Gillette 1940s Super Speed Follow Up

After cleaning and sanitizing, I had a chance to use this Gillette Super Speed form the 1940s. It appears to be from the year 1948 or 1949. Gillette didn't start putting date codes on their razors until 1950 (or thereabouts). So, 1948/1949 is the closest estimation. My thanks to the guys on the Badger & Blade forum for helping to identify the manufacture date.
The razor is wonderful! I highly recommend adding this 1940s era Gillette to your collection!

I scored a 1948 or 49 for 2.95 cents on a bid win on eBay . Keep looking they are around .

40s style Super speed is the best Super speed ever (and also one of the best Gillette razor ever!), it is more efficient and more smooth than latter versions (just my opinion and expirience).

Recently got one for $16 on eBay. A 1940s no date code model. Metal has a lot of stains and is not as pretty as yours but it still gives good shaves at least. Cool video

Just got one of these non-dated 40's style super speed in mint condition from Ebay . I love how these things shave now I'm on a hunt for a few more. Simply can't beat these classics in terms of quality and overall looks..

Excellent! You'll be quite happy with it.:) I used one of my 1940s Super Speeds this morning and had a really nice shave.:) Quite comfortable.:) No nicks or cuts. Zero irritation.:)

In addition to getting the Flare Tip, I'm also getting a Blue Tip and Red Tip Super Speed. But those are coming in a few days or a couple or few weeks.

Now that you mention it, Anthony, I don't think so. I've done shaving videos with my late father's Super speed. But, I think you may be correct. Time to do a video with this razor.;)

I have the same exact one!! I met this nice guy on “The Shave Den” Fourm (I got kicked out of B&B) little baby’s but any way he sent me all this stuff for free! Talk about paying it Foward!!! I received Some Stirling And razorock samples a bunch of popular blades an Arko Stick And Williams mug. Not to mention my very first Vintage Gillette! It’s a SuperSpeed, The plastic bag he sent to me and said (L-1) but I looked it up and I beleive L-1 is 1966 but mine looks exactly like the one in this video? Lol

The Gillette Vintage Razors are the best shavers ever. I love all the super speeds. The best balanced razor ever.

@@MarkSzorady I used to have a shaving channel on here. I was rock n shaver dano. I'm just Dan now. I had found my groove with those. After 5 or so years I'm just now figuring out what soaps/blades I like best. I like the synthetic brush. I miss treasure hunting so it was just cool to stumble upon these videos again.

@@MarkSzorady I certainly did and still do to a degree I had sold and traded some. I just need to find my birthcode razor I've never seen a B-1. I'd use any Gillette any day over any new razor. I do like the merkurs and muhle safety razors.

Mark Szorady it’s not bad. The doors open smoothly. There is slight discoloring on the handle, but overall, good shape. To be honest, it doesn’t have to be mint shape. The flaws that someone else might not like to me give it character. Two weeks ago I got a black tip and a black handle superspeed for $10.00 each. The black tip gives a really nice comfortable shave. It might be the smoothest razor I own.

@@timwittkopp3054 I agree. Although while some vintage razors look absolutely gorgeous after a cleaning and re-plating, original condition has a good deal of charm.:) I like that too.:) Congrats on some really nice deals.:)
