rosie O'Donnell was starting out in standup, she at first went by Roseanne O'Donnell, but had to change when audiences were disappointed because she was not Gilda's character. True story.
I think Gilda was the very funniest of the original cast - she made the others seem funnier, not that they weren't !! Such a huge talent taken away from us way too soon, her death nearly killed Gene Wilder who never got over her death.
It's a rare talent. Chris Farley was another with that talent. The others were funnier because they could rarely keep a straight face in his presence. They are both gone way too soon!
Years ago I drove for a crb company in NYC and we had an account with Saturday Night Live. I picked up Gilda several times and she was one of the sweetest ladies I'd ever met!!
What a beautiful light she was. Gone to soon. No one every again like Carson either. Two comedic geniuses together. This was wonderful to watch again. ♥️
And RIP Johnny Carson too. I love the look on his face when she's talking. I'm not sure any of our current hosts could respond to the shyness in a talent like hers with such genuine warmth.
I loved her. Not many celebrities that have passed have I cried about when finding out they have died. When Gilda died. I balled like I lost my own mother. She was a gem in this world.
This is the first time that I have ever seen Gilda Radner as anything other than a character. It is obvious that she was a very sweet and honest person. I wish I could known you but I was just a kid. Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did.
THANK YOU for uploading this. This was Gilda's only "Tonight Show" appearance. So wonderful. Gene did the show in 1970 - his only appearance - with David Steinberg as guest host. Sadly, most shows from that period are lost. So nice to see Johnny being such a fan of hers.
@@JackiePhillipsTheSocialPet When I was writing my Gene Wilder biography - "Gene Wilder: Funny and Sad" - I spoke to Johnny's nephew, Jeff Sotzing (great guy!), and asked if Gene was ever a guest. He could not recall but IMDb listed Gene as being on the show in 1970 with David Steinberg guest hosting. Jeff said a lot of shows from that time just were not saved and are lost forever - a real shame. I spoke to David (another nice guy) and he confirmed Gene was on with him.
amazing how much culture changes over time.. we are no longer the funny and spontaneous types like these two talented people.. these videos are a treasure as we witness the country and culture that once existed with entertainment on television is no longer!!
Shortened attention spans are the main issue. Gotta have constant mugging for the camera, fake applause every few seconds, over-the-top attention-whoring & of course the commercials every few minutes to make advertisers happy. The dumbing down of a nation in real time :(
Yes the originals were the best and even ‘for 10-15 years more but since after it was awful! The humor became lame. Seems they actually forgot how to make people laugh. And yes people today seem afraid to be real or afraid of expression. What comes out is contrived.
One of the few famous people I can say I cried a little bit (or a lot) when she died. Just an amazing, funny, sweet woman who so many people loved. Have to wonder how much more she might have done. Loved you Gilda.
It had no choice! You had the TITANS OF COMEDY not just movies and television, with the exception of Richard Pryor. Everyone else white black female whatever, was on SNL in the 80s! You had HALF OF THE GHOSTBUSTERS FOR GOD SAKES! It would’ve been 3/4 of them but Eddie turned down the Winston Zeddmore role. How could you possibly have FAILED with all that talent? Impossible.
I remember how hard it was on Gene. Years later I was glad and a little bit surprised to hear Gene say how happy he was in his current marriage. He said he absolutely loved Gilda, but that life style was very stressful.
She was not only a kind, caring person she was a fantastic entertainer...left us way, way too early. Thank God for video that we can still see today....I loved her....RIP, Gilda.
Always loved Gilda, she died too young, 42. Liked her saying, "If it aint one damn thing it's another." Great that she got to spend the last years of her life with the love of her life Gene. Also have a picture of me with Johnny, circa 70's when he toured our plant, when he bought his Learjet. So exciting.
I apologize for correcting you, but the saying you reference is actually, "It's always something". I believe this was passed on to Gilda by one of her parents, and was the name of another book she wrote, which I gladly possess.
I still miss Gilda to this very day!! Just look at that infectious smile!!! The beautiful, out-going attitude!! There will NEVER be another "Gilda!" 😢😢
I loved her on SNL as a kid, but never saw her in an interview. I love her even more. What a genuine, honest, funny, wonderful woman. Unfortunately those are the ones that leave us too soon.
The light was greatly dimmed when Gilda passed away. She could make me laugh just by walking into a room. I still grieve her early demise. She had so much more to give and be rewarded for with her talent .
Gilda's fame as a comedienne never changed her as a person, as those who knew her universally said; the sweetest and kindest lady to work with and to know. Gilda & Gene will be loved eternally by all.
I’m in my mid-30’s and Gilda is one of my comedy idols. She simply is in a league of her own and always will be. She never shied away from physical comedy and transformed herself into all these unique, unbelievably funny characters and she goes ALL in which is paramount in comedy. I love Gilda and wish she was still with us
One of my ALL TIME favorite acts on Saturday Night Live was when Gilda Radner & Steve Martin were dancing (mostly spontaneously) all over the stage, trying to dance likel Fred Astaire & Cyd Charisse! Steve was tap dancing like crazy, and Gilda was doing the same. He tried to hoist her up in the air, and nearly killed himself & her too, but they kept dancing & dancing! Hilarious! 👍😂😂😂👏👏👏👏😘 What a CLASSIC!!! It’s like Johnny said ... “I laughed so hard, I almost did things grown up’s shouldn’t do!” Miss you Gilda & Johnny! And, Gene Wilder, too! 😢 R.I.P. 🌺
A true talented treasure We were lucky to have her make us laugh all those years on SNL She comes across here as just a genuinely good person with a gentle smiling soul Thank you Gilda and thank you Johnny I think both of you were alot alike
Yeah, I love Gilda Radner too. Such a talent and such a sweetheart. What a horrible injustice life dealt her, while countless scum live on. Thanks so much for this clip.
I'll always remember her wonderful tribute to the NYC firefighters on SNL. Also she did the voice of the witch for a Halloween cartoon. She was so funny, even just as a voice.
Great girl from my hometown of Detroit MI. Obviously I never met her or Gene Wilder but if I was going to just sit down for a regular type dinner with famous folks I don't think I could do better than a night with Gene and Gilda. They both seemed to have a genuine humility to them. RIP Gilda. You achieved your goal of making Saturday night special and made the world a better place for the effort. You are missed by those who remember.
Gilda Radner 😢💔 Was one of the best and greatest comedians around. She's amazing and incredible talented, we lost her too soon. R.I.P. My beautiful angel 😇
I guess I had never seen Gilda Radner out of character, and I'm glad I happened upon this clip. She was human, vulnerable, and very appealing, and Johnny was his usual masterful self. How sad we lost her at such a young age.
