Gillette Flare Tip SuperSpeed 1966 | Old Spice Original Shaving Cream 

Paul, My grandfather shaved with the gillette super speed 1957 and 1960.

Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements makes a tribute to the Shulton Old Spice original scent called Cold Spices. Supposed to be pretty spot on with the added cooling effect of menthol.

I know what you mean Paul about missing spots around the lips, drives me crazy too!

I was gifted a tube of Super-Max shving cream so i made a great bowl lather out of that. Paired it with my Proraso Green Lotion and it was a really good match. Have a great rest of the week!

Top shave, Paul. I really enjoy when you use your vintage Gillette razors. Of all the razors in my collection, the vintage Gillettes are my favorite and still deliver the best shaves for me. I wish Old Spice would bring back their mug and soap in the original Shulton scent. I've some travel coming quickly upon me, considering this cream for the dopp kit. SOTD - J2 Slim (7-5-3), Astra Green (2), Kirk's Castile pre-shave, Arko stick, Clubman Bay Rum, Nivea balm.

Nicely done Paul💈💈 A bit of a let down on the scent of that tube of Old Spice eh😒, has happened to many vintage scents..sad. My SOTD today was WeiShi longhandle, Astra green blade, Omega S brush and a melange of Stirling soap (I had several samples in my lather cup and don't even know what scent it is anymore), alum (because I nicked myself for the first time this year), Gold Bond for post followed by dollar store knockoff of Old Spice. We are not supposed to shop except for essentials, so I am using stock on hand. I do have a refill puck of Stirling Spice I plan to use when the samples are gone. Too bad that Old Spice was a disappointment, I was thinking of buying some.

Since the 'Orange' shave, I notice the colour co-ordination continues. I think it's time the rebellion starts now! Time to get on to Old Spice and tell them to sort it out! Too many of us know Old Spice is nothing like the 'Original' and we need to know what the hell they were thinking. Cheers again Paul and even Linda's in on the Old Spice 'fraud'. When i bought the old spice from India, it had the original old spice scent. That is not mild, but medium razor blue mild, red heavy

I do agree the Original Old Spice Shaving Cream is lacking the original scent, but does give a smooth shave.

I love the scent of this cream and it’s performance. Paired with a vintage Gillette razor, it is a great shave! I don’t have a memory of the original but from what I understand they make a “Classic” scent in their aftershave that may be closer to what you remember.

Just a suggestion: for the month of May since you make 8 videos a month could you do your favorite 8 Vintage Gillettes in descending order? I along with many others would love to see that! Cheers 🍻💈😁✌️💈

Good morning 🌞!!! Fantastic effort by the Mrs! Awesome shave too!!! This cream is definitely no where near Old Spice Shulton, but it protects well and smells great for what it is. I bought 5 tubes of it, and use it in my travel kit, and sometimes at home. I'm probably going to use the Slim Adjustable today for the SOTD, with some Truefit and Hill Trafalgar across the board. Yes I like the older Gillette razors too Paul only I like a long-handled one's because I have a limited range of movement in my right arm my favourite Gillette is my Super Slim Adjustable 109 Black Beauty with a Gillette Siver Blue blade - my go-to combo at the moment. Oh yes Thayers my favourite follow up the medicated one woo-hoo

When ever you bring out the captain bowel you know it’s going to be a good shave alas what a shame it didn’t pass the Paul test. Still a good vid. SOTD is on hold yup I find if you give it a week come round the next week it feels amazing now we are in lock down. I’m still working but don’t see many people just staff members so there use to seeing me unshaven. I’m loving lock down as driving to work is supper quick and the sky’s are BLUE no pollution.

I almost bought that cream and read the reviews which changed my mind. A lot of people were mad about the scent being so far off from original old spice but everyone did say it performed well.

I guess I will be annoyed, too since I bought the same cream and only for the smell (I have not used it...). I have a bunch of these razors, probably one of each...., and then got some made in the UK, too. Those have A, II and some other print, nicely made and cannot tell a difference between them (in shaving). Currently using a Fatip Lo Storto (Slant), not better than the original Fatip OC. Crystal is the blade and usually a synthetic brush. Head and face shaving....so I need a lot of lather. Cheers mate and keep it going.....

I very much like the Gillette black tip razor you mentioned. I just received one of those, and it is a very forgiving razor. My regular Flare Tip, such as you use here is from 1954, I think. Looks like you had a nice shave.

Hi Paul nice shave yes I have tried the old spice shave cream does not smell like old spice that's why I did not bother buying the Indian version of old spice aftershave but I may have been wrong not too maybe in the future I have a flair tip blue one I think the paint has come off but it still has little specs of blue left take care and enjoy the rest of your week 😀

SOTD: I tried using a Rolls Razor that my dad gave to me but I didnt get it quite sharp enough so I switched to my gillette superspeed, no date code but I think it's from 1946. Tried a shark super chrome for the first time, not sure how I feel about it yet. In the end I got a close shave with minimal irritation, I'll take that!

The scent is like the India OS. I heard they don't like our OS scent... It's a shame, but still y the cream is one of the best i know! Performance is awesome!

What a shame that it doesn't smell like old spice. when they were available I used old spice in a can and that smelled just like the original and had a very nice lather. I also like the old Gillette razor's that's all I use.

I purchased two tubes of that about a year and a half ago, it works, but doesn't smell like Old Spice original☹ It is thirsty for a cream. Be well everyone!

OCD, that’s me. I know that three passes is all my skin can stand, yet I find myself doing cleanups that turn into a forth pass. All in pursuit of the BBS shave when I already have a DFS shave. I started shaving in 1967 or 1968 with a Gillette adjustable and Gillette Blu Blades. If I ever find one in good shape I’m going to buy it. Not to shave with, but to put in a shadow box to hang on the wall.

I was given by a WWII vet an old spice refill puck that is in a round cardboard container unlike the square ones I’ve seen that is dated back to the early forties. It has never been opened so I’m hesitant to use it. Has anyone seen one like it or does it belong in a museum?

“BBS” is the closest shave. It doesn’t stand for “Bleeding Blood Shave”. Like you said-one can’t get any closer than blood.😱😂

Good evening Paul! Nice floral arrangement...thank you Mrs. H! Those colors are calming. The only original scented Old Spice shave soap/cream was manufactured before June 1990. The Gillette Flare tip super speed is a nice shaver indeed. I have a 1958 Flare tip that has always delivered a great shave. Its only flaw I believe is a slight misalignment in the TTO doors...at some point I will have it sent out for adjustment. I went into my blade collection and found a 1951 Gillette Thin (uncoated carbon) blade, stropped on denim to remove any micro-corrosion, and loaded into a razor handle. Those are very good blades if one can ignore the slight plucky feeling (a good kind of plucking...not ouch) from an uncoated blade slicing through whiskers. IMHO, those blade leave the best post shave face feel. SOTD: EJ 3ONE6 loaded with a 1951Gillette Thin (uncoated carbon) blade (2nd use). Fine American Blend shaving soap lathered with a That Darn Rob 24 mm BOSS brush. 3 passes plus pick-ups. Finished with Thayer's AF SF skin toner (the last of it for now) and PAA CaD aftershave. BBS++ result. That was a very satisfying shave Paul. I know the Old Spice cream was a disappointment scent-wise...pity. Keep yourself safe and healthy please. Take care.

It’s a shame about the Old Spice cream. My razor to was my Rex Ambassador on settings 6 & 5. Like you aggressive razors work great for me, although I love my vintage Gillette’s that are significantly milder.

The Gillette SuperSpeed Trio: The blue tip is the most mild The Flare tip is medium The RedTip is agressive The Gillette adjustable was also correspond to these three razors 123- represent the Blue Tip 457- represent the flare tip 789- Represent the red tip

Pitty about the Old Spice cream sent. I'm also not too fussy about the razor handle length as long as I can find a comfortable grip, although I do seem to have an issue with concave shaped handles so I avoid them. I would skip that extra pass, that would give me some razor bumps/burn even with a mild razor and a good slick lather, my skin is quite sensitive.

Something about the Old Spice Cream on its own, gives me fragrance burn. I mix it with other soaps to cut it, so it doesn't do it.
